Obviously Pujols wanted to play, and he was LaRussas own guy. Big difference than Michael Young and the pitchers.
Pujols should say he wants to be traded to Boston for Coco Crisp and Eric Hinske and a BJ from Theo

Pujols needs to play first base for the yankees. Joe would have played him.

If it was up to Joe Torre, Andy Phillips would be the starting first baseman at the All Star game. And Wil Nieves would be the starting AL catcher.

Andrew (Brooklyn, NY): Isn't it fitting that Barry Bonds called Alex Rodriguez one of his closest friends last night? What the heck do those two talk about? And does A-Rod try to hard during those conversations like he does in all other conversations in his life?
SportsNation Bill Simmons: (12:37 PM ET ) They met in a "Nobody Likes Us" support group.
Mike, DC: Am I wrong, or was Eric Byrne's dog swimming away from the boat the best part of the all-star game? Or was it Willie's pink caddy?
SportsNation Bill Simmons: (12:52 PM ET ) No, Byrnes's dog was the best part - because every TV viewer could empathize with the dog.

Bottom line- Tony LaRussa didn't play that game to win it. If home field advantage wasn't on the line, you can't fault him, but the fact is that home field is now on the line. Jim Leyland could have left Putz in there, but he wanted to win(probably because his team has a heck of a lot better chance to make it to the World Series than LaRussa at this point), but still you now have to play to win the game. It wasn't exactly a tough call... you have the bases loaded and Albert Pujols on the bench, you put Pujols in to take his cuts to try to win the game. A clutch hit could have added another chapter to the already outstanding career of Pujols, not that he really needs it but it would have been another nice chapter to add to his hall of fame bound resume,

Average with runners in scoring position & 2 outs:
Rowand- .395 Pujols- .313
Average with bases loaded:
Rowand- .571 Pujols- .400
I don't think it was stupid.

Anyone who would bat Rowand over Albert Pujols is stupid, he is having an off year, check the career stats there T1 on those numbers

The stats really don't matter. Pujols didn't get a chance to play, and now he's wining and crying about it. Just like he was being a little bitch about not being MVP last year when Howard clearly deserved it. And if Pujols is having a "bad year" why should be put in the game which I'm pretty sure is taking place this year? Especially when Rowand is on course to having his best year of his entire career. La Russa made the right coice, Pujols just can't face it like most other things that don't go his way.

and its obvious Pujols is less angry about not playing as he is about La Russa's continued piss poor communication skills. this craphas been happening nonstop since the NLCS last year when he pulled a similar stunt with Rolen (who still hates him). I could rant forever on this but I don't have the patience. I absolutely cannot wait to see La Russa gone. He's had a great decade in St. Louis, thanks for the title, now please leave, your welcome was worn out a long time ago.
