Unless it's a figure that is well known to have common paint flaws or is nearly impossible to find, I don't mind ordering online. I check the Target down the street from my office once a week or so, but that's more to get some fresh air and be out of the office for a few minutes. Even with the store exclusive figures, I haven't had any trouble seeing all the figures from a wave. Of course I'm in a semi-major metro area with plenty of Targets and WalMarts, so there may be less competition around here than more suburban/rural areas that may only have one or two stores within driving distance.

If it's a figure that makes sense to me, finding it in stores is the coolest feeling ever. When I finally found the Hart Foundation, I instantly turned into my inner 9 year old who'd never seen the LJN figures in retail. Victory for me.
My kid not playing with his figures anymore kills it for me.

It's been a long while since I've gone out "hunting." If I am out at walmart or target I tend to gravitate towards the toy section, however I don't really consider that hunting. I mainly buy off Amazon due to it being easier with my work schedule (6 days a week at times). If I do go out hunting I'm not really looking for a specific figure so I don't give my hopes up when I don't find a figure i really want.

I want very few figures these days. Therefore, I rarely have to hunt anymore.
During the peak of my collecting days I used to get real frustrated when the best figures from any given set were missing on shelves. This was during the Jakks days. I always ended up finding every figure I wanted, but the chase was brutal sometimes especially when Jeff Hardy signed back with the WWE in 2006.
Mattel for the most part is pretty good in terms of distribution and availability. There have been peaks and valleys though such as the great Elite drought of 2016 following Elite 41. I'd say Walmart is the worst in terms of trying to find what you want, but then I think about Target and TRU and honestly they aren't much better.

No But hunting frustration has led to me hunting less. I went a long time not buying anything, so now whenever I hunt there's usually more than one thing I'm looking for. That makes it a little better for me I feel.

I like hunting , but in canada its not easy, sometimes is easier on amazon , ebay or ringside... Im sure that usa residents dont have the patience to hunt in canada, we are like a year behind, and half of the series are skipped.

I'm a retail only guy when it comes to this hobby. I've gotten such great deals ($8 elites at Target, $7 elites at WalMart) that I can't bring myself to spend the 20+ online for something that I can eventually find in stores. If I can't or never find someone in stores, I just put that money towards something that I DO have to order online like Code Red, Vinegar, or Redemption Blu-Rays. Were these recent deals? Target was back when elite 46 hit. The Walmart thing is still happening but not at all of them. One of the Walmart's near me put all elites on Clearance at $7. They are still ringing up at $7 as of yesterday. They had random elites from 48-50 and full sets of 51.

I can definitely sympathise with what the OP is saying. I think a lot comes down to where you're based as well. I don't even have a Smyths near me so I'm used to not seeing figures I want in stores, which is frustrating.
It can make me question whether I even want a certain figure but I don't think it's ever put me off enough to not get it in the end.

Only with the store exclusives but I have learned to be very patient with waiting for them to hit my area and I don't want to waste. a lot of gas and time looking for them. I haven't had a problem finding what I need eventually.

I wouldn't know considering my area has skipped the past 5 waves. Alabama doesn't mean all to the distribution ers. THIS ! What part of Bama are you from ?

I get annoyed. I get frustrated. I get impatient. Sometimes, I get angry. But it is what it is, I suppose. All part of the game.

I normally enjoy collecting figures that I have missed in the past, but I have lost interest in hunting a legends eddie guerrero as it is impossible to find, especially at a good price. And that was one of the biggest wants on my list

Mattel should dedicate some actual resources and getting good distribution. Basically I think they should be like Pepsi and coke and have a vendor stock there own product. Then they could also pull non selling crap a lot easier.

It all depends, the hunt is still a huge thrill even though 90% of my figure purchases are online (Ringside, Amazon, and eBay).

I have given up on figures I like because the hunt just get annoying. If everything was released at Ringside I would be happy.

Mattel can't force stores to stock shelves faster.
