Good Grief Taker in 2001 was bit of a selfish dick. Burying DDP For simply wanting to script their match, Having godawful matches....

I hated his gimmick during 2000 up to 2003. That was honestly the worst thing to happen to Taker since Summerslam '94. I can already sense the biker taker fanboys railing up.

I liked ABA Undertaker. I have no idea how he felt about it but 3 1/2 years of something different (in between 9 years as the Deadman and 13 years as the Deadman) was kind of a nice change of pace for a while.

I liked Taker in 01. The BOD run was really cool, the Taker/DDP feud was meh but then Taker turned Heel at the end of the year to start off the Big Evil run which was also great IMO.
The American Badass/Big Evil era was a nice change of pace and the guy sounded authentic when he talked. He was THE vet.

The Undertaker was the most loyal superstar in the WWE during the Monday Night War so it's understandable he wouldn't want to make anyone from WCW look strong, not saying it was right if he was being a selfish dick, but I get where it was coming from.

Idk if DDP's burial was so much Taker being a dick or Vince trying to book every WCW star possible into the ground.

Undertaker totally dicked over DDP. Yes DDP didn't follow the unwritten rules of wrestling and adhere to all things Taker. Dallas took a scripted match to Taker and Taker pissed all over it. You can say Dallas should have just done things Takers way but at the same time Taker should have been more professional about it instead of burying Dallas.

Undertaker is almost untouchable in terms of criticism, but man he was more petty than most people realize.
DDP should have never been a heel though, if we're being real.

There were VERY few things I liked about ABA Taker. I hated how he made the WCW guys look terrible. Though, to be fair, the entire booking of the Invasion was garbage. Why would you take wildly popular, great babyface DDP and make him a creepy stalker?

I enjoyed the ABA gimmick, but man did he suck in 2001. His in-ring work was sloppy as hell (his in-ring work in 2000 was pretty solid, but that could have been more to do with him working with Angle and Benoit that year). I can't remember a single match that I'd say was a classic, or even above average besides that tag match at Backlash (I think Taker/HHH at WM17 is overrated).
Luckily he took off the extra weight by 2002, changed his gimmick to Big Evil, and picked up his in-ring workfare.

I also think the story about it being over DDP scripting the match is petty bullcrapif true.

While I enjoyed ABA Taker from 2000-2003 it started to get Stale quickly. I think he should have been turned heel after WM17 and himself and HHH should have been the 2 man Power Trip. The Brothers of Destruction schtick is something I was never a fan of.
I will say this though....his heel turn after SS2001 shoced the sh*t outta me(its right up there for most surprising turns) and HIAC vs Lesnar was absolutely incredible.

I hated the ABA gimmick but in 2000 he still had some traits of the old Undertaker. I'm probably in the minority but I hated the keep rollin song and revealing that he had a wife felt wrong in so many levels. People blasted his ring work during the Ministry era but 2001 was much worse. I will Say that what really saved him in 2001 was the Brothers of Destruction. They had a great run together and was a nice break for them feuding.

I preferred the Biker gimmick as opposed to the Dean Man. But good god, he was stale. Least until his heel turn. Then he was at his best IMO.
I was one of the few that LOVED DDP being the Stalker. I never saw it coming and I was excited to see DDP get such a cool debut. But in retrospect, he shouldn't have started off with Undertaker. Should have been someone a lil lower on the card. Once Taker wasn't a fan, there wasn't much of a chance for DDP in the WWE.
There was a story that DDP told Triple H how he had a script to give Taker. Triple H warned DDP not to give it to him cause it wouldn't go over well. DDP insisted Taker would be fine with it and did anyway. From that moment on, DDP was the "Dead Man Walking".

If I worked for a company that told me no one would ever buy a ticket to see me wrestle then I became a legend in the company that really mattered, I would have buried WCW too.

It didn't suck. It was good to some more than the Deadman gimmick. I prefer bells, hat and coat Taker above ABA.
He stuff in 2000 was fun. 2001 lacked but his heel turn was extremely fresh and he was a lot of fun to watch during that. He had that classic with Brock at HIAC. 2003 was basically a build to him returning as the Deadman.
Hat and coat taker > any other version IMO

The dead man gimmick wouldn't have worked in the Ruthless Aggression era. Hell, it was kind of cheesy in the Attitude Era in 1999 when you look back at some of the stuff he was doing as the Satan Undertaker persona.
His May 2000 - November 2003 gimmick of being an American Bad Ass suited him perfectly for the era of what was the WWE at the time.

I like how versatile the Undertaker proved to be, all of the different looks and character tweaks.
Ironically the last 10 plus years of his career were the most stagnant he ever got. He would never change anything up again. MMA Deadman for years.
