Unreal. Walmart as a retail store is responsible to check the money before accepting it. I would be looking to press charges against them. File a civil suit against them.

That's a really shitty situation although I think it's pretty clear to see why Walmart wouldn't just swap the notes for you and I'd bet pretty much every other company would be the same. Hopefully you get some sort of resolution, though! I don't know what usually happens in the end with things like that.

You can file a civil suit against anyone. I've done it. Unfortunately, I have had to do it several times. A corporation like Walmart would more than likely not even show. He would get a default judgment.

I haven't been to a Wal-Mart in about 6 years and it is just liberating. I hate that place so much. Bougie LOL. I dunno. Anything I would buy there I can get at either the grocery store, hardware store, or Target for pretty similar prices. And honestly, if there is something that only Wal-Mart sells, well, it most likely isn't something I need bad enough to go there.

Legally you are pretty hosed unless Wal-Mart decides to be generous and reimburse you the money, which will probably require a ton of harassment on their part. The bank is supposed to confiscate the bills when you try to deposit them. So either your bank screwed up royally by not doing that, or that didn't happen. Unfortunately, the responsibility and ownership of the bills fall upon who currently possesses them. Wal-Mart does not have to reimburse you, and the government will not reimburse you either. You need to report the bills to the secret service, they will likely investigate into Wal-Mart to make sure that nobody there is intentionally trying to launder counterfeit bills (which probably is not the case, more likely someone else spent it there). Basically, you are out $200. But whatever you do, do NOT try to pass them off to someone else, because you could end up with major jail time.

When i went to my bank they had to confiscate them and send them to secret service. The bank gave me a note as to what had happened to bring to walmart. I called customer service and am on day 2 of waiting for them to call me back with an answer. The said if on the 4th business day i do not hear from anyone i am to call again and they will send me to someone higher up. Its not really about the money to me. Just kind of the point, i honestly do not think i am going to get any money back from walmart, however i will never give them another penny of my business.

They should have markers to spot fake bills at all registers. The manager that i dealt with probably gave me the worst customer service that i had ever received in my lifetime. I also think that its ridiculous that they are ok with handing out counterfeit bills.

The store had no clue, just like you. It sucks about you being out money, but no need to blame anyone but the person who made and circulated the bills.

The Walmart i was at did not have markers (the manager confirmend that) When i took the money to the bank, the markers worked right away when they used them. They clearly need to train their staff better, if their job is handling money. So yes, i will blame a place of business who treats their customers like trash, clearly does minimal training, and the place who will probably continue to accept fake money and give fake money to customers as well. It is my fault for shopping at Walmart, I useto work at Target and there was alot of training, every register had a marker, and if 1 store was alerted of fake money, every single store in that area was notified. The manager who i spoke to at Walmart genuinely did not care and she flat out said oh we just give it to the bank, its their problem.

Yep, that's pretty much Wal-Mart. I'm sorry you're out the money. That beyond sucks. I hate Wal-Mart. I get into it with them every time I leave. They want to check your receipt and look in your bags. I never once let them do it. I tell them in a not so nice way "NO!" and just keep walking. I'm not Emma!

That shows that don't use any measures to stop counterfeiting which is careless, and stupid.

They are out money when they get counterfeits, so theyre going to cover their asses. Its ing walmart, they have policies. This whole story just sounds like bs

How can they allow a fake bill to get through? There are measures in all retail to tell if the bill is counterfeit. Be it a pen, the watermark test, some have uv lights.

Last time I bought anything from Walmart my credit card info was stolen. I avoid them as much as possible. Only buy from them maybe once every couple years.

I've paid with $100 bills and Walmart employees still just look through the bill to check. Yeah they have the markers, but just because you are suppose to do something doesn't mean you will. Either way, why would anyone want to create this kind of story for attention or anti-walmart propaganda?

Whatever the case, it doesnt leave walmart liable. I've had them do the same to me, but in either case..doesnt mean they are out right trying to screw you. More absurd stories have been made up on here and around the internet.
