I haven't seen any of the matches or anything, but I don't like the idea of rerecording commentary. JR is the kind of guy who was/is so good because of his genuine excitement and reaction to stuff when it's happening live. Not everything should be perfect on commentary because not everything is perfect as its happening live. That'd debatable. As a NWA/WCW fan JR was insufferable, always getting tag team member names wrong. I can't count the many times he mixed up "The Hawk" and "The Animal". He's part and parcel of the Attitude Era with Lawler so I guess that's where everyone fondly remembers him through rose-coloured glasses. But all I remember is "BY GAWD BY GAWD STONE COLD STONE COLD STONE COLD" ahh shut up already JR. I'll take that over the robotic puppets they have on commentary now (Graves, Mauro, and Nigel aside of course.)

After watching the first round, I wish they had tried it again. Because man the commentary was brutal. JR was sleepwalking, and Lita was downright awful.

I'm sure it was nothing major. That sort of thing happens with taped shows. I have some questions though. First, wasn't Madusa supposed to be on commentary too? She would have been better than Lita. And why did they drop four episodes at one time? It should have been a weekly deal after NXT like CWC was. And like CWC, it should have had its own set. They've also seemed to downplayed the country representation. While it's mentioned, keeping the flags as part of the video screens would have been nice. This one really isn't feeling as special. Unfortunately, I have a feeling those issues are a part of WWE's recent cost cutting measures. It's a shame, but I hope we'll still get some good work out of it. I'm excited to see Kairi Sane drop some bos!

Knowing what I know about the tournament...Im not real excited about this thing. They really should have done this live so people would be "forced" to tune in. Knowing the gals I was pulling for were mostly gone after the first round. I couldnt care less if I see this or not. Ummmmm, isn't that more your fault than theirs.......

So, next week will be Round 2, and the week after will be the finals. Guess they wanted people to be able to binge it instead of stretching it out for two months.

I have to honestly say, that after watching the Mae Young Classic shows so far, that Jim Ross and Lita do not belong near a commentators booth.
Mauro Ranallo, Corey Graves and Madusa would have been better to call the matches.
Jim Ross sounded like he didn't give a crap about the show, or the moves, or the ladies. Lita had no clue half the time in what she was talking about. Luckily I ended up eventually just drowning out what they were saying and listened to the crowd instead.
Jim Ross though does not belong on WWE TV in the year 2017.

They edited off her interview segments? So that's what Mike Johnson meant when he wrote on his site, "the case of the missing Madusa".

His NWA work was phenomenal overall; maybe even better than his WWF stuff because he was able to focus more on what was happening in the match instead of selling storylines and stuff. He would always screw up names no matter when he was announcing, though. That never bothered me about him. spot on - jr was killing it in the uwf and then even moreso in nwa. it's that run in wcw that put his name on the map as best in the business and made his switch to wwf that much easier when he was ready to jump.

Based on what I've seen they should've just deleted it rather than redo it.

Speaking of JR mispronouncing names, 'Dan Sev-REN' always gets me.
