Mean Mark or Stunning Steve. Which one? In that order. Mean Mark = 1st choice. Stunning Steve = 2nd choice.

In that order. Mean Mark = 1st choice. Stunning Steve = 2nd choice. Brain only wants one vote so I guess he counts the first one?

Stunning Steve AustinWe all know Austin had a little run in the USWA but it was here in WCW where he would get his career in high gear. The Stunning one would make his debut during the Spring of 91 with him getting a strong push just weeks outta the gate by defeating Bobby Eaton for the TV Title on WorldWide. The feud would continue on into the Great American Bash that year in a scaffold match with Eaton/PN News defeating Austin/Terrance Taylor. Again I say about this match...An Abomination! That same Summer during the GAB tour he would come close to winning the US belt but in the end would lose to Sting. His reign as TV Champion would rage on though as that Fall he would defeat guys like Z-Man, Tracy Smothers in title matches. At Havoc that year he would defend against Dustin Rhodes which ended up in a draw. These two would be far done with each other thats for sure. Late that year he would officially be a member of new heel faction the Dangerous Alliance. This is when his career really got rolling. In early 92 he was still holding onto his TV Title but that would end that Spring where he lose it Barry Windham in a 2/3 falls match. He would regain it however just a month later. His 2nd reign here would be decent but not long as long as the 1st as he would lose it Ricky Steamboat on Clash 20 that September. Not long after this the Alliance would disband leaving the Stunning one his own for just a little bit. At Havoc that year he would team up with Dr Death to take on Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham for the Unified Tag Titles but in the end it was a draw.It was after this in which he would form the Hollywood Blonds with Brian Pillman(Check out their entry on page 48!) The team would eventually have a falling out during the Fall of 93 with them briefly feuding. He would close out the year by winning the by defeating old foe Dustin Rhodes for US belt at Starrcade in a 2/3 falls match. Excellent stuff here. 94 would be the last good year for ol' Stunning Steve. He would great matches for the belt with Muta/Johnny B. Badd at Spring Stampede/Slamboree respectively. That Summer he would enter a feud with Ricky Steamboat which in the end would be the Dragons last hurrah. After the awesome match they had at BATB, Dragon would win the belt later that Summer with a rematch planned for Fall Brawl but Ricky had to forfeit due to injury which would be his end. From there Austin would get the belt back but would lose in less then a minute to Jim Duggan. This still ticks me off.He would try a few more times to get win it back but in the end would fail. He would get injured after this with him taking some time off but would return in 95 but would do nothing of note. His last notable thing he did was try his hand in the vacant US Title tourny but would lose to Randy Savage in the quarter finals. He would fired by Eric Bischoff not long after that via Fed Ex. Overall...Hell of a run here. His matches with Rhodes,Steamboat,Muta etc were fantastic. Him jobbing to Duggan in seconds was the end though sadly. Still though the majority of his WCW tenure here is where its at. You could see mega star written all over em. What are your memories/thoughts of Stunning Steve? Share them below!

WCW wasn’t available in the region I lived but would catch the occasional show at my granny’s. I remember seeing the Blond’s on a couple of shows and they were always entertaining.
I used to buy a magazine that covered all American wrestling and they would always say that Stunning Steve would be the future of wrestling and man were they right about that.
Think my Saturday night viewing will be watching his match with Muta, sounds a good one.
And yes, Steve as champ jobbing to anyone in 35 seconds is nonsense but to an over the hill Duggan is just plain wrong.
Was the scaffold match he was involved in the one where they had to capture each other’s flags?
Great write up.

The Brain I thought that theme song was only used when Stunning Steve was in the Hollywood Blondes.

I sometimes ponder what WCW would have been minus Hogan and friends coming in mid-94. A Flair-Austin feud back then would have been great to see.

Possible. Under the Biscoff regime business had been improving before Hogan. Not sure if Turner gives them a Monday show without the star power.
