Thanks, Amazon.
We already knew this was going to happen. The previous holiday season didn't bring the money needed to stop the bleeding for physical retail stores. And now the most vulnerable of them going into survival mode by closing stores. Make no mistake, this just the 1st wave. Kmart/Sears did the same thing and now barely exist.
We are moving to buying a majority of stuff online as a society. This is the side effect of that.

My wife suggested we go xmas shopping at tru a month ago. I tell her that we can go but expect they will be light on stock because tru isn’t doing well and may be closing. Well I was dead wrong. The place was packed with stuff and seemed lively too. The two stores in my area will stay open through this round of closings at least.

The stores closing around me are older and probably never did much business anyways, but it still sucks to see them closing. One less place to visit on my hunting list.

If Shark isnt made before TRU completely collapses it'll go somewhere else. Ringside will get it or it'll go to Walmart in a flashback set shortpacked one per case. Bill acted like he was gonna orgasm when he was talking about it at RSF so he's not gonna let this one get Gobbledy Gookered
Thankfully York PA somehow survived. Pennsylvania appears to be one of the states to take a really big hit

Not enough people buying toys. I noticed a lot of parents these days are hard on kids, they expect them to be adults at age 4. And I'm sure plenty notice a lot of kids running around with iPads and cell phones.
I think the prices of toys these days are rediculous also. A barbie doll starts at 15$ to 25$ ?? Give me a break. Toys R Us did this. If Amazon can stock the same product 10$ less and offer you free shipping on top of that, then what do they really expect people to do.

Well I'm safe for now, but 2 stores I went to week ago on road trip are closing.
Someone aka amazon really needs to buy out toysrus and save them. People still like going into actual stores.

This really sucks. TRU was a part of my childhood and now I take my own kids there. Also I feel really bad for the employees who will lose their jobs.

This is sad. One of the three near me is closing. Luckily the two I go to the most are safe though. Still sucks.

Amazon isn't going to save them because they would taking on TRU's debt and paying off their creditors. Much easier to set up their own stores. People are moving from actually wanting to go to actual stores. Malls are almost dead. Retail stores are fighting to avoid that fate. Just like how kids wanting electronics instead of traditional toys, going to toy stores is going the way of the phone booth.

The one by where I live in North Haven, CT is closing and the one down the street from my job in Yonkers, NY is as well. Also saw that the Paramus, NJ one by where I grew up is toast too :-( So many memories of buying lots of my Hasbros there in the 90's. Sucks.

Just like how kids wanting electronics instead of traditional toys, going to toy stores is going the way of the phone booth. Yep. When I was growing up video games were 60 bucks and figures were 5-7. So I would get a couple video games for Christmas. Now that figures can be 25 bucks, and my son wants a video game, I just tell him to wait until next week (I buy he and my daughter a toy a week) and it comes out about even. I have no idea how action figures got to the 25 dollar mark.

That's incredibly sad, luckily my childhood TRU is going to remain open.

Luckily my local store and employees seem to be safe. But two of the stores I used to go to as a child in NJ are closing. (East Hanover and Wayne Hills Mall) also the Rt17 Paramus store is a store I occasionally go to. Feel bad for them. I’m not surprised the East Hanover one is closing they haven’t had a great selection of figures.

Luckily all the ones near me are safe for now. There is one that I've been to a few times when I'm in the area, but it's not a shock they're closing.
Sucks for everyone losing their jobs and all the customers losing their stores.
