I came across my old Hasbro figures while over my parents' over the holidays. I've been toying with the idea of picking up some of the figures I'm missing, but was surprised to see the prices for some of the later series. After looking around online, it seems like some figures are readily available in the $5-10 range (pink Brutus, Jake the Snake, Rockers, etc.), but after that things dry up pretty quickly. Is there that big of a discrepancy in the production numbers, or is there just a limited supply on the market?
I'm planning on buying loose figures that are in fairly decent display condition, but don't necessarily have to be mint. Right now I have 40 figures from my childhood collection, including a few of the rarer figures like Adam Bomb and Billy Gunn. Any threads that I should read up on or advice on where to start? Thanks!

Just keep collecting as many as you want & desire to have. The WWF Vintage Hasbro figures in the packaging can be a steep price but the loose Hasbro figures are usually a lot cheaper. Sometimes at Comic Conventions that wrestlers are appearing at have vendors that sell retro WWF/E memorabilia. I found some really retro Undertaker & Ultimate Warrior Hasbro figures from the early 1990's.

Depends if you want loose or carded, but yeah: collecting ain't cheap.
Loose I'd suggest: buy figure lots. Sure, you'll end up with a gazillion Roberts', Valentines, Neidharts and Bushwackers (from the tag series) but it's the cheapest way to get Rhodes or purple trunks Warrior. Just resell your duplicates to fund guys like black/silver HBK, Koko with Frankie, any Razor with chains, ...

If you are just collecting loose figures, that shouldn't get too expensive - compared to MOC collecting. Most of the figures can be found for under $20 (American) on eBay. But their are some that will go for more; Dusty Rhodes, Ultimate Warrior (Purple Trunks), Koko B. Ware (but only if it comes with his bird Frankie), the Legion of Doom, the Green Card Series Figures (Adam Bomb, Evil Crush, Yokozuna - White Trunks, the Smoking Gunns, Ludvig Borga, and the 123 Kid), Razor Ramon (but only if it comes with his gold chain accessory), Series 8 Undertaker (if it comes with his cloak). I have only seen the Green Card series figures go for very high prices (some over $100 American). But most you can get for very cheap, especially if you are not too concerned with mint condition. If you are patient, and don't rush to purchase all of them quickly, you can find some for very cheap. A few years back when I started re-collecting figures, I purchase a Rockers Shawn Michaels (to replace my broken one) for one cent (plus about $2 for shipping). Most of the loose figures that I have purchased from eBay have been for under $10 (American). Those include; Series 4 Bret Hart, the Texas Tornado, Series 9 Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Series 10 Fatu, Rocker Shawn Michaels, among others. Buying lots can also help. Good luck!

Thanks for all of the info. Is it safe to say finding figures complete with raises the price a good bit? I was looking through my figures and it looks like I still have accessories for almost all of my figures - Razor with chains, Duggan w/ 2X4, Jake with Damian, and Berserker with his robe, and both Big Boss Man figures with the night stick. Looks like the Mountie's taser is the only accessory missing.
I'll keep an eye out for lots, and will also hit up some of the flea markets in the area this summer. It was fun pulling out all the old figures, since I don't think I had opened the box since at least the late 90's.
I didn't realize how rare the green card series was. I was really excited for the series, but only ever found Adam Bomb and Billy in stores. But I just figured that was bad luck more than anything.

enjoy it but be warned once you start its VERY addictive! lol you start out want one or 2, then 10, then all, then accessories, then better quality versions, then MOC and on and on
never regretted it though

Save lots of money and if you get an offer that sounds to good to be true, then just go for it as you will regret it in the long run if you don't purchase it! Always pay via Paypal Good and Services so you are covered in case the deal was 'too good to be true'

I see what people are saying about this being addictive! Just wanted to share a quick update - I stopped in a local vintage toy store to see if they had any Hasbros. I paid $25 for everything in the photo, which I was pretty happy with. Thanks for all of the feedback, and I'm looking forward to growing my collection.

Just take it slow and don’t feel like you have to have them all at once. It’s supoosed to be a fun hobby not a chore and something to put you into debt over. Follow those and you’ll be fine

I’ve started a small collection and now shortly by hopefully next week will have my 9th coming moc with the way Ebay is it does take time occasionaly you can find them going for good reasonable prices I won the bushwackers a short time back for a really reasonable price in UK sterling I suppose it’s just the case of always looking and sometimes just that little bit of luck.
Good luck with your collection

My first advice would be to go the loose route, which you said you're doing -- good move. Right now MOC prices have skyrocketed. Loose is the way to go (and it's more fun IMO).
Also from personal experience I would stay away from large lots unless the paint jobs/condition are great in the photos. I bought a couple large lots of Jakks BCA figures and ended up being so frustrated with the paint jobs that I ended up just dumping 'em all and then going one by one to build up a collection. If clean figures without paint loss is a priority I think that will actually save you time and money in the long run believe it or not.

Follow those and you’ll be fine We'll said. I'd agree with this as it's easy to get stuck into the 'completion mode' from the outset and you don't want it to become a chore. Look forward to each new addition arriving.

I love the early Series Hasbro's. I'll keep an eye out for your updates!

If you're lucky sometimes you can catch a loose collector selling an entire collection, this happened a few weeks back and think they have all sold since then. They were broken down by series, and you could see the condition of pretty much all the figures. That's also how I sold off my loose set a couple years ago.

Loose is gaining momentum now with moc, there's loads Of figures now over the £10 mark etc even figures like Nailz lol, loose or moc it's an expensive hobbie, you'll find bargains it's just about luck but in general it's pricey just take time and be patient and be careful with loose as you get sellers not being thorough with description and you getting crap damaged figures, accessories have sky rocketed and very hard to find with a figure, if you have the cash go for a mint figure with accessories will save you down the line on cash man

Buying big lots is always the best option. Its fun because you are collecting and of course you are getting doubles which you can clean up and sell yourself and make money back.
