So I've been dealing with the never-ending conundrum lately -- way too many figures and not enough space. I'm all for having a large collection, which I have (and I'm sure most on here do as well ), but I admit that it's gotten out of control at various points. What do you guys do to keep your collections (relatively) within control? I find this has helped me: 1. Trimming the fat when it comes to older series. To me the Mattel figs took a noticeable increase in quality around Elite 14-15. I had pretty much a complete set of Elites (and a lot of doubles MOC) but selectively get rid of some older elites when they don't do it for me anymore. 2. Sticking to Elites only (except for the occasional exceptional basic). 3. Trying to stick to definitive outfits/gimmicks per character. This may be the biggest one. CM Punk was one of my favorites, but do I need 20 Punk figures? Nah, I should be good with E16, E11, E29 and a basic or two. I absolutely love the new HOF Camo Edge, think it's one of Mattel's very best figures. So I think I'll keep that and maybe 2 other Edges instead of having 10 Edges. This is something I've struggled with, felt it was worth discussing. The completist in me likes to have EVERYTHING, but with this line it's not really possible or practical (I mean, there's got to be like 500 basics or so that have been made). Sometimes I'm surprised that I don't mind getting rid of older figures but always get the itch when new ones come out. Sometimes I think I've got to keep that in check, which isn't easy. What do you guys do about this?

You listed some good things to do. I would say sticking to definitive attires and focusing on collecting specific eras is the best way to keep it in check. I focus mainly on flashbacks with the occasional current roster pick up. That helps me limit myself and to slow the pace at which my collection grows.

I've cut collecting current guys out of my collection with the exception for Diva's. I only collect Flashbacks and divas anymore. I'm running out of space for my Flashback shelf though

I'm very very selective. I only buy elite flashbacks/legends from pre-2000 wwf/wcw only. I'll only have one ideal version of every wrestler I want for MOC and another alternative attire for my sons toy collection. My exception is macho man who I must have every one MOC and also surfer sting (if they ever make any). I've also sold figures here and there to update with something I like better.

1. Collect loose. 2. Dont buy everything
Boxes are cool but take up too much space I have a DM collection, some Daniel Bryans, SDCC Taker, and some doubles in case something breaks but couldnt do everything MOC or MIB. Thats too much cardboard to fret over.

The number of basics is probably more like 1,500. I had about 700 of these little bastards before I cleared house a couple years ago. Now I'm more selective. I defer to Elites over basics for duplicate attires where the old me got all attires and all figures. Seriously, basic 28 was the first set I bought every figure in and that continued until basic 45. I also got every Elite from 22 through 34. It was straining the budget and taking too much room. My collection is so much more modest these days.

I mostly only buy current stars now unless it's a flashback I really have fond memories of.

I'm in the same boat I started a few years back and said I only wanted old school guys. Then I wanted to have a few of the newer guys I liked then it was only 1 of each on the current roster before I knew it I was preordering full sets.I think I bought every elite released last year.I also bought a LOT of the basics.Im gonna have to start cutting down because I wanna display them I don't wanna just keep them moc in a box somewhere I wanna enjoy them.So if anyone has any tips on how to do this I'd love to hear them.

There's such a thing as "out of control?" But seriously I had this problem when I was collecting Jakks. Eventually I had no room and my collection was just going into boxes. It was what eventually lead me to quit collecting. This time around I'm not such a completionist when it comes to series. I collect mostly MOC, and it's only what I really want. It's never a full set of any series, just a fig or two (and sometimes three!) from a set. I do however keep some basics (and the Women's figs) MOC because of their value. That seems to be the only way to curtail the madness. But we all know the it can never be conquered or tamed. Just enjoy the ride, we're all on the same boat!

For me, is to set up a rules for what i really wants to collect
I only collect a line of wwf-wwe champions, so i dont buy guys that not been champions yet. And i got 1figs for a character rules, so i sell the former figures first if i want to update my collection. That saves me from spaces problem, that i got when i just blindly bought any figures i like.

I only buy the definitive figure of the wrestlers I like. No divas, managers or McMahons. Plus I collect a lot of basics (not a fan of the anorexic AJ Styles with the hairy chest and balloon head for $50).
As much as I enjoy wrestling figures, I live in an overpriced small NYC apartment. So I can't justify too many figures, or dedicate an entire room to a custom arena because my priorities need to stay in check for now.

Great post - I think most of us have been in a similar position at one time or another(!). I've been collecting Mattel since day 1... I used to buy all Elites and most Basics and Battlepacks. Then I trimmed if down to all Elites, plus Basics and Battlepacks only for Legends/Flashbacks. Then it got to a point when I thought I don't really need guys like Bo Dallas, Adam Rose and Mizdow in my collection - so started to trim/cut back on Elites too.
So currently I collect everything (Elite/Basic/Battlepack) for Flashbacks and Legends - plus a few Elites of main-event/current guys like Roman, Seth, Balor etc.

Too late! Outta control already. I collect MOC mainly elites from elite 12-present. Only missing a few here & there, package variants (Ambrose e25,sin cara with both hands up,flair closed robe & sting dm with laced boots.)

By being EXTREMELY selective with buying & sometimes I will also replace figures I have that aren't really doin it for me anymore with new ones that come out. The older figures I give to my nephews or to the Salvation Army or Goodwill so others can get enjoyment from them as I did.
