I'll have disc 2 up by Sunday Humanoids. @anthony18 I finally dug out Fire on the Mountain so that will be the next review after this one. You're doing that after disc 3? Why are these reviews so infrequent? Been busy as hell. To do these reviews I have to have time to not only watch em but write up a review.

WWE Unreleased 86-95 Disc 2
Hulk Hogan vs Earthquake-This was taped on the TV tapings post WM VI. Not bad here for the 7 minutes they were given but the bearhug spot does bring it down a tad. The Hulkster with the win after his signature bit boot and leg drop. It's weird to see Quake get pinned clean so early on his run but he'd get his revenge on the Brother Love show just a few months later.
Big Boss Man vs Ted DiBiase- Short but good match here. These two always had chemistry I thought so this match was enjoyable to me. Boss Man with a spine buster and goes for the pin until Virgil breaks it up for the DQ. The nightstick comes out post match. I remember this feud never having an ending as Boss Man would go into a feud with the Heenan Family and DiBiase would go into his feud with Dusty Rhodes.
Mr. Perfect/Rick Rude vs Ultimate Warrior/Texas Tornado- Man Rude's dubbed over theme is TERRIBLE. Slow start to this one but picks up mid match. Babyfaces with the win after Warrior hits his signature shoulder block and splash on Perfect. Rude/Perfect was a team I wish we saw more of. Two of my favorites of all time.
LOD vs Demolition- Crush and Ax teaming up here in a rare sight as it was usually Crush/Smash. Total squash here as sadly Demo was on the decline. Hawk with his flying clothesline on Ax for the easy win. I wish we got a proper feud between these two teams without Crush. Man what could've been...
War Eagle vs Dale Wolfe- War Eagle is the future Tatanka(Hey how are ya,hey how are ya!) Boring match here with the crowd being totally dead for it which is understandable considering you have an unknown and a long time jobber like Wolfe. War Eagle with the win after a Samoan Drop. Next...
Jake ''the snake'' Roberts vs Rick Martel in a blindfold match- This was similar to the WM match with very little different spots in it as you can only do much with the blindfold gimmick. Jake with the win after hitting the DDT. I actually prefer the WM VII match more but that ain't saying much. Damn this match stipulation was so stupid.
Sid Justice vs Ted DiBiase- Sid is new to the company as this was filmed during the Summer of 91. Only about 5 minutes here with DiBiase putting Sid over strong. The master and ruler of the world with his signature powerbomb for the win. Nothing special here but props to Ted for his bumping and selling.
Ultimate Warrior vs Undertaker in a casket match- If you ever saw the Rampage 91 match between these two this match is pretty much the same thing minus the casket. Warrior with the win after hitting Taker with his turn and then shoving him in the box. The crowd was hot but too bad the match wasn't.
Roddy Piper vs Ric Flair- Typical Piper brawling to kick us off.Odd finish here as Flair wins the match clean with a roll up but for some reason the match keeps going. We get some more brawling and a chair spot but Flair rolls up Piper AGAIN for the 3. Very odd finish aside this was your typical brawling match. I love both guys but this was far from their best outing.
Mr. Madness vs Jake ''the snake Roberts''- ''Mr. Madness'' was Randy Savage wrestling in a t-shirt. This was during the time where he was trying to be reinstated to get his revenge on Jake. Basic match here with Jake getting in the majority of offense until Madness comes back in the end. We get a DQ finish when Madness bring in a chair and hits Jake with it. Still one of my favorite feuds of all time.
Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair- Longest match on the disc here and with good reason considering these names. Good match here as it's the typical formula these two are accustomed to when they face each other.Flair gets in majority of the heat until Hogan comes back in classic fashion. Definitely their best WWF match IMO and it was a dark match. Go figure. Hogan with the win by countout after posting Flair on the outside. Fun match here.
We get a Piper's Pit segment post WM VIII which I recall them advertising on Superstars but in the end it never aired. Piper rants here on stuff like Mike Tyson,Buster Douglas and even the scandal the company was going through at the time which I'm going to guess that's why it didn't make TV. Brooklyn Brawler comes out and talk trash about Piper losing at WM VIII but gets beat down in the process. Not one of the best Pits but still interesting to see him talk real life stuff during that time period.
Bret Hart vs British Bulldog for the WWF IC Title- You know this will be good. Slow start at first but picks up quick after these two get going. Bret retains after hitting a german suplex. Nowhere near the SSlam match but still very good and a nice addition to this set.
Bret Hart/Ultimate Warrior vs Kamala/Papa Shango- Short but bad match here with Bret taking the heat until the hot tag to Warrior in which he cleans house. Babyfaces with the win after Warrior splashes Shango. 6 minutes of torture until the hot finish.
Undertaker vs Bam Bam Bigelow- The footage here is actually not in great shape. This is a hard cam match on top of it. Short match here but not bad for what it was. The Deadman with the win after hitting a chokeslam.
The Toxic Turtles vs Tommy Stevenson and Ron Preston- Yes Humanoids this exists. This was 2 minutes of my life I cant get back. Just horrible. The crowd here was booing the hell out of em and with good reason. The Turtles with the win after hitting a senton on Tommy. All I can say is THANK GOD this never made TV as this was just a lawsuit waiting to happen. Wrestlecrap at it's finest.
Final thoughts- Definitely weaker than disc 1 but still some good stuff on it like Bret/Bulldog and Hogan/Flair and the Pipers Pit. STAY FAR CLEAR from the Turles match.
Next time on the Classic Reviews we'll dive into Disc 3 which covers the New Gen era.
Until next time...Stay Classic Humanoids

Being that you enjoyed the product from 86-95 surely you are enjoying watching these classic hidden gems even if some of them probably won't get 5 stars from Meltzer? I know I enjoyed watching these!

I know I enjoyed watching these! completely agree and Screw Meltzer, id rather watch these matches any day of the week Love this dvd for the memories and the matches I never saw back then too - rude and perfect as a team was a match I always wanted to see and to finally see it was awesome. Roll on the sequel for me!

Of the taker/warrior matches they had in 91. Body bag, casket, DQ finishes etc. I thought the casket match on the unreleased was the best and fairly enjoyable unlike what I remember from the others. Maybe my expectation was so low.

Dale Wolfe was my favourite jobber so a blast to see him get a match on here.
Still boggles the mind that Hogan v Flair never turned into a major feud on TV.
Totally agree about your review of LOD v Demolition. I really wish the Road Warriors had signed a year or two earlier. Could have been a fantastic feud. Interesting to see Ax and Crush teaming. Really don’t associate Demolition with that combination

Yeah the set has it's duds but overall it's still a must have. Those years were the best time to be a fan in my book.

Those years were when wrestling was wrestling. Not a wannabe Hollywood production like it has been for the last 17 years.

WWE Unreleased 86-95 Disc 3
Undertaker vs Giant Gonzales-This was taped at the TV tapings right after WM IX and is filmed from the hard camera only. If you seen one match from these two you seen em all. Gonzales clocks The Dead Man with his own urn for the DQ after about 3 minutes. They brawl to the back post match. Terrible match as to be expected but at least it was kept short. Taker would go on to have a string of bad feuds with the only exception being the feud with Yoko IMO. It wasn't until the feud with Diesel in 96 did his career pick back up.
The Smokin' Gunns vs Reno Riggins and Barry Horowitz- The Gunns theme here is dubbed with some generic country music for some reason. Basic tag here they went a little too long considering who they were facing. Gunns with the win after Billy hits a flying bulldog on Riggins.
Shawn Michaels vs Mr. Perfect for the WWF IC Title- Man when I bought this set I was hoping we would've got a good match considering the dud these two would have at SSlam. Well I was wrong. Bad match here that actually makes the SSlam match look like a classic (which it should've been) in comparison. We get a ref bump with Perfect then hitting his Perfect Plex for the 3 from a 2nd ref. Both Bill Alfonso and Earl Hebner dispute the decision post match which leads to nowhere as it just ends soon after. So is Perfect a 3x IC champ?! Again bad match here with both guys looking disinterested with no energy at all.
The Tazmaniac vs Skippy Taylor- Tryout match for the future suplex machine here. Skippy is the future Scotty 2 Hotty here. Not bad here for the little time they were given albeit with a dead crowd which is understandable. Tazmaniac with the win after hitting an over head suplex. Just not the same without Joey Styles on the call. I'm glad Taz didn't stay as with this gimmick he would've been wasted. Him going to ECW was the right move for his career.
Bret Hart vs Yokozuna- Decent 5 minute match here as I always thought these two blended well together. Hitman with the win after Fuji comes in for the DQ after Bret has Yoko in the sharpshooter. Owen Hart comes in post match bur gets beat down for his troubles. The Harts eventually clear the big man from the ring.
Mega Maniacs vs Money Inc with Sgt. Slaughter as ref- This match looked like it was originally going to be on a CHV as you saw the banners during the match. Terrible match here that made their match at WM IX look like a classic in comparison. The babyfaces with the win after Sarge DQs Money Inc for using their briefcase. Sarge was so pointless in the ref role here but I can see why they did it. Bad stuff here.
Lex Luger vs Ludvig Borga- Another bad match here but still way better than the previous match if you can believe that. I actually liked Borga. He played the evil foreigner role to a tee IMO. Luger with the win after hitting him with his loaded forearm. Ughhhh All American Luger was terrible.
Randy Savage vs Crush-Big feud during this time period as it started in the fall of 93 and would end at WM X. Typical Savage match here with his opponent getting in majority of the offense until the big comeback in the end. The flying elbow ends this one. I liked their WM X match but this one not so much.
Bret Hart vs Jim Neidhart- Battle of the Hart Foundation!! Bad match here in a theme of them here but Bret made Anvil look like a million bucks here. Neidhart never fit in the singles role at all. Hitman with the win with a roll up after Anvil collides with Owen on the apron.
British Bulldog vs Jeff Jarrett in a ladder match for the WWF IC Title- We're into 1995 WWF here as you can tell by the empty seats. Bad match by ladder match standards. At one point Lex Luger comes out to run The Roadie backstage. Double J retains after pulling down the belt. Very weak ladder match here. Watch HBK/Razor from SSlam that year to see a better one.
Razor Ramon vs Jeff Jarrett in a ladder match for the WWF IC Title- Another ladder match?!! Better than the last one though as these two put more effort into it. Jarrett retains here after pushing Razor off the ladder with his leg getting tangled up in the ropes allowing him to retrieve the gold. I actually liked the feud these two had this year.
Jerry Lawler and Hakushi vs Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels- Bret and HBK on the same team is a surreal sight considering what would happen just 2 years later. I really liked Hakushi and we all know how gold heel Lawler was. Standard tag match here with the heels getting in a lot of the offense until Bret makes the hot tag to Shawn which changed everything. Bret with the win after locking Hakushi in the sharpshooter. Best tag match on the disc of the 3 but that isn't saying much.
Yokozuna vs Diesel in a steel cage match- Last match on the disc here. Actually not bad here considering this was a match between two hosses. Big Daddy Cool with the win after climbing out after Yoko tries for the door. It's still amazing all Yoko could do for being nearly 600 lbs.
Final Thoughts- Definitely weakest disc of the 3 with not many gems and more duds. Overall this set is a must have for old school fans as you have matches that have never seen the light of day until now. I really enjoyed this and hope they release a volume 2 down the line. Verdict- Recommended.
Next time on the classic we'll dive into some Smokey Mountain Wrestling for the 1st time with Fire on the Mountain 93!

SMW Fire on the Mountain 93
Your Hosts: Les Thatcher and ''Dirty'' Dutch Mantel
''Jiggalo'' Jimmy Del Ray vs Steve Armstrong- Winner here will give their team the advantage in the big cage main event. Solid opener for the 7 minutes they were given as they blended well and you had a hot crowd on top of it. Del ray with the win after Jim Cornette hits Armstrong with his racket. Classic Corny move.
Dirty White Boy vs The Mongolian Stomper- Worst match of the show as it was just a brawl with mostly kicks and punches. If memory serves me right Dirty White Boy was feuding with Bobby Blaze during this time so it would've made sense for them to have a match here instead of what we got. We get a ref bump which leads to a double DQ to finish off this short but very bad match.
Chris Candido vs Tim Horner in a ''Baby Bottle Match''- This stipulation immediately brought back memories of the Razor/123 Kid diaper match from early 96. Stipulation aside the in-ring work was perfectly fine. Finish comes when Horner steps aside and Candido flies over the top rope leading the ref to believe Horner threw him over(which was a DQ) so he awards the match to Candido. Post match Candido forces the bottle on Horner in a stupid bit but Horner fights back and clears the ring. Terrible stipulation and ending but still a good match. Oh yeah gotta give a mention to Candido's theme here. Catchy as all hell.
Tracey Smothers vs Brian Lee for the SMW World Title in a ''Coal Miners Glove Match''- Well right off the bat I can honestly say this was better than the mess we got with Sting/Jake at Halloween Havoc 92. Smothers was over like rover here as he was pretty much the Hogan of this promotion. Good title match here and that's saying something for a Brian Lee match. Personally I was never a fan but both delivered a more than passable match. Finish comes when Dirty White Boy comes out and decks Smothers with a chair to allow Lee to retain.
Team Cornette: Jim Cornette,Bruise Brothers, and Heavenly Bodies vs Team Armstrong- ''Bullet'' Bob Armstrong, RNR Express,Scott and Steve Armstrong in a ''Rage in the Cage Match'' with Big Boss Man as ref- Totally forgot about Boss Man's brief run during this time period in SMW. This is just War Games with a different name. SMW at the time had deals with both WCW and WWF so I guess in the case of the WCW deal they allowed em to use the match concept. This is your typical War Games match with the heels having the advantage until the babyfaces rally in the end. Nowhere near the 80s classics but still not bad. The last 2 from each team to join the fray are Corny and Bullet Bob(no shocker there) with Bob easily tapping him out with his spinning toe hold. This was a big feud in the company's history with Cornette/Armstrong but I don't know this ending felt blah to me watching it back after all these years. Still though a decent War Games match for what it was and worth a look. Post match Boss Man helps the babyfaces clear the heels from the ring.
Final Thoughts- I enjoyed this show. It's only a little over an hour and half long with the only bad match being the Dirty White Boy and The Stomper. If you are looking to get into some SMW this show would be a good start IMO. Also props to Thatcher and Mantel on Commentary. They gave it a old school feel and were great all show. Very underrated team in my book. Verdict- Recommended

I'm glad you finally got around to reviewing a SMW show. It's a shame the promotion only lasted 4 years. Great wrestling and booking that made sense. On a side note, I'm surprised you said Russo was the right choice to be head of creative in the late 90s. Wrestling hasn't been wrestling since the attitude era.
