I think with Orton and Mahal fighting for the WWE Championship at Backlash, The Main Event by all rights should be AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens for the United States Championship. These guys deserve to be in the main-event at Backlash, And why I say that?. Is because they were champions at the end of 2016. AJ was WWE Champion on SMACKDOWN while Kevin Owens was WWE Universal Champion on RAW. They are both talented in what they do. And if Mahal and Orton wrestle for the WWE Championship, there is no need for them to wrestle the Main Event. AJ and Owens should wrestle at Backlash in the Main Event.

No, the WWE title should always go last regardless of who's in the match. Even if Styles/Owens is obviously going to be the better match, they're still only wrestling for a mid-card title. However they could always do a swerve like at Backlash 2016 when they put the WWE title on first and the IC title on last.

That was only because of the debate and wasn't really a swerve since they announced it lol

IMO, The WWE Title match should ALWAYS close a PPV.
Except for all those times when CM Punk was champion and John Cena closed every PPV.... or when they wanted to give Roman Reigns the "retire The Undertaker" rub

Unless its the retirement of a legend, then the world title match should be the main event.

Nope. WWE Title is top title, thus so go last.

Yes they should. Jinder Mahal vs Randy Orton can be the main event of a smackdown. Not ppv.

If you thought Mahal competing for a world title was bad, not putting the champion in the main event just devalues it even more.

Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal has had better build.

None of the three top matches really seem worthy of main eventing. Of them, I'd maybe go with Nakamura vs Ziggler, just because it builds up Nakamura as a bigger star.

I'm a firm believer in that the WWE or Universal championships should always go on last.

The world title should always go on last. That goes for both brands.

Don't hinder Jinder!!
Jinder needs to go on last, so he wins the WWE Title, and it closes with him and his little midget friends standing over top of Orton with the WWE Title high in the air!

I'm usually of the belief that the World Title should close the show, but I think there are exceptions. This is one of them. The match is almost certainly going to be garbage, and I suspect Chicago is going to completely reject it.
Styles/Owens doesn't really have much gravitas behind it either, though.

99% of the time, I would say the WWE title should close the show. BUT, if they are serious about making the U.S. title meaningful again, I'd be OK with it. I just can't take Jinder seriously as a main eventer.
