Was Jim Powers a big deal in WCW?
I was never a WCW fan but are currently watching through episodes of nitro when the NWO was formed.
They announced on the episode after BATB that Ric Flair would face Jim Powers for the U.S. title later in the show.
Jimmy was one of my favourite jobbers in the WWF and loved him in the young stallions with Roma but was wondering if he got a bit of a push in WCW around this time? Facing Flair for the title seemed like a big step for him

No, he was pretty much on the lower card like in WWF. In one of the WWE Flair documentaries they said (during his 1980s run, though) he would face lower card guys to show that he could have a good match with anyone-guys who really shouldn't be in the ring with him. Powers, as far as stardom goes, fits that category. At best, he got a super small push with Teddy Long as his manager in a "stable" of lower card guys who needed direction.

He had the same role in WCW that he had in the WWF.

I think Jimmy Powers had a better role in WCW than he did in the WWE. Jim actually got wins in WCW, and had a manager, and was frequently used on WCW Saturday Night. Plus he was gassed to the gills during his WCW days.
I never understood why the WWE jobbed out Jim Powers like they did. The Young Stallions get a win at Survivor Series 87, had tag title shots with the Hart Foundation, and were like seen as a pretty big deal. Then it seemed when the Rockers came in, they split up the Stallions and jobbed both Roma and Powers out in singles action.
Paul was lucky to get with Hercules though and do the Power & Glory thing, but the WWE never had anything for Jim Powers.

Maybe they were just too similar to the Rockers, a pretty boy tag team with 2 smaller guys which wasnt in style at the time.

He wasn't as big a jobber in wcw as he was in wwe. In wcw he had a much bigger physique.

Funny thing is I remember Powers in the WWF and I know he was in WCW and I was more of a WCW fan than WWE, but I don't recall one match of his in WCW.

Jim had a great look and was a good wrestler for the time. I think if you took him and put him in 2017 he'd be one of the best.
