I know I have seen people talk about using the IKEA Detolf cabinets for their collection. Anyone have pics or can give and estimate on how many figures comfortably fit per cabinet? Trying to estimate on if this is a good option for me.
Thanks, Josh

Hi, Just type Ikea Detolf into Google Images and you should see enough to make your own mind up. I have one and it’s fine, but I’m thinking of getting lighting for it.

mcfclee, what do you use for those tiered display stands? 3 level spice racks. I got them in Kmart [Australia], but I know you can get them on amazon if you’re in America quite cheap. Just search spice rack with shelf or tier and you’ll find em.

I was wondering about the same thing myself. I ended up getting the IKEA shelf last Friday for $130 shipped. The shipping prior to that was killer man. I like the spice rack idea, only thing that sucks is what if a figure toppled over? Wish some company would invite a rack with pegs, the Mattel ones are sold out

The detolf shelves look great in pics but i HIGHLY recommend you go to an IKEA store if possible and look at them in person. I drove 4hrs with the soul intention to buy 4-5 of these for my collection. I left with a new spatula. Seeing them in person I just wasnt impressed. They're nice but the display didnt seem very sturdy (maybe it was just the display) but my main problem is they're tiny. I think they're only like 4 1/2-5 feet tall. Ive seen some people here build risers for them so they were raised up. That could be an option if you wanted. Me personally though, they just werent for me.

I tend to use my wwe stands for any that are not sturdy and that helps.

If anyone is interested IKEA also sell this cabinet: m.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/art/80363172/It's a bit more expensive than a Detolf, but the Fabrikor is completely sealed (which keeps dust off the figures), can hold a few more figures and the blue version looks really cool with old school collections.

You may want to google "Detolf dual mod". It's a pretty easy way to double the size of the cabinet. Also google "Detolf dust proof". Also the light mod by plastique freak is fantastic. Add a 2x1 Kallax as a raiser and you have a really nice cabinet. In general people have modded the hell out of the Detolf cabinet and it's well worth a search/look. I believe at the tf-board there is a 150+ pages long thread about Detolf. It's really an great piece if you dare to mod it.

Someone should really make some nice racks (no pun intended), they would really sell. Maybe ringside could make a new display rack, that holds more figures than the previous but at a cheaper price.

Does anyone have a detolf with something other than spice racks raising their figures?

They are short. 5ft 3.5 in to be exact.so to get the bottom shelf off the floor I used another ikea shelf system to elevate them.

I own 3...an I got to say, they are ok, not great. I was obssessed with them once but I find, they are very restrictive in terms of space. Everything feels it has to be squished in because it is about 15 inches wide. It's also about 16 inches per shelf......and if I have my NECA 1/4 scale, they will not fit. There is also a recommend weight of ONLY 8 pounds per shelf which is ridiculous imo.
I think it is a waist of money if you have a large collection of figures. I use it for my Megazords, and essentially it can fit only 1-2 Megazords per shelf....if I am lucky 2 can fit. Then the bigger Ultra COmbined megazords do not fit due to their combined height.
So I really do not recommend it. But it is up to you. Their are some build issues as sometimes VERY rare, glass shatters or pieces are missing.
It comes down to look and if you think 60 dollars is worth 16 inches of shelf space and 4 shelves. I think getting a wooden shelf and putting lights in them are a better way to go and value.Plus you can get longer shelves.
