Not trying to come off as a whiney thread but do any of you feel the end is near? Either you don't feel like trying to keep up -- or you're just frustrated? Is it the choices in direction or the overall lack of availability?
I'm new to this game as of a few years ago. I purchased many figures online from the past that I was able to collect for decent prices but I've noticed how difficult it is to track down new ones at Walmart and Target. I've been to so many Walmarts, some farther away than I wanted to go to find these -- and I just can't score the new Flashback Wave, it's always a couple of straggling Stone Colds. It's not reassuring either knowing that previous waves were stocked maybe twice in my area.
Then there's Target? Ha, forget it, wave 2 and 3 of HOC is nowhere to be seen around here. Half the stores barely got any of those from Wave 1.
Now the new Mattel plan is to insert flashbacks as store exclusives. Rhetorical question here but do you guys have any idea of how hard it's going to be to snag a Backlund, Sherri or whomever they add in an actual store? Answer: I'm not sure I'll even bother trying.

Honestly while my state is slow to get the Target & Walmart store exclusives, I’ve never had problems finding everything...eventually.
So long as they keep making them & finding ways to release more (ie outside the main elite line) then things are still rolling along.

I feel the same. It’s hard to justify the price tag especially with most flashbacks being repaints. I know stone cold was one of the most popular guys ever but how many attires did he have? It was a waste. It’s hard as hell to find the store exclusives sometimes too.im not done yet but I feel the end is near for me. Like you said. The store exclusives will be hard to get unless for some reason they get an entire case and then they’ll rot.
I like flashbacks but I’m tired of the repaints and no new name. Warriors, savages and undertakers are getting tiring. We don’t have the rest of the Nation for whatever reason. Kama coulda had Narion and fighter. Neither got done. They rereleased the new age outlaws when the original were fine. They did Hall in every NWO possible but we got 1 razor Ramon. He had every color attire possible and we got nothing. The choices are poor and the ability to get them becomes poor in really done

I understand where you’re coming from, I just started to not care anymore. I stopped looking for target hoc2 and 3 already. I’d still like to get Kane and Paul bearer but if I don’t then it’s whatever. There was a time when I was dying for something to come out for me to hunt, but right now I know maybe 7 or 8 figures out there that I want to buy but just haven’t for whatever reason but mostly because it’s not convenient in one way or another.

Less of them yea, but obviously they dont sell as well some people think, i doubt its the end, as they just started with the store exclusives Im happy to get any FBs Loads of people have reported finding the FB lines, so just Target or Walmarts distribution is off if you're having trouble finding them, theres always ebay and other members on here that help getting them, Im in the UK and there hasnt been an exclusive that I wasnt able to get

I think the line is definitely at a crossroads. The chase has gotten a little frustrating lately, mostly due to the Harley Race figure. I definitely spent more time and gas driving to stores over the last month and a half than I have at any other point in my collecting life. Beyond that? It has started to feel stale. Mattel did an amazing job churning out so many characters from across companies and eras. But now the well has basically dried up. There are only so many attires of HBK, Warrior, and Savage that I can justify buying. Am I excited about Backlund or Sherri? Sure. But not excited to the point of driving around like a madman to find them.
There needs to be an infusion of more licensed talent, plain and simply. I love the line and I love the figures they've produced. But it just feels like the line is "stuck" for lack of a better phrase. Some of the repaints are great, but they need to be supplemented by something to get collectors excited. Something new and fresh. Mattel has been producing some of the best figures in the line's history, imo. But it's hard to get excited when we keep seeing the same names recycled over and only the occasional first time in the line figure sprinkled in.

It's always been frustrating living in Canada, though I must say the Heartbreak Hotel set was, and still is shockingly easy to find here. No sign of series 3 however. I definitely feel like there's some guys they can re-release, if only to complete sets. The new Steamboat has me excited for example, to place him on display with my DM2 Savage. If there are glaring holes like that being filled, I'm not complaining. As for guys that haven't been released yet, that's mostly for obvious reasons I find. Or because I'm cynical and assume we won't get them. Though I am worried about the likelihood that I'll be able to track down the upcoming Backlund. I'm also still having fun tracking down all the stuff I have yet to get through the years. Can't see me ever quitting or getting bored anytime soon.

I'm a picky collector and I have to be on a budget as well, so if a repainted figure comes out that is amazing looking (like that new HOC Warrior) I want it but its not a necessity that I buy it. That's even rare for me to want to buy repaints. But all of the other ones they've been doing - Doink, Razor in street clothes, Shawn Michaels, New Age Outlaws, Kane... I have ZERO interest in those. BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE THEM, lol. Then you see odd figures like the Shark that no one was ever asking for, haha. It's fine, I bought it but ok Mattel, funny joke. Probably not that funny at the end of the day.

I do really want that Steamboat too but I'm a huge fan of his so that's like, a no-brainer. I'll likely sell off the legends one -- if I ever find this new one, lol.

For me, it has taking just a little bit of time to find the Walmart figures, but yes, the Target figures are a nightmare because while my city has 4 Walmart locations, I only have 1 Target, which makes hunting for Target figures much more frustrating. Target's stocking strategy does make it discouraging to continue collecting these figures, but I'm more upset at Mattel for not addressing this in any way. Sure, it's up to the stores to stock their items, but if they're not doing their job, then why would Mattel continue to distribute through them and give them exclusive products if people can't even get to them?

I’ve never had a problem finding any figure other than E16 Nash. I never seen it anywhere. Diesel I found multiple times but never Nash. Fortunately I had a friend in another state that found it and was able to get it for me. The only thing I’m worried about are chase figures. If Nash was packed in every other case and impossible to find, then how much harder is it going to find a figure packed in every fourth case?

I feel like based on the answer given by Bill about releasing the talent list that there are people signed that we don't know about but for whatever reason they feel like won't sale and so they won't make. It makes me wonder how Jakks was able to get away with making the guys they made, and continued to make for years, yet Mattel won't touch some of them.

A couple of things here, I do think they have tried many many different ways to get flashbacks to us to many varying results. Online exclusives, it’s own line, store exclusive lines, putting them regularly into the line and we get to a certain point where the line slows, or just rots. It’s been stated many times stores just don’t want that. They want current top stars on their pegs at all times. Bill has stated that over and over again. The stores want their consumers to be able to walk in a store and get Aj, Cena, Roman, Braun. Despite what we think, that’s what the stores want. Up to this point the stores have also probably been ok with Hogan, Warrior, Macho, Flair because they are the top stars of all time. But how many of those can they keep making? This is another attempt to find a way to get us the figures that we want. Really we should give them the benefit of the doubt and see how this plays out. Bill mentioned getting more pegs in the stores for elites and holding off on the store exclusive lines for now. Look say what you will we all here want Sherri, but put Sherri in every single store and she will wind up like JYD, Tugboat, and Berzerker. This is a new way to get us who we want. The only one I don’t agree with of the first five selections is Pete Dunne. I think he would have sold just fine. Let’s see what the stores look like in 2019 before we go condemning them again and again in these threads.

Maybe the chase figures are signs of Mattels guilt over rereleases, hoping to add back a little value lost from collections after they rereleased Boss Man, Shango, Warrior L6, Kane E12, Undertaker SDCC lol

Also Toys R Us threw the entire business upside down and I think the stores have more companies demanding space with less space to go around. That is a huge factor in all of this that gets very understated.

Collecting Legends has just gotten boring. We're not getting new faces at any kind of consistent pace and it's just made me not care. I've spent the majority of the last year buying vintage wrestling figures to fill the void. I have a figure addiction and if Mattel doesn't want my money I'll spend it on other stuff. Nothing more I can do, beyond complaining on the internet, which I quite enjoy also.

If they aren't going to sign new guys/gals then I am fine with whats happening because I'm not interested in repaints really. This line is kind of going back to the way it was in 2012 when they axed the Legends line and we saw legends figures greatly reduced.

I haven't seen new figures in stores since E60/B85/FB2/HOC2/HardysBPwave, so not really? I did just get HTM(great figure) from Gamestop and their stores have become pretty toy friendly recently with exclusives and frequent sales.
I'm just worried it's all gonna storm down at once and I'm not gonna have the $600+ to buy the new; NXT elites, Fan Central basics, battle packs, and elites, regular basics, battle packs, and elites, chase basics and elites, Zombie basics, the last 3 Entrance Greats, the last 3 Epic Moments sets, the last 4 series of retros, the Survivor Series elites, Retrofest Duggan, Walgreens Bliss, THE JUMBO RING, and Superstar girl figures in addition to FB3 and HoC3.
Between basics, retros, and elites up to Wrestlemania 35 we probably have 20+ coming out? It just seems troubled because the functioning toy retailers either can't keep up or they're too stingy with their ordering to bring this stuff out, like my Targets still have ONE PEG for their exclusives, so only half a case can go out and they're encouraged to not help you because of Hasbro and Funko collectors.

At least you have Walmart and Target stores so actually have a chance of finding these figures... other countries/collectors don't .
