Because I have zero emotional connection to them when they’re just having long drawn out fake fights with no reason for me to care. This is where this type of wrestling gets the cirque de soleil/gymnastics comparison. Without an emotional connection it’s just an ooh ahh spectacle, and that’s if they’re doing exciting moves in said exhibition. Otherwise if it’s fake grappling with no story I might as well watch another tv show or movie because Excalibur and Taz trying to sell me on whatever being so excruciating or Nigel saying everything is precarious is boring. Sorry, but a lot of people also feel this way. This has become such a weird niche hobby that accepts anything and everything because it makes sense only in the wrestling bubble and not the logical world. Hey, man, to each their own. If I wanted to watch a gripping drama or watch some comedy I'd watch another TV show. Thankfully, both you and I can find what we're looking for in terms of wrestling with AEW and the E. it’s not a smart move. name one American wrestling company that wasn’t storyline driven that had any success

I still don't understand this narrative that AEW doesn't tell stories.
In about 10 seconds of brain effort I came up with: Toni/Mariah, Skye/Julia, MJF/Devil, MJF/Hangman has been a story from day 1 that's getting returned to, Edge/Christian, Miro/CJ/Andrade/Everyone Miro murdered on the way to her signing Andrade, Wardlow/MJF reviving their history (Potentially tied in with the devil thing), Roderick Strong/My Sanity, Christians patriarchy/Fatherless individuals (My GOD the promo's he could roast me with if I was a wrestler. If he ever does cameos mine is going to be so morbidly heelish). Like yeah there's the insane random matches too, but if we want to name a successful American wrestling company that combined some storyline driven feuds along with just insane random matches, WCW before they crapped on their shoes.

Oh they tell stories but they put wrestling first, stories second. Opposite at the E. And the latter is more profitable. AEW is more of a JCP/NWA era promotion on steroids. That's what I grew up on. I never watched WWF as a kid which is why I probably rub a lot of you the wrong way.

I never watched WWF as a kid which is why I probably rub a lot of you the wrong way. I mean, you don't rub me the wrong way. I've always disagreed with you on women's wrestling (and, to be clear, I'm well aware the majority of American females are well below the standard of the japanese women. But, I'm ok with that in the short term because you need people to look up to as a kid and it's an investment for future generations to catch up. I coach a record low 85% female athletes, usually over 90%, and I'm so happy I'm in a sport where they have relatively true equality, because the majority of them blow the boys out of the water talent wise) but beyond that I feel like we have pretty similar preferences. I definitely have a much higher tolerance/enjoyment of stuff that isn't my exact preference, but on the whole that's the type of wrestling I enjoy the most. I watched WWF/WCW as a kid, it was also all I had access to. I always bought old tapes at garage sales, etc, and stumbled upon a few old AWA, NWA tapes etc which I loved. I watch an old black and white match every week or two from the chicago film archives for fun. I much preferred WWF/WCW 85-92 over anything else because the in ring was the main part of the show. I couldn't watch attitude era raw and it straight up killed wrestling for me. I wanted to watch people wrestle, not a soap opera. I know you and I are in the minority there, and that's ok. There's room for us in the market. The bolded part is exactly what I love about AEW. (Most of the time, they kinda strayed from this post all in until C2, but thankfully they're course correcting). The "story" can often exist within the match. As one of my favourite examples, Hangman lost to Jericho at the original All Out, after failing to pin him with the deadeye. With maaaaybe 1 exception (and I'm not even confident there is one), he didn't win a single match with the deadeye until after he won the title and got the full confidence back. He won everything with the Buckshot. He also was the "finisher" in the team of him and Kenny (Seriously y'all, go back and watch. Almost every tag match they had was won with the buckshot, including the titles and the one against the Bucks), which was setting him up for years to take the title from Kenny. That's a story. There were a ton of other elements and things at play, but his lack of confidence in the deadeye was clear and a huge part of the story.

Give Samoa Joe the World Title until MJF gets back from injury to regain it

Going to Dynamite tomorrow! Was hoping to see Edge and Christian, but it doesn't look like they're listed on the card.

MJF did an SI interview and he confirmed his contract is up 1/1 and he hasn’t resigned and didn’t want to sign another contract until his was up. He did say he wants to stay with AEW and be the face of the company, but he wasn’t going to resign until he was free from his current contract.

He is also the king of kay fabe so who knows aside from him and Tony. I personally hope he stays. Also I can't imagine Tony dragging out the devil storyline right to worlds end then a few days later his top guy is out of the company. Then what..... whoever the devil is feuds with Samoa Joe? If it is Adam cole and he really is hurt then what.... the devil's minions feud with joe?. I really hope Tony thought all of this through. Lol

Any MJF contract discussions are 110% a work.

I am wondering to those who say AEW is lacking story especially right now during the C2 tournament -- do those people watch other sports?
The story is the competition. Its been building the entire time and now we head into the final days of the tournament with tons of questions.
If Rush and Mox win, its a 3 way tie for 2nd place with Swerve, White, and Rush. If Mox and Swerve win on tomorrow's Dynamite, we are locked into a Swerve Vs Mox finals rematch. If Rush and Jay White win, Swerve is eliminated AND Rush is eliminated so White and Mox go into an immediate rematch next week in the finals. If Jay White and Swerve win, its a 3 way tie between Switchblade, Swerve, and Mox.
Its the reason that the end of the season in any sport is the most exciting when laying out playoff seeding. Each match will have an outcome that uniquely affects the rest of the standings.

They won't entertain any other options.

For what it’s worth Nick Haussmann said WWE reps told him that MJF signed a five year deal with AEW in Sept 2022 and he is under contract til 2027.

When wrestling is good it’s great, when it’s bad it’s awful and AEW is in a bad phase. It’s ok to admit that. WWE 2019 was awful as well. Things don’t have to be mutually exclusive or whatever…

For what it’s worth Nick Haussmann said WWE reps told him that MJF signed a five year deal with AEW in Sept 2022 and he is under contract til 2027. These are the exact details I've heard from three different non typical dirt sheet sources that have actually been right about things in the past.

No one believes MJF is leaving anytime soon and there’s no reason he should. Man is getting John Cena booking and is being made the face of the company. I’m sure he’s getting paid too.

Thank God all this 2024 shtick MJF is doing will soon end. One of the most exhausted & played out tropes since it was first said. Now, shut your curly head up & focus on your own promotion.
