This is really sad. I mean I'm 33. I am now a collector but I will always remember me and my dad returning cans and bottles every week and going to the local TRU to buy whatever hasbro figure they had. I mean first they stop the circus, now this? How will kids be kids without things and places like this?

Some of those listed are Babies R Us. Thry said in a press release that all stand alone stores will be pushed into the now standard TRU/BRU stores.

I’m only losing one of the three in my area. Thankfully it’s the furthest one, but I did always get the newest releases there first.

😢😢😢😢 so many memories. The toy generation as we knew it (80s on) is over ladies and gentlemen.

Damn kids and their Memecraft and YouTubes... It's all the Tide pod eaters out there that help make these decisions and hit us where it hurts, I swear to God!

Kids nowadays are into cell phones and tablets, not toys. Sadly, the only way toy stores can survive is by marketing to adults.

It's the times... Collectibles toys still exist. LCS can order for you, the second market will catered to you, and only retail is growing in popularity. TRU closing down isn't that big a deal, their prices are often higher with the same amount of rod-hogs and shelf warmers as any other retailer...
I still have my TRU stores, but I only go their when people post findings.

Great the closest one to my house is closing. I think that's the Babies R Us location in Dayton.

My TRU is closing, and it's where I found the repacked Goldberg ring.

I'm sure it has been said already, but most of these are Babies R Us. One of the stores by me, In Mentor, OH, is listed and I googled the address and it's for a Babies R Us. So, might want to double check folks, all the sadness could be for nothing!

Damn, mine got hit hard this time. Half of mine currently in the Bay area, and all but one of the ones I frequented when I lived in Western New York. Crappy.

Well, this is a HUGE one for me. Not only is it the closest to me, but it’s the one I went to as a kid. It’s where I went on the best shopping trip ever with my grandparents and got the WWF Hasbro ring and the rest of Series one and all of two was purchased. It’s where I still buy WWE figs to this day and it’s a shame because it never needed to happen. The death of retail is a thing and it’s not going away any time soon.

I don't even buy action figures anymore, but hearing that the TRU in Union, NJ is closing honestly breaks my heart a little.
That store is my childhood. It's where my brother and I got our first WWF Hasbros. We were hooked after that. I have some really special memories of us watching Superstars on Saturday afternoon then my brother would bug my dad to take us to TRU. It didn't always work, but the few times he did give in were HUGE victories. We'd be all excited in the car wondering which figures they might have. Back then a kid only found out about new figures when they saw them on the shelf. Walking into that aisle (remember those glory days when wrestling figures took up their own aisle and every peg was stocked to the max?) was such a rush of kiddy adrenaline. He always let us each buy a figure and we never left disappointed. And I'll never forget the day he let us buy the ring! Man, those were some fun times.
My memories with that store also go beyond WWF figures. I'll never forget staring in awe at the entire wall of board games that went all the way up to the ceiling! It was so intimidating as a kid. I had no idea how they got the ones all the way on top down. Those Domino Rally sets mixed into the section always caught my eye with their colorful box art. They seem like such a forgotten pastime these days, but looking back makes me remember how big of a deal board games were in the late 80s/early 90s.
Another sight that I'll always vividly remember was their LEGO section. Of course when you're younger and smaller everything seems bigger, but I swear back in the day TRU aisles were legit packed to the rafters. Another entire wall just stacked to the ceiling with all different kinds of LEGO sets. Most of the ones I was building back then were on the small side so gazing at all these very cool, very ENORMOUS spaceship and castle sets on the shelf was unbelievable. How could anybody build something with so many pieces??? The one I'll always remember seeing there was the Blacktron space station base. It was the coolest set ever with all its huge translucent neon green pieces. I wanted it so badly, but never did get my hands on it.
I stopped collecting wrestling figures well over a decade ago. Of course I have the latest Doink from Mattel, but that is it. How weird is this though? I still occasionally dream about walking into that TRU as an adult, however it looks exactly like I remember it as a kid. Hasbros, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, walls of LEGOs and board games stacked to the sky. Why am I dreaming about 25 year-old toy store memories? I'm sure there are quite a few psychological reasons that can be rationalized. Maybe it simply resonates deep in the soul as a special time of just being a kid when your only priority was to bug your dad to take you to Toys "R" Us after wrestling was over.
I haven't been there in many years. Perhaps one more visit before those doors shut forever. Maybe I'll even pick up that new Hasbro-inspired Ultimate Warrior or Undertaker. Seems like a fitting closure as a small part of my childhood comes to an end. Farwell, my forever amazing, sometimes intimidating, yet always magical Union, NJ TRU. You created some truly special memories that will stay with this clown forever. 👍

Kids nowadays are into cell phones and tablets, not toys. Sadly, the only way toy stores can survive is by marketing to adults. Wouldn't work because adults rather buy stuff off Amazon for better prices with cheaper & faster shipping. Places like TRU can't offer that level of service and prices with their business model. Just like Netflix killed Blockbuster and other video chain with their business model. TRU is on the endangered list. Just a matter of them before they get put down.

I got a friend my age who became a TRU store manager after college. That was only 3 years ago. She is now going to lose her job.
