Does anyone have any info on why Mr. Wonderful and King Kong Bundy were tagging and taking on other heels? The matches were taped in late 86 or early 87 I believe. I watched one match where they went against Kamala and Sika on youtube and with the recent Prime time uploads on the network a I watched them face off against Bob Orton and Don Muraco. I'm sure there's no real answer here but I just find it really strange that they booked those matches. Were they testing the waters for babyface turns for both of them?

If I recall they tested an angle on Wrestling Challenge in late 86 with Bundy and Kamala in which Bundy would turn face and feud with Kamala going into WM 3. Nothing came of it though.
Here's the clip I'm talking about. It starts at around the 22 minute mark...

The Brain thanks for the info. I recently did some research and found the first ever card I went to in Sept 87. This just reminded me that Bundy took on One Man Gang on that card. Weird booking , but it would of been cool to see Kamala take on Bundy at Mania 3. I wonder where they would of went with his face turn.

holy cow dude, was just about to make a thread about matches you wanted to see but havent/didnt.
orndorff/bundy vs killer bees, muraco/orton & can-am connection were on my list. i found them vs bees & muraco/orton on youtube, but no can-am connection.
them vs muraco/orton was just part of tag team tourney. i never seen them vs kamala/sika tho, and I just looked at a few results pages and youtube and found nothing. if you got it, please post it.
here's the tourney:
Frank Tunney Sr. Memorial Tag Team Tournament - included Gorilla Monsoon, Johnny V, & Jimmy Hart on commentary:
Quarter-Finals: Prime Time Wrestling - 3/23/87: B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell defeated Kamala & Sika (w/ Kimchee) at 7:32 when Brunzell pinned Sika following a dropkick Quarter-Finals: International Wrestling Challenge: Rick Martel & Tom Zenk defeated Jerry Allen & Danny Spivey at 10:31 when Zenk pinned Allen with a crossbody Quarter-Finals: Prime Time Wrestling - 3/30/87: Demolition (w/ Johnny V) defeated Davey Boy Smith & the Dynamite Kid via disqualification at 4:50 Quarter-Finals: Prime Time Wrestling - 3/23/87: Paul Orndorff & King Kong Bundy defeated Don Muraco & Bob Orton Jr. (w/ Mr. Fuji) at 6:20 when Orndorff pinned Orton Semi Finals: Prime Time Wrestling - 3/23/87: Demolition (w/ Johnny V) defeated Rick Martel & Tom Zenk via count-out at 9:21 after Ax shoved Zenk into the ring-post Semi Finals: B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell defeated Paul Orndorff & King Kong Bundy at 4:22 when Blair pinned Orndorff Finals: Prime Time Wrestling - 4/13/87: B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell defeated Demolition (w/ Johnny V) at 6:16 when Blair pinned Ax due to pre-match stipulations, the Killer Bees earned an immediate tag team title shot WWF Tag Team Champions Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart (w/ Jimmy Hart & Danny Davis) defeated B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell when Bret pinned Blair after Danny Davis interfered and reversed Blair's small package attempt behind the referee's back; after the bout, the Bees attacked Davis and threw him out of the ring

If they turned Bundy face they would've probably just had him go against the whole Heenan family storyline like Patera did when he came back in 87. It definitely would've been interesting to see Bundy in the face role. I gotta imagine at one point it would've been face Bundy against heel Andre.

I could have sworn I saw a tag match of Studd & Bundy vs Akeem & The Big Boss Man. The ending of the match saw Studd & Bundy arguing & shoving each other because of a botched move on Studd's part. Would have been cool to see them go at it.

Would have been cool to see them go at it. i woulda known about this one. i just searched again even many different results sites and cant find any record of it. Studd did wrestle both in singles matches. never seen the bossman match tho. studd left in late 86 until 89. bundy left in early 88 until 1994. akeem was one man gang until sept 88.

WWF had a few matches around that time with heel v. heel tag teams. Maybe just not enough faces to go around? It was Bees and Bulldogs until mid April or so when Rougeaus came around and they were still pretty new. You had a few make shift face teams but they weren't anything special. Usually the matches with Nikolai and Sheik versus either Harts, Dream Team or Funk Brothers.
