Seeing the protos for E53 KO got me thinking about those old 1/500 belts Jake did. KO never wears his belts, always throws em over his shoulder or carries them. But even in the Jakks days putting a belt on someone's shoulder was awkward because the plastic wanted to stay straight, and that's one thing that hasn't changed since Mattel took over.
I'd love to see some belts with leather or pleather or simulated leather straps sometime. Especially since Mattel's VAC belts blow Jakks out of the water. I think it would be a good addition to an exclusive figure but do you guys think?

Man someone could make some money if they just took a ton of Mattel belts and offered up these belts on custom pleather straps =P

It's a good idea in my opinion but I wouldn't hold my breath for Mattel to make real leather belts anytime soon, the cost of producing them would probably be outrageous in the long run. We'd have better luck hoping for the simulated leather belts you mentioned but even then it'd cost more to make them than Mattel may be willing to spend. Not to mention that would probably drive the retail prices of the figures even higher.

Or a DM style figure. Nothing too fancy attire wise

Funny you mention retail cost... if we compare the Elite series to the new Superstar Doll series - same price point, but the dolls come with alot more (they even have hair!), I would argue the price on the elites is a little higher for what we are getting. (Some exclusions like the recent Shane and Braun that come with a decent sized accessory) Realistically, could Mattel snatch up some pleather and use their existing plastic plates on them and still make some profit? Probably so, I have seen pleather prices as low as $6.50 per yard, and I am sure Mattel can get an even better deal. In the long run, despite them being collectors items, kids still snatch up the elite series, and plastic just holds up better. Now if they would release a pack of just the belts...

I wonder if a third party company could make premium titles, like Jada of WCT?
I'm sure they could draw a lot of dough if they licensed WCW, NWA, and ECW titles outside of what Mattel currently offers, like imagine series 1 is the NWA world title, WCW US title, WWE New Day strap Tag title. and WWE yellow strap IC, like $4 or $5 a piece, die cast and pleather.

Didn't they already give us leather/metal belts in the basic line with the 1/1000 titles? So while I doubt it will happen I do think it could be done.

Trouble with the Jakks and Mattel (see below) leather belts were that the straps were absolutely massive so unless the sizes are done correctly, it would look like every belt was made for Big Show. WF had a member on here called Nelly The Belt Guy who used to do phenomenal work, I'm surprised nobody followed his footsteps and sold leather strapped Mattel belts tbh.

I save those clear bands that they use in the packaging use the smaller ones to hold the belts in position when displaying them over the shoulder.

The best title ever made is the Toybiz NWA title. I love the materials and overall design. Like the plastic that was used is more durable and it lays perfectly across shoulders.

As long as it doesn't have Velcro on it. Great idea. But I hate Velcro on titles.

Hey everyone, haven't posted here in a very long time. I was inspired by Nelly quite a while ago to start making leather belts. I think I shared a few of them years ago, but I never stopped making them. I saw this thread and thought I might show off what I've done to those who haven't seen them, which is probably most of you lol. Some Mattel, some Jakks. All on real leather. Hand painted where Mattel or Jakks didn't apply paint, like the black on the ECW Championship. Mixed and matched a couple of plates on the X division belt. I might post more detailed pics on the custom accessories board later, along with some of my other custom stuff. That board needs more attention. Leather belts are the shit.

Those are stunning. I'm loving the tips and the stitching on Big Gold.

Here are some of the figures where I've used the clear bands on the belts. Some are less noticeable than others

No way are we getting faux leather for the belts.

I bought a huge roll of leather 8 years ago and till this day the second I get a figure with a title I take the plates out of the rubber strap and place them on the leather strap. makes the titles look much nicer.

I don't think this will happen. Just based on costs.

I would love to see Mattel do some of those 1/500 diecast belts Jakks did... Those were awesome. But I thought I'd share what I posted in the fix up thread yesterday... I put all the Mattel belts I get on leather straps simply because they look better around the waist and it drapes over the shoulders, like you mentioned.

What do you guys use to close the belts? Velcro?
