Does anyone know what the endgame was here? Was he just supposed to me a manager or eventually wrestle again or what? This whole thing confused me when I was younger. I know that Nash's injury kind of derailed the whole thing.

I would love to have seen his ring gear. Imagine his heart tights with the nWo logo sprayed on them.

All I remember is Booker singing a parody of his theme.

I remember being so excited that he was back, but didn't get my hopes up after his patchy performance as Commissioner Michaels.
I would have liked to see HBK's nWo transition into the Kliq being an on-air stable, but Scott's release, Nash's injury and HHH being super over as a singles guy at the time meant it would never happen.

Shawn says in his book that he was brought in simply to be a mouthpiece.

Shawn says in his book that he was brought in simply to be a mouthpiece. By the time he returned the WWE nWo was already on life support. Hall got fired and Hogan was back in the red and yellow. When Nash tore his quad it was the official nail in the coffin for that little experiment.

I think they were going to transition into a kliq reunion of sorts, they already had kicked out Booker at this point, and were teasing kicking out Show. It prob would have been Trips, HBK, Nash, and X-Pac, but then Nash tore his quad, X-Pac got released for doing drugs, and things just went to crapfor their plans.

Things did work out for the better though because the fake DX reunion, HHH attacking Shawn and then their match at Summerslam couldn't have been anymore perfect. I can't picture how Shawn would've returned to the ring with the Kliq involved.

But wasn't he planned to return as far back as late 2000 but his personal life kept getting in the way?

They had plans for him, but I don't know if an actual ring return was part of it. I just know that he showed up for a Raw and was wasted. The next night he drove to wherever SmackDown was, expecting to be used in some way. When he got there, Vince told him he was being sent home because of his drugged up state, and that even Hunter said he was really bad the night before. On his way out Shawn ran into Hunter and cussed him out for turning on him, and they didn't talk again for nearly 2 years.

At King of The Ring that year, they had a small tease of this when Triple H ran into the nWo backstage. Then Nash tore his quad just a week or two later. I wonder if the plan was for Triple H to eventually join them, it would have been cool. Or they could have went the other direction and Triple H could have rejected the nWo's help and feuded with them. I think either one would have been entertaining, but think I would have enjoyed him joining more.

When he returned from that first quad tear earlier in the year everybody loved him because they were excited to see him back in action. He was always a better heel though so I'm not sure the direction they were going in when they teased that nWo angle.

I don't think he would have worked out there

I saw this as a desperate ploy to make him relevant again. WWE just slapped him in there to attach him to the big angle at the time.

I saw them eventually transitioning into an on-air "Kliq" that would dominate Raw. HHH as the world champ, X-PAC as the lackey and his occasional tag partner, Nash as the muscle and HBK as the mouthpiece.
Problem is, what happens to Evolution? Either they never become a group, or HHH turns his back on the Kliq to form Evolution. I think that would have been really cool. HHH hates sharing the spotlight so he kicks the Kliq to he curb in favor of a younger group that he can lead. Evolution puts X-PAC on injured reserve and HHH beats Nash at the Royal Rumble and No Way Out. This all leads to HBK's big comeback match at WM19 where HBK goes over and wins the world title. He drops is back to HHH a month later, and Evolution can move to other opponents.
In this scenario Scott Steiner isn't sacrificed so soon after his debut and Booker's credibility isn't killed by feuding with HHH.

It was just an excuse to get Michaels back on WWE TV while hanging out with his friends. I believe they were suppose to recruit Triple H but he was going to decline. This would have lead to bad blood between them. I assume they would have eventually had Triple H vs Nash. But as we know, it went to s**ts almost right away.
Worked out great though cause Triple H vs HBK at SummerSlam that year was one of the greatest matches of all time. And it lead to a fantastic feud. Had Nash not been injured, HBK may never have returned to the ring.

I'm pretty confident that he still would have returned to the ring at some point even if Nash never got hurt.
