I'' having trouble swapping arms and boots. I try heating it up in near-boiling water so it's soft enough and pull, but I just can't get them to pop off. I feel the peg stretching and I'm worried I'll warp it and make it unusable.
What am I doing wrong?

Try only submerging only the bodypart you want to remove, not the whole figure. If you want to remove a boot, submerge the figure only up to the boots so only the boot gets heated instead of the peg inside. Same for arms, just submerge the arm up to the bicep.
Hold thicker parts in the water for maybe a minute to make sure the part is heated all the way to the core.

Is the problem that I submerge the peg, too? Should I submerge the part, but not the joint?

TBH I'm not sure what the problem is because I've never had this happen before, if you heat them long enough the parts just pop apart with a few yanks and twists. Here's a pic of what I mean, you only have to heat the part you want to yank off. Even if you dunk the whole figure, they should still be easy to pop apart. I dunno, just yank it!

Be deliberate and quick when taking off the part. Don't worry if the peg or limb warps as you can shape it back to its original form as it cools. Put it back on boiling water if it's not cooperating.

You can also use a blow dryer high(heat) as well.
Hope you were able to get the parts swapped.
