So I've been thinking lately about some what if's of wrestling history and one that came to me was what if Shawn Michaels didn't retire at Mania 26? What if Shawn wrestled someone else at Mania 26, who would've been his opponent instead of Taker? Would Shawn ever be WWE Champ again? Would he have faced The Rock at Mania 28 instead of Cena? Would he have faced Punk at some point in his long career? Would've he been the 1 in 20 and 1 or 21-1? Would he and HHH feud again during the Authority angle? Or HHH and HBK still be a PG DX together? Let me know what y'all think, I'd really like to hear what you guys think of this. (Oh what could've been)

If he hadn't retired at 26 he'd definitely still have been long retired by now.
I reckon we might have seen a singles feud with CM Punk, he certainly would have been better than Nash. Maybe he could have joined the Authority or feuded against the Authority.
I don't know, to be honest, the timing of his retirement was perfect.

It's such a shame that he and Rock missed each other by a year.

At the time it seemed like he was retiring somewhat early, but yea as said above, his timing could not have been more perfect. Selfishly I would have loved to see a SES Punk vs. Reborn Michaels type feud but thats about it. If he didn't retire in 2010 it probably would have only been another year or two. There was really nothing left for him to do when he called it quits.
On a side note as much as a dream match would have been between Michaels and Rock, I doubt it would have ever happened. Rock harbors ill will toward Shawn from his early 96-98 days, and from a "PG Era WWE" Standpoint, it makes more sense creatively to put them in two separate big marquee matches rather than one.

I will say thought that Shawn had a horrible final run as an active wrestler. From August to January he was involved in the worst ever version of DX and after the Rumble he became obsessed with The Undertaker and practically begged every week to face him.
Not a good way for HBK to go.

It's been rumored that Vince wanted to do an HBK vs "Hollywood" Rock bout back in 2003 when it was thought that Shawn was only back temporarily but Rocky shot it down due to the crap Shawn put him through years earlier. If it's true I doubt Rocky would want to work with him 10 years later either.

It was essentially perfect, tho. After a Mania classic with Taker, he knew he could end the streak. So much he put his career up. Then he lost.

Am I the only one who thought this thread was about him leaving in '98 due to injury? Either way I think a feud with the Rock in 98/99 or post retirement is something we missed out on. The only other person I could see him working with would be Punk at Wrestlemania 27.

Wish he had one more run with the World or WWE Championship, but for me he retired while he could still perform at an elite level, which is always good to be remembered by

Imagine if Shawn and Bret were on the same team at Summerslam against Nexus. Would've been epic.

Imagine if Shawn and Bret were on the same team at Summerslam against Nexus. Would've been epic. It was great for Bret to come back in 2010 and get some closure. That part I was all for. The part involving him actually wrestling in a Batman shirt and jorts, not so much. And I love Bret, haha!

It would've been great seeing him in his gear for 1 last time.
