I've been watching some old stuff lately. And a question I've always wondered came up again. Does anyone know why they had Sherrie dress like this...  To co-manage Honky Tonk Man? Why Peggy Sue instead of Sensational Sherrie? Is there a story or just one of Vince's weird things? |

I’d say it was just a weird Vince thing. I believe it was around about the time honky and valentine were in rhythm & blues. I guess Vince thought Peggy Sue was a better fit for the team than Sensational Sherri.
She was also WWF women’s champion, according to wiki, at the time so may have been to keep her identity hidden in the Peggy Sue disguise

Sherri was Peggy Sue in 1988 when Savage vs. Honky Tonk Man feud was happening. Sherri would go after Elizabeth as Peggy Sue. Plus there is that song, "Peggy Sue, Peggy Sue" so it fit in with the whole 'Elvis' Honky Tonk Man thing.
Also, Jimmy Hart would dress up as Peggy Sue on house shows and George Steele would be in Beefcake's corner as a 'woman' and attack Jimmy Hart.

Yeah the “Peggy Sue” gimmick fit with the HTM’s “Elvis” as that was what Elvis’s groupies looked like in the 50’s.

I remember the gimmick debuting right in the heart of the Savage/Honky feud in late 87. It definitely fit Honky's character so yeah I can see why Vince went with it over just Sherri being his valet.
Didn't last long though as I don't remember seeing the character much after WM IV. Props to Sherri though for playing the role to a tee. I had no clue it was her until way later.

It was to flesh out Honky and give Sherri something. The women's division wasn't really on fire since the WWF dropped the ball on it. Sherri was even champion at the time she was doing the Peggy Sue gimmick.
