I still feel the sting when they couldn't find a way to keep Jack Evans around

Still can’t believe AEW lost Punk, Cody, Jade, Pillman etc Pillman is crazy overrated imo. Cody however, I think is the biggest loss they've ever had. He legitimately moved the dial and there was a noticeable drop when he left. (Punk moved the dial too but it's not really losing someone when you fire them). WWE will make Pillman a star tbh and Cody/Punk were big losses. The firing of Punk was just crazy.

I'll believe it when I see it. Hopefully he'll improve but he was super mid in aew and super mid in mlw. Granted by his own admission his lifestyle choices were not exactly awesome during these periods so maybe if he keeps his head on straight it'll work out.

Still can’t believe AEW lost Punk, Cody, Jade, Pillman etc CM Punk going back to WWE is more of a shock than AEW losing CM Punk. He always acted like he had FU money and was taking any shot any time because he would never have to deal with it again. That wasn't CM Punk saying those things to set up future angles, it was Phil Brooks hating the people and company he worked for. I thought seeing him in the ring on Raw talking about "being home" was major cringe. If everything worked out in AEW he's still be there hating WWE. It however is DEFINITELY unbelievable that Tony Khan was able to draw Punk out of "retirement" and then manage to lose him. Pure Amateur hour from Tony. I think Cody planned on leaving when he made it a stipulation against (can't remember?) that if he loses he will never challenge for the AEW World Title again and then lost. He always talked about his first WORLD TITLE and when he saw that he didn't want to stick around AEW I think he wanted to make sure his first World Title wasn't going to be theirs. It's not so much that I can't believe AEW lost him, it's that they lost him so fast. In the beginning it really seemed like he wanted to "take on the establishment." I was really surprised at how quickly that mentality changed and he went back to work for it instead. Jade in the long run is no loss. Hearing her in interviews after she left it's clear she has no interest in the wrestling business. She wants to get into Hollywood and is using wrestling to get there. She went to WWE to get more attention and eyes on her, which she definitely will. When she gets the chance she'll be gone. She will 100% become a better wrestler in WWE, but I think she'll only be there for as long as she has to be. It seemed like Tony Khan created a second Women's Title just to give her to roll with her streak. Now she's gone and there is no point in having 2 belts (not that it made sense when she was there either). Pillman is less of a loss than Jade. There are SO MANY GUYS who don't get enough screen time and Jr is at the bottom of the list. Ultimately I think the craziest thing is that Cody and Punk left AEW and will both (likely) be main eventing WrestlemMania. By then they might even have Jade in the women's main event picture as well. It's a horrible look if you're AEW and Tony Khan.

Punk isn't a loss in terms of roster. Just a loss in ratings. Cody isn't a roster loss either, as they storylined him to never be able to go for the AEW title. Fans were never really behind him IMO. Jade and Pillman are zero loss.
Now, they ever lose MJF, Omega, Orange Cassidy, Darby, The Bucks, or Starks to WWE? That would be massive.

I'd say getting fired was another shocker. Tony Khan is the man for signing Punk but he also is foolish for firing Punk as well lol. Cody leaving shocked me big time since I thought he was winning the AEW World Title eventually despite the stipulation. The guy helped create AEW but didn't win the big one while Jericho & Omega did... strange stuff. I thought Jade was also gonna be in AEW for a longer time tbh. She'll be a big star in WWE for sure. Pillman could have had a decent run in AEW but hopefully he improves in WWE. And yes, the fact that Cody/Punk/Jade will be in the main events of many future WMs is just crazy... not a good look for AEW since all these names could have really helped improve Tony Khans company in the long run.

Jade and Pillman are zero loss. Now, they ever lose MJF, Omega, Orange Cassidy, Darby, The Bucks, or Starks to WWE? That would be massive. Punk could have continued helping AEW with their viewership, PPV buy rates, attendances, social media numbers etc. Cody could have been their main star tbh for many years & Jade/Pillman could have been decent enough. All those other guys you mentioned will most likely stay in AEW, but if they leave, then it'll be major loses.

By then they might even have Jade in the women's main event picture as well. It's a horrible look if you're AEW and Tony Khan. I'm actually of the opposite mindset on multiple levels. It seems so obvious big AEW stars won't lack any shine in WWE, and not because each talent demonstrated their strengths or proved their worth. World titles, main events, HOF inductions, recognition of their family's accomplishments, all of it happily forked over because of their resumes and only that. Punk's knocks weren't out of line with what AEW typically airs and were 100% completely workable into future angles. Much more so than what he regularly received, people stealing his moves, envoking his name unprompted, bringing bs up from some years ago that coincided with dirtsheet gossip and already tumultuous feels from the crowd, bringing in useless bodies just because Punk had "heat" with them. If Punk truly didn't wanna be there, he could've kicked back after August 2022 and earned the buttload of guaranteed money we all know he signed with, and wouldn't have bothered reaching out repeatedly to hit brick walls every single time. Seeing as he won "world titles" in other promotions before AEW, Cody did see it more influential than the old busted ROH and NWA. Cody did the stip immediately at Full Gear 2019 against Jericho so there is a tiny bit of hope that he meant for his first "true" title run to be independent of his EVP status. But Cody did take on more of a snake oil salesman vibe the longer he resisted a heel turn, how he kept insisting on angles that the audiences weren't accepting, and eventually refused to see or acknowledge the advantages AEW brought him and insisted the fans and the company owed him more. Embracing what the fans were directing was a completely viable path for Cody but doing things his way became much more important, and was led to believe WWE would provide that, truly the most shocking development of all especially with his history.

I truly think it’s a loss for both aew and punk.
AEW lost their biggest name, Punk returned to a company that is akin to an abusive former lover. personally, I resent a company more from intentional neglect than just inadequacy.
it’s a total shame that tony didn’t get a grip on things when it was still possible to.
Pillman isn’t a loss.

Cody should have been AEW Champ Definitely, and might as well have instead of giving himself the Zinc Saucier title, which he just made up and comes with double prize money. I am sure the audience would've been mature enough to understand if he expressed while the AEW World Championship meant the world to him, he still felt a desire to right the wrong some other promotion had done to his father back in the day. (Aside: at the mentioning of sucking up to a former employer, let's point out Codester daring to say with a straight face how polka dots and doing jobs wasn't a rib, but a fun little reprieve from working the main event scene for Dusty.) As I said, there is a sliver of hope Cody didn't want his status to taint a title run. However, it could also be he feared fans rejecting him for giving himself the title. His mind is a bag of cats.
