How long is the Mattel license with WWE set to last?
I'm quite intrigued as to exactly what will happen when the license is up for grabs again. How has Hasbro not made a play for this line?

How many people would actually wanna collect? I remember a ton of people swear off Mattel when they took over from jakks.

I hope it stays with them. We all would pick and choose people we want made and changes sure, but man the overall quality cannot be denied for me. Would not start over that’s for sure.

no matter what happens this is the last company i fully invest any wrestling figure collecting in. so if it lasts until 2021 then i continue collecting until 2021.

For all of Mattel's recent "blah" state, the thought of starting over with a new company is a nightmare I imagine for most of us (and definitely me).

I vastly prefer Mattel’s bucks to Hasbro. I know the latter is favored as no re realistic, but I just like the uniform look that Mattel produces, whether it’s WWE, MOTUC or DCUC.

I'm glad they have the license for a good 3 years. There's still a load of names I'm after Mattel.

I think Hasbro has turned it around with the Black Series after a rocky start (and people seem to love Marvel Legends, though I personally don't see the appeal) but in general I too much prefer Mattel's style of figures overall, whether it's WWE or MOTUC, etc. For all of our criticism, we're lucky in that regard.

How many people would actually wanna collect? I remember a ton of people swear off Mattel when they took over from jakks. When Mattel took over from Jakks I had a few dozen figures at most. It wasn't a big deal to switch to a new line, particularly once I saw what I considered a drastically improved line in terms of scaling and parts choices. Now that I have approximately 600 Mattel figures, it would be a lot harder to switch to a new line from a different company UNLESS they played it smart by producing figures in a similar scale and look to Mattel figures. I hope Mattel and WWE keep working together well past 2021.

I just don’t know if I can start over with another company after Mattel’s run is over. I said the same as Jakks was coming to an end, but Mattel put out a better overall product than Jakks did. Combine that with the fact that half my Jakks collection was TTL and half was RA, and Mattel was releasing 2 lines in basics and elites that , although different, still scaled well with each other and had a somewhat similar look. Mattel won me over. The thing is, for a company to improve over Mattel’s product the price is going to have to go up as well. And although there’s an occasional exception with an exclusive or Defining Moment/Entrance Greats figure, I just don’t think I wanna go over $20 per figure. So if another company was to take over, I would probably just pick up the essentials. The essentials for me would be Warrior, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, purple glove Taker, red shoulder pads LOD, Diesel, Savage.

This may be unrelated but I prefer Mattel and their figures much more than Hasbro. One thing that has limited my purchases of Marvel Legends is the way the figure is made. There is something more fluid to Mattel figures. They’re much more “playable” in that sense. Their joints move much more smoothly and I prefer it to Hasbro’s clicking arm and leg joints. I do wish Mattel took a page from Hasbro’s book and made their figures have the amazing ankle pivot.

I think that Mattel has done a great job, especially compared to Jakks. I'm also with those who say that they would like for Mattel to continue because they don't want to start collecting over again. Wouldn't mind Hasbro taking over the Retro Line though, but that's because I grew up with the WWF Hasbro's.

This gets brought up quite a bit and I still have the same stance, this is my last full run of collecting. I don't have it in me to start over so hopefully Mattel gets an extension.

I don't have the room for a new line. The only way I see myself restarting is if it's extremely high end display pieces like Hot Toys, and even then, I would be very selective about only certain legends.
The only other way I'd restart a collection is if Hasbro reacquired the license and started doing Retro figures as authentic as possible, with things like issuing unreleased figures from the actual molds.

If Mattel doesn’t keep the license then I’ll have to pack it in. I’m turning 32 soon and wouldn’t have it in me to start over. Mattel has hit every point on my list and I love their figures. It can’t get better than them.
