I used to collect Jakks so much when I was a child but since I was so young I didn't follow the series like I do now. I've always wanted to know is how up to date are they with attires and new wrestlers, I know Mattel is roughly a year but how long would it of been for Jakks to get a new star out. I've wondered this since I don't remember The Gymini's or Sylvester Terkay being in the company that long but they got figures.

Maybe it's because I was kid but i feel they put figs out faster than Mattel did when it came to updated attires and characters

They did have Hogan, Hall and Nash prototyped at WMX8 which was only 4-6 weeks post return and then released a few months after that.
Goldberg also was released in RA4 Summer of 03 after he returned in April.
Although with those guys they might have had some advance time, with NWO they probably could have started work on them in December 01 and with Goldberg maybe March 03
If I recall Ken Kennedy got a figure pretty quick too I think.

It was always no sooner than 6 months. I always traced it back to mostly 6 months when there was a new attire being debuted or looks, or whatever. The release dates for the waves Chicago mentioned above are a bit off by a couple of months, but similar principle in that they were faster than mattel. Then again, they did have superior head scanning devices and a small range of base bodies to use which facilitated it.

Then again, they did have superior head scanning devices and a small range of base bodies to use which facilitated it. I wasn't personally tracking them at the time so I wouldn't know for sure. The dates I provided are based off of someone else's notes during those years. Just from doing a quick search on this forum, I've found reports of AD23 Terkay/Burke being found in stores back in mid March 2007. Sightings of AD21 Jake/Jesse stretch as far back as late November 2006. I would imagine there were many more sightings from back then, but the big WF forum update wiped them out. I wish I knew exactly when all of these first appeared, but I was a freshman in college at the time and I was very much out of the loop with collecting. Would you happen to have a record of the Jakks release dates? It's not that I don't believe you, but I'm a bit skeptical of the average wait time being six months for most every new release. |

I think the cancelled Rtec 3 Mr Perfect was meant to be released in Summer 2002 after his return at that years rumble.

Pretty cool when you think about it. I can't agree enough! The fact that Mattel has ventured to make NXT figures is absolutely wonderful! Jakks seemed really weird to me as a kid. I swear sometimes they just made whoever whenever! I saw someone above mention Sylveter Terkay, someone who didn't deserve a figure period! Haha. I do believe he was released just a few months after his figure hit shelves. Jakks sometimes had no rhyme or reason to their figures. Kevin Thorn, Ariel, Colin Delanney, Gemini...they all were produced fairly quickly. But talent like Jazz, Terri, DLo Brown, Godfather and many others saw no release in TTL or RA after years on roster. Mattel has rarely missed a beat. I can really only site Aksana as one I really wanted but wasn't made. I can say that I wish Mattel would go ahead and make announcers already! Corey Graves, Tom Phillips, JoJo and a new Michael Cole are needed! |

Yeah those dates seem much more accurate man, I remember seeing Big Show/Nicky from AD 21 in November here in the UK, and we typically got the figures a month after US retail. And AD 23 was around Feb/March which was from what I remembered. I don't have concrete proof, I'm just going by memory. I used to remember all sorts of things from back then, when figures were released, when I bought certain figures, how much it cost me, where I got them..... But eventually as I got older and bought more, it became less special and more of a regular thing to buy them and I lost a bit of interest in the sense of the novelty of toy hunting wore off. And had too many to buy so my memory couldn't handle it. But I used to go by that for a lot of things for a good few years from 1999-2009 which were the glory days for me. Now it's all Amazon/online purchases, knowing everything in advance and buying every which figure that comes out (that I'm interested in), as opposed to having to save up and hope I found it in stores. So it was more of a special thing when I got them or saw them in retail. |

I just don't think Jakks has the same means as Mattel. If Jakks still had WWE liscense then I'm sure we'd be be getting more Cenas and no guys like Aries, Corbin or Owens when they were in NXT. Certainly no Hideo Itami haha! |

Mattel make TONS of Cenas, Triple H's, Undertakers, Jerichos, HBKs, Austins, Rocks..... The thing Mattel don't do as much as Jakks is make street clothes. Taking that out of the equation, Mattel are not dissimilar to Jakks. The diversity and breadth of individual guys that Mattel makes is about the same as Jakks. You must not remember how many guys Jakks made - Kid Kash, Matt Morgan, Colin Delaney, Funaki, Evan Bourne, Jake & Jesse, Super Crazy, Psicosis.... they constantly made figures of guys who may never had a chance to get a figure at that time. There are more than that too. Sure, they re-released a lot, but so do Mattel. And using the TNA line as an example is weak. The TNA line had such a small run due to retailers not ordering as much as the juggernaut of the WWE Mattel line. It's like comparing a puppy to a lion. Jakks with WWE was way better at getting product out than you give them credit. Poor parts choices or bodies aside, Jakks did fine with their license. Not as good as Mattel have in these last 7 years, sure, but they deserve more props. And not to mention Jakks did way better quality figures in the first 4 series than anything from Mattel in the same time frame in 2010. I remember the major complaints from people on this forum for the constant black or red attires, hardly any attire variation, really soft head sculpts looking hardly anything like the wrestlers, the PRICE POINT, the skinny forearms and how hard the elites were to find initially. TNA had the same Deluxe bodies, but their paint game was ON POINT. They pretty much never skipped on details (unlike they did for the WWE lines), the headsculpts were amazing (even if slightly too big), they were cheaper, they were easier to find..... |
