When this was announced, I was excited and all for it. Anything that gave the fed more exposure and made it easier for people (and me) to watch was a good thing.
(Who actually has PopTv? For reals, who?)
But that excitement has died down a lot because in typical TNA/Impact/GFW/Your Mom! fashion, its promises and advertisements have not come to bear.
The original press release...
anthemse.com/2017/10/12/impact-wrestling-channel-launches-on-pluto-tv/
"Programming for the channel will include the flagship IMPACT! show..."
Where is this? The channel has been running shows from March of this year, but this company has been through so much change since then that even this fairly recent show does not reflect the current product.
"Xplosion will premiere Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET and run weekly on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET."
I tuned in yesterday. Wasn't on or there. And the random times I have popped in to see if its on or replays, still not there.
"... pay-per-view events on a second window..."
If this has happened, they sure as hell didn't advertise it. Which is stupid and only hurts them.
I still stand by the idea that this Pluto Tv channel is good for them. But Impact is missing a huge opportunity by not having any of the current product showing.
With most of the biggest stars in wrestling having walked through the promotion at some point or other, people flipping through and see AJ Styles, Sting, The Hardy Boys, will cause people to stop and watch. Especially since the channel only really shows main events and ladder matches. It is fun to watch, nostalgia plus excitement.
But by not showing any of the current product it can only hurt and in the long run decrease possible viewers. If one of these viewers gets interested from watching on Pluto, turns to Pop and sees its nothing like what he originally saw, that is going to turn the viewer off. To go from watching Styles and Sting to nobodies the general tv audience does not know.
Impact currently has a platform that everyone with some kind of wifi/internet connected device (phone, tv, computer, roku) can easily access.
Full use of its potential can only help. Put some Pluto exclusive events on there. Even if its a few weeks behind, put the "flagship show" at
regularly scheduled times so people can actually watch the product.
