Hey everyone, I was curious where you guys get your decals from, I’ve been trying to make a couple of customs of some guys I really like even though I stopped mass collecting, any suggestions on where to get em?

I like Papilio decal paper, produced by Texascraft. You can buy waterslide decal paper, or thin vinyl or other sticker materials of various thinness to print yourself. I bought several of their sample packs, and was pleased with the results. The waterslide decal paper is a little more involved. You can buy the inkjet variety, and then spray it with a few coats of clear finish. Then, it transfers like a normal waterslide decal. The sticker pagers are a straightforward print, cut and stick application.

I know most use waterslide, but I figured I'd ask.

I personally like the White Waterproof Vinyl, as it's a matte white, and conforms to curves very well, I've found. The Glossy Photo Film is a thinner material than the vinyl, but as the name states, is quite shiny. I ended up using a matte spray to tone it down a bit. Either of these is a great option if you are printing a decal that requires a white background. If you are going for a decal with a clear background, their waterslide decal paper works nicely, though they also sell Clear Glossy Vinyl. I didn't try their Clear Glossy Vinyl, as I ended up using the waterslide paper instead. At the time, I was doing markings on World War I aircraft and starships. All of these mentioned were their Inkjet variety, as that's what I have at home. Unless they've changed their options, you can purchase laser printing papers as well. Here are some different examples where I used these: The airplane roundels and tail flashes, as well as the shark mouth, were printed on the Glossy Photo Film and sprayed with matte finish. Ernie Ladd's monograms, as well as Tex Mckenzie's boot details were printed on the White Waterproof Vinyl.

They were actually Mr. Kennedy's regular boots, but I ended up using an exacto knife and cutting away big chunks on them until I was left with a general cowboy boot look. I can't remember if I added some sculpting to the calf portions, I'd have to look more closely again. Then, I used my mini rotary tool to do some fine sanding and grinding. After that, I painted them blue, and added the red and white designs as cut-outs from the vinyl.

Those are beautiful decals on Tex Mckenzie's boots by the way. I need to use the same technique to fix up some of my Jakks figures.
