So I was watching my Clash of the Champions dvd tonight with a few beers and I just love the reaction of the old school fans back then. They are so much more authentic and raw with their emotions compared to the fans in the audience nowadays. Its amazing how different they are. The fans back then didnt need to chant things like "this is awesome" or this person sucks and so and so. The audience was so emotionally involved in the matches that they didnt need to make an effort to chant stuff they just let their emotions take over and would go wild. Just go back and watch some of that old NWA stuff, the fans were crazy. I could see grannies in the front row gesturing and shouting just like some of the young kids, it was so fun to watch them compared to the fans of today. Ofcourse there are still many fans today that are great in the audience but they just dont compare to back then. I have to say I really enjoyed watching that dvd tonight and had to make a post about it.

I said this before but it stands true...The best time to be a fan was the 80s/90s. I miss those days

Wrestling was just fun back then, plain and simple.
PPVs every 2 weeks on the WWE Network with the same matches you see on Raw and Smackdown for weeks leading into the PPV just doesn't thrill the fans.

The current product is so over produced and unorganic and I hate to say it, but so are the fans. Most of the "shocked" reactions that the cameras love to capture at RAW and PPV's are so forced and done just for attention that it is pretty funny.

The atmosphere just used to be better. I don't watch the current product but I still love the old school footage

The "this is awesome" chant is getting very tiresome! Chants like this and the "you suck" chants really started in the attitude era(which I loved). Thing is today's fans know it's all a show, unlike the 80s I don't think anybody watches today under the impression that what they are watching isn't a performance.

Some really good points. People don't "believe" like they used too and the fans are now part of the show hence the reactions for the camera. I was at mania this year and the hardys coming out was the only reaction that felt real I can remember in recent times. I love the old product sooooooo much more than the current stuff, from the stars to the matches, angles to the old apter mags it was a golden time to watch. No over produced shows, with the same matches every week and much less TV to get through. Good times

To me the good old days were before wwf bought wcw. Since then it's been over produced crap for the most part.

storylines took months to culminate. By the time a quarterly PPV rolled around, you were scratching and clawing your way to see some heel get what he deserved from the fan favourite. You brought your heart and passion to the arena that's for sure.
I love watching the fans in these old videos for their reactions and their 80s sweaters!

A lot of what you're seeing is not just "old wrestling fans" but also Southern wrestling fans. Southern wrestling fans took this stuff VERY serious. Yes they knew it was fake but they treated it as real a life. Hell my papaw has been throw out of an arena for dumping a beer on Mr. Fuji's head.

The world has changed and innocence has been lost ladies and gentlemen. Even if people were into it like they used to be they'd be too afraid to cheer and go nuts because they'd be afraid of being judged. Ironic when in today's society all they preach is tolerance and treating people equal, but for the most part we know that's a facade.
