Well he wont be a 30$ million dollar man until 2011, which is when he will be what 36-37? And he wont get 30 million then.
I dont think some of you get why he would opt out here is an explanation:
If he stays with NY and does not work out a contract extension .1 - 1.0% chance of this happening He will get this: 07-10:$27M/year and be a FA and will be 36...thus his chance of making 20-30 at the age of 36 is slim
Next option, he works out an extension with the Yankees keeping him in NY til 2015, which will get him around 30 a year...this is possible, but Id say this is 25% chance of happening. And he gets 79+ 4 years at 25-30$ leaving 189 or so in total earnings if he does this
He opts out, which is THE SMART BUSINESS decision, makes team bid against the Yankees, waits for someone to pay him 8 years at 30$ million which would get him 240$ million and even play somewhere he wants
Option 1: 79+80=159$ roughly Option 2: 79+120=199$ roughly Option 3: 240-250$ roughly
Now why would he not want to opt out?

Clemens should just retire, atleast in the N.L. Central there was some gleam of hope since everybody is bad.
This was truly a waste so far and I'm sure he had no idea the Yankees would be in a such a bad spot.
Morgan Ensberg for Clemens thnx

I am not even saying ARod is leaving NY, but it would be fiscally stupid for him to not opt out and take care of himself until he retires. Scott Boras does NOT allow his players to turn down money, so why would he bend over for the Yankees?
Yankees will negotiate with ARod if he opts out, Cashman is full of shit.

I already explained a scenario where he wouldn't opt out. If he really wants to stay in New York like he claims, and the Yankees give him EVERYTHING he wants, then why would he want to opt out? Chances are, if the Yankees go all out and give A-Rod everything and more of what he's asking, no other teams will be able to match it.

You need to just deal with it Thug, he is opting out. Doesnt mean hes leaving, but God forbid the mighty Yankees dont win this negotiations.
Rodriguez may void after 2008 or 2009 unless club increases 2009-10 salary by $5M/year or $1M more than highest-paid MLB position player.
They have to do that before FA starts but Boras wont allow them to negotiate with him during the season and increase it or whatever, hence HE WILL OPT OUT AND THEN NEGOTIATE.

Well According to ESPNEWS, a "source" within the Yankees says that if A-Rod opts out, the Yankees wont negotiate and wont be involved in a Free Agent Bidding War. So either sign now or dont opt out. Also, Jorge says that he will test the free agent market after this season ends.
I cant see the Yankees letting go of Jorge, but A-Rod, even after his whole "I want to stay in NY" rather than "I WILL stay in NY", does kinda make me think that he'll go where the money is and quite frankly, the money that the Yankees will spend is gonna be crazy. Cashmans gotta think this one through.
Spend a crap load of money on A-Rod or put equip your team with better players next year. Tough choice in my opinion.

Like I said, what the Yankees said by not negotiating with him is bullshit, its called posturing. They are doing it, as is Boras.

Posada never said he would test the FA market. He said that he would go somewhere else if the Yankees didn't want him back.

Seattle actually gets some pitching help, that team might even win the West one of these years, or until Ichiro falls over and dies

No I actually read it too, Posada said hes never been a FA and is looking forward to it. Lemme find the link
Like Alex Rodriguez, pending free agent Jorge Posada said Thursday that he has no plans to negotiate a contract extension during the season. "I'm going to wait until the offseason, anyway," Posada said. "There's no sense for me to negotiate something now when I can wait and see what happens. I want to wait. I've never experienced free agency. I'm looking forward to it. First time ever. Probably the only time ever. I want to see what it’s all about."
Ooooops thug.

That's not the entire quote. He also said:
“This is the only team I know,” said Posada, 36 next month. “If they don’t want me here, I don’t want to come back."
Obviously, the Yankees will want him back so it's all a moot point. Vince Carter said the same thing at the end of last year's NBA season and he re-signed with the Nets literally a day or two after he became an UFA. It's just a ploy to get the organization to negotiate with them ASAP.

That obviously can change, they might want him back but not as much as other clubs, hence the waiting. If he honestly wanted to remain a Yankee no matter what, he would negotiate and take what they offer.
He wants to see what is available, he wants the most money he can get and the most job security. This happens a lot, he probably will go back to NY, but its not a moot point especially with an older catcher who someone will overpay.
On the ARod front, Boras put a opt out clause in his contract for a reason...not just to talk about it

We'll see how all this plays out with the Yankees/Arod. Plaschke from Around The Horn thinks there gonna ship him off before the trade deadline unless he negotiates. Ya, okay, like that'll happen.
Im heading out for the weekend and im sure the buzz will continue till monday. Until then, Im heading to the Mets game tonight (its Endy Chavez bobble head night, which i must say, its a pretty bitchen bobble head, from the catch during the post-season) and then I head upstate. Peace
