10 years ago the greatest tragedy in wrestling history happened when Chris Benoit killed his wife, son, and then himself over a weekends time.
⚫️I know this will likely be locked, but let's try to keep this civil with no "theories" involved. I would like to know your reaction to when you 1st heard when this happened.
I remember being 6 years old preparing for Raw and Mr. McMahons funeral. I was too young to really check the internet so when raw came on I was completely shocked to see the memorium for Chris Benoit on my screen. The opening with Vince in an empty arena still gives me chills to this day. Obviously details came out as the day went on and it went on to change the face of wwe as we know it.

I believe I was on vacation in Florida with my mom and younger sister when I heard. Im pretty sure I was glad I hadnt been a fan of wrestling since 2002. Didnt make me want to revisit the product. Didnt start watching again until the Daniel Bryan WMXXX stuff. Which could be ironic as theyre compared for being technical workers who both used the flying headbutt and crossface. Dont think Bryan has roid rage so fingers crossed nothing happens.

Just such a horrible, horrible crime and such a shame a little boy and his mother lost their lives in such a violent way.
As far as the RAW show goes, I mainly remember how really weird, William Regals speech was. It was like he knew something was not quite right.

Worst thing to ever happen to the WWE.
Luckily time has passed and time will continue passing.. But it's probably the deepest and darkest black eye pro wrestling ever had.
Those years following the murder were extremely hard.

WWE is right to disown him as much as possible.
I find it funny all his defenders would have the opposite reaction if a regular "man" had done it.

I remember being so devastated cause Benoit was one of my favorites... I can still watch his matches because I can separate the wrestler from the murderer.

I was 17 at the time and he was my 2nd favourite wrestler behind Kane, I legit started tearing up really put me on a downer that day...i never got round to seeing the tribute Raw as by the time I was going to watch it the truth had came out and there was like a statement at the start of the program by Vince then I think they just showed the previous episode or something like that.

I was a big benoit fan even got to see him wrestle live i think 2 times. I've been online reading wrestling rumors for years so at first I was shocked then I thought it was fake maybe then the real news came out and I just couldn't be a fan anymore. I don't care if he was a great wrestler none of that matters when you do horrible things like he did.

I remember I was at work at a pizza joint called Donato's. Was 18 at the time, had just graduated high school. I had to work late that night, which was weird (as I'm typing this, in remembering it was also my last night there), which I remember because when a coworker told me he had died, I was in a frantic rush to get out of there and didn't really get to have a nice goodbye to my coworkers.
I remember the initial theories of it being a carbon monoxide leak or something along those lines. I remember my mom meeting me at the door when I got home to break the news to me.
Damn tragedy. The only thing that I hope can come from it is the continued education and improved awareness and prevention of head trauma injuries.

I'm not defending Benoit at all but the mental illness caused it and the post mortem proved it. It's simply heartbreaking that a women and child lost their lives at the hands of the man they loved. I remember watching the talk show interviews on youtube and the hosts were being so rude to the wrestlers who were discussing the matter. It really did cast a dark cloud over wrestling.
If I ever watch a Benoit match I turn my head when he does the flying headbutt because each one of those moves slowly damaged his brain.

When are people going to understand and accept that there's just certain things we aren't permitted to discuss on this forum?
... This is one of those things.

Yes it was a terrible tragedy. And yes Chris's brain was equal to that of an 85 year old person with alzheimer's. So as much as I was a Benoit fan and wouldn't judge him or anyone who suffered from the brain damage he had I will be locking this because I am sure this won't end well.
