I think we should discuss how in the world of Professional Wrestling, you can't rule out the possibility of some rather odd things becoming really successful. When I make this statement, I'm referring to instances when a gimmick, pairing, concept turned out in a way no one could have foreseen. To give an example: Team Hell No: The rise to tag team success of the strange bedfellows Kane and Daniel Bryan. My reason for using this example is that I recently saw a photo from the 2011 Money In The Bank Ladder Match. I own the match on DVD, but hadn't thought about it in a while. In the photo, I saw Kane jumping from the top rope to impale Daniel Bryan. It's insane to think that in a year's time that Kane would return under his mask after 7 years and the guy we all knew as Mr. Independents would somehow end up in an angle where they hug each other and bicker their way to victory as a tag team. It's something that sounds ludicrous to any wrestling fan in any year prior to 2012, but it happened and a good number of us, myself included, enjoyed it and paid to see it.
With that being said, let's talk about instances in wrestling when events happened that seemingly came out of nowhere or were essentially impossible until right before they happened and such.

ECW entering the Invasion. I was in my room playing with my old OSFT ECW figures at the age of 13, and hearing the ECW music hit and watching my favorites storm the ring.... That was a priceless night.

ECW entering the Invasion. I was in my room playing with my old OSFT ECW figures at the age of 13, and hearing the ECW music hit and watching my favorites storm the ring.... That was a priceless night. the entire invasion angle was surreal for sure. Bret Hart shaking hands with hbk was a big deal to me, as Bret was a childhood favourite and national hero. Ricky Steamboat having an awesome outing against Chris Jericho in middle age, including a leap over the top rope to the outside. Foley coming off the Cell. The Rock actually getting over...he was more disliked than Roman Reigns during his initial run. Ric Flair going to the WWF and bringing the title with him. Sting losing to HHH at wrestlemania... there’s actually countless examples of wrestling, and wwe specifically, that were unimaginable before they occurred.

The ending of the Undertaker's Streak after such a dull build in which all signs pointed to Brock losing, lending legitimacy to the rumor the decision was made in the last week by Vinnie Mac himself.
The CM Punk promo famously known as the "Pipebomb promo."
The acquisition of both ECW and WCW by Vince McMahon in 2001. Many may have seen the troubles the companies were going through but I'd say not many would have seen them absorbed and folded into the WWE landscape, though not utilized in the best of ways.
Muhammad Hassan getting fired for a stupid stunt concocted in the minds of Creative and allowed to be televised by WWE, even after a real world tragedy.
The sudden departure of Kurt Angle back in 2006, right when he was positioned to become the new face of the newly-launched ECW brand
The Shakespearean saga Matt Hardy went through around 2005, and the benefit it served to the career of Edge. On a related note, the notoriety and online popularity of Snitsky that ensued from an angle about the miscarriage of a child borne out of a "forced physical encounter" between Lita and the current Mayor-elect of Knox County, Tennessee.
Montreal Screwjob.
A certain someone with many appearances on WWE programming and a spot in the WWE HOF coming to occupy the office of the US Presidency.
The losses of Eddie Guerrero and Owen Hart.
Of course, the Benoit thing.

After being pushed so strongly in NXT, teams like American Alpha, Sanity, Revival, AOP’s momentum being snuffed out to a degree that I doubt they’ll ever fully recover their lustre. Add Enzo/Cass to that too I suppose.
I mean, what is the point of NXT again??

The abject failure of the Invasion angle and then history repeating itself (to a much lesser degree) with the NXT call-ups.

As well as everything already mentioned, there was Owen Hart’s shocking death. I was actually surprised that Kurt Angle mentioned TNA on Raw recently and that WWE had interviewed Dixie Carter for an AJ docu. Did someone mention Hogan’s heel turn? I guess Davey Boy Smith’s heel turn came out of nowhere.
