This is a really peculiar case. It seems two years ago they were about to put the rocket strap on Finn. Now two years later it seems like he is destined for mid-card for life. He’s never been able to recover from that injury and they never position him as being close to a top guy. How do you think the trajectory of Finn’s career would have been if he never got hurt? Would he have still been a top guy or would he have been trickled down to the mid-card either way? It’s really interesting to think how different everything could have been if he never got hurt.

After Balor’s injury, KO was handed the belt by HHH, and we never found out why. The seas parted and Goldberg made up with the company, came back for a longer than 1 match run, took the belt from Owens and proceeded to drop it to Lesnar at WM. If I’m not mistaken, the rumors at the time of Finn’s victory was that Lesnar was supposed to take the belt in the fall, so I’d be lying if I didn’t think Finn was going to hold the championship for a couple months before being fed to Lesnar.

I feel like he would've been a way bigger deal right now if he never got hurt.
It's crazy to see how far he's fallen, I can't remember someone giving up the belt as Champ, and returning from injury as to more of a crap situation than Finn has been in

I think he would have been flattened by Lesnar at some point.

I remember seeing the matches scheduled and it was Balor vs. Owens feud, and a HIAC match with Owens as well.
I think Owens would have beat him, just Balor would have had two months with the belt instead of 24 hours.

Might be for the best. I'd almost guarantee that Brock would have not only beaten him for the belt, but he probably would have beaten Finn as the Demon. You know Vince loves putting feathers in Brock's cap. He would have seen it as nothing to have Brock destroy the Demon's mystique.

An interesting thing to think about for sure with how much Finn has now fallen. I really think they just hit the fast forward button on the Owens title run. You could tell early on anyway with Owens the way they wanted to strap the rocket to his back. And I don't doubt HHH was campaigning for Owens to take the title at some point soon.

I think they gave him the title and pushed him right after the brand split to give the false impression that pushing Finn really was going to be the start of "a new era." They needed to do something right after the brand split to get people excited over. It's really the same reason they pushed Ambrose at the time and gave him the title, only to completely lose interest in him after about a month. If they called up Finn just to immediately feed him to Roman or Brock, the brand split would've been looked at as an immediate failure. Ultimately, I think everything would've played out the same in the end - Finn would've gotten a few months in the spotlight as a way of Vince giving the fans what they wanted before ultimately going right back to Brock/Roman, as has been the case for the last five years. He typically has always done this right after a brand split/draft - give the fans a shiny new toy to get their attention, only to take it away the second he gets them hooked.

No offense here but I think getting injured Helped Finn, in the very least saved him from being eaten alive by Lesnar.

They probably would have had Lesnar beat the Demon and then still have Reigns slay the Beast. I think KO and Goldberg were a nice little sidetrack....but the ultimate goal was still Lesnar and Reigns.
It's just a shame because Finn has never even gotten close to getting back to where he was. Not even an IC Title reign, which I think is loooooooong overdue.

The story of Finn Balor is a sad one. Why he's not a heel and running around with Gallows and Anderson on Smackdown right now is pretty ridiculous. Don't want to use the Demon? No problem. Heel. That's it. Easy.
Balor is super talented and charismatic and he should be at the tippy top of the mid card for periods when he's not pulled up to the top. Treat him like main event run Jeff Hardy. An enigma that absolutely prints money when he's the Demon.

I think that would have gone out the window when Goldberg was added to the mix, Balor would have lost the title to a heel who lost it to Goldberg.

I don't know if anything has been more of a dud in the past two years then when they put the Club back together on Raw only to do absolutely nothing with them and then send Anderson and Gallows to SD (and then do even less with them).

He'd have tagged with Rollins against Jericho and Owens a million times in Raw main events.

When he first debut on the main roster fans were turning on him big time because of his instant push and title win so if he was kept a face he may have became very unpopular.
Also I could've imagined Lesnar destroying him as the demon which would've totally ruined the persona.

I think Finn would have a much more major player throughout these couple years had he not been hurt. Equivalent of AJ Styles on SDL? Definitely not, especially with Lesnar and Reigns. Universal Champion a 2nd time had he loss the belt to Lesnar or whoever? Maybe not. Main event scene on a rather consistent basis? Yeah, I think so. Or, if WWE felt strongly enough about him after his Universal Title reign had been over, maybe he moves over to SDL to be a top guy over there with AJ.

He will have most likely dropped the title after a few weeks and still become irrelevant. Because Vince.
