They would essentially be taking the space back they lost the first time around. How weird is that? They close and TRU express moves in and now TRU closes and they move back in.
I’m all for this, though. I was a KB fan, mainly for the 3 for $10 bins, but TRU was childhood for me. So it’s still bittersweet but I’m glad it’s a familiar face, so to speak.

This is the building of one of the old KB Toys I used to frequent in CT. It's exactly the same except for the paint and windows. It was quite unique compared to my other KBs, lol. Cool! We had one bigger store sorta like that I think in the area. It was in a shopping center and sorta like halfway between TRU and a mall KB in size. KB was pretty good for finding Hasbros, even though they were $7 instead of the $5 at TRU. Unless they were clearance.

Now I wanna see the resurrection of Thornbury’s, Children’s Palace, and Johnny’s Toys. No way! Another Johhny's Toys bro? High five man that place was the bomb Wasn’t part of my childhood but I moved to Cincinnati about 16 years ago and was a huge fan of that store. I was upset to see it close. Apparently the castle thing is coming back.

Patience, Blockbuster video killed Mom and pop video stores now, blockbuster is gone and some Mom and pop video stores are popping back up. I suspect toy stores will do the same.
With the video store you can go browse and maybe you see Revenge of the Nerds and you pick it up on a whim. Streaming is more concise at yes but your selection is just based on what the streaming service has up which is usually just past hit movies while the video store lets you pick limited selection but you can pick out Time Rider if it is there
Toy stores are the same I cannot get every toy I want from Wal Mart it target or even amazon. Toy companies will need that 12 month show room. I don’t collect spawn but they got a few sales from me over the years because I saw one of their figures at a toy store and picked it up. If I was just ordering online I would have never bought it and I would never have saw it at Wal Mart or Target.

Not to be a Debbie downer but what keeps them from meeting the same fate as Toys R Us? It already did, 9 years ago...

Now I wanna see the resurrection of Thornbury’s, Children’s Palace, and Johnny’s Toys. Ha, Children's Palace. Haven't heard that store name in years. I have vague memories of going to that store in the late 80s/early 90s.

Sounds interesting.. but nowhere near enough info to get too excited over. Cool if it happens, but I wouldn't wait under water.
I think a more realistic hope is that other retailers pick up some of the slack and expand their toy departments. The 2 I'd look at is Target and Walgreens. Both companies have the money, Target has space and Walgreens has that neighborhood convenience.

Not to be a Debbie downer but what keeps them from meeting the same fate as Toys R Us? TRU had so much waste and overhead and lost track of the core of its business. KB had very small footprints relative to TRU and used every inch of the store to its advantage, making it to run very efficiently. They also didn't waste time or space with toys that didn't move.

Not going to happen Toys r us owns KB Toys and fao schwarz
Liquidation K·B Toys closed 156 stores on November 8, 2007, leaving the chain with 1,144 stores.
Following the company's second bankruptcy in five years, the chain began going-out-of-business sales in December 2008. The store-closing sales (as well as the termination of the company's website) were concluded on February 9, 2009.[6]
The K·B Toys brand and related intangible assets were sold by Streambank LLC to Toys "R" Us on September 4, 2009, for a reported $2.1 million. Because K·B Toys's 460 stores had been closed and liquidated, the sale applied mainly to the company's logo, website, trademarks, and other intellectual properties. Toys "R" Us was initially unsure of how to integrate the K·B name into its business plan.[3] Toys "R" Us has used the K·B Toys name on self-manufactured toys under the name "KB Classics" with the K·B Toys logo. - wikipedia

The simplest explanation: "use it or lose it" when it comes to valuable names. Some call these "Zombie Trademarks," and the International Trademark Association published an excellent article back in 2016 that explains the process, citing Kassoff's work as an example. During the Macy's dispute, Strategic Marks was able to acquire several "legacy" brands, while Marshall Field's remained under Macy's ownership. As the ITA pointed out, "non-use of a mark for three consecutive years creates a rebuttable presumption of abandonment," which opens the door for someone else to claim the trademark and use it for identical purposes. That is from the article in the OP. It also includes a quote from Ellia Kassoff stating "As some of you know, our company Strategic Marks, LLC has acquired KB Toys about a year ago" So, it very much can happen.

I spent so much time in the KB Toys that we had in our mall, as a kid.
I hope this is true, but then again ... malls aren’t doing so hot these days, so they’re also a sinking ship.

KB was cool but my issue with it was that the prices were always a lot higher than anywhere else.

Please make it happen. KB was a bigger part of my life than TRU. Mostly because it was a walk or bike ride away compared to my TRU, which was a little over 20 mile away. same here. my earliest figure memories were in KB Thirded. My mom worked at KB for 5 years, me for a year. Same store she worked at too, lol.

Id love for it to happen but I honestly dont expect to see anything of it. Yeah, it takes more than 7 or 8 months to open up a chain of stores, even if you have 1 or 2 in all the big cities. Linked article says they hope by Christmas, so we're a good 9 months out.
