Apparently from what I seen on Facebook from Wolfie D, is that Lance Russell has passed away.
For those who may not be familiar with Lance, he did commentary for the famous Andy Kaufman vs. Jerry Lawler match, and was even in Beyond The Mat movie as the ring announcer for that scene.
Lance also worked for WCW at times in the late 80s/early 90s for syndication.
He was 91 years old. RIP Lance Russell!

Damn. Very sad news. CWA/USWA would air every Saturday at noon in Louisville. Very underrated announcer.

He had one of the smoothest voices in wrestling. And I don't think any wrestler ever had a bad thing to say about him.
Rest peacefully, Mr. Russell.

Huge loss for the wrestling world. Definitely one of the best announcers.

Devastated to read of this. As some here know, i grew up in Evansville Indiana, which was CWA/USWA's weekly Wednesday stop for decades. Lance Russell was THE voice of pro wrestling for me and many from my era and area. Even after i got cable and got to hear greats like Jim Ross ,Gordon Solie, Bob Caudle, Bill Mercer and ,Tony Schiavone, Lance Russell was my personal measuring stick they each had to conpete with. The duo of Lance Russell and Dave Brown still rank as one of my favorite 3 duos of all time. Thank you for being one of the voices of my youth Mr Russell. Rest easy "bananna nose". Also my condolences to his family on the passing of his daughter ,which occured on the same day.

I always felt that Lance Russell and Bob Caudle were two of the most underrated commentators of the wrestling world. People are so quick to praise Jim Ross and Gordon Solie, but I felt Solie to be boring and bland, and I feel that Jim Ross messed up more than most. Caudle and Russell were always on, and never seemed to mess up.

Lance Russell, 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. Mr. Russell is best known as the Voice of Memphis Wrestling following his 50 plus year career in the industry. He will also be remembered as an inventive and resourceful television executive and a highly rated disc jockey for WHBQ radio.
He was preceeded in death by his much loved wife of 67 years, Audrey and his daughter, Valerie Houston. Mr. Russell is survived by his two sons, William Lance Russell and his wife Debbie, Shane Russell and his wife Debra, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and his faithful dog and best friend Buddy. He had a lifelong passion for golf and the inexplicable ability to frighten fish away, which never dampened his attempts to catch them.
A public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis TN 38119, to give Lance one last opportunity to say “Yello Everybody!” In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.
This must be one of the nicest obituaries I've ever read. Probably goes to show what a nice guy he was.

Lance Russell was before my time, but I'm very aware of all his contributions to the business over his lengthy career. Respect. Rest in peace.
Pretty sure Jerry Lawler wanted him to be the one to induct him into the Hall of Fame back in 2007. They went with William Shatner who had that one confrontation with Lawler on Raw back in the day. I always felt like WWE pulled a dick move here. If Russell was instrumental to his career they should have respected Lawler's choice instead of just trying to grab a celebrity just to prove "look who we got!" It'd be like Lawrence Taylor inducting Bam Bam Bigelow.

Before I could even walk I was watching weekly Memphis wrestling on TV and as I got older the highlight of my entire week was going to the live show on Saturday night in my hometown. Lance and Dave were the voices of my childhood, and CWA/USWA was my preferred wrestling for many years. I didn't become a hardcore WWF fan until Raw began and Lawler came up North.

Always professional and on point during his Crockett and WCW years and vastly unacknowledged for his work in Smoky Mountain. A true gem of a bygone era. To keep this on topic,i always delighted in his brief duo with the late Lance Russell on sone of the NWA's syndicated programs.
