HakuEarly in his career he was known as the King Tonga but it wasnt till 1987 when he formed a team with Tama in which he was called Haku. They were known as the Islanders. At first they were babyfaces but before long they would turn heel and join the best manager of all time in Bobby Heenan. Smart move right there. The big feud during this run here was against the Bulldogs in which Bobby would steal their beloved dog Matilda. The feud would culminate at WM IV in which they would defeat the Bulldogs and Koko in a 6 man bout. Again Bobby and his brilliant attire here-gold.Following Mania Tama would be released with Haku then being taken off TV until the Summer in which he would start a new chapter in his career here. Harley Race would suffer a serious injury on SNME that Spring against Hogan which resulted in Bobby having to find a new King and with that King Haku was born. Right outta the shoot he would get a strong push with him destroying jobbers on Superstars/Challenge with his devastating side kick.He would also be on team Twin Towers at SSeries that year in which he would be the last man on his team to be eliminated.By early 89, the former King Harley Race would proclaim he wants his throne back and with that the battle was set for the Rumble that year in Houston. After a physical match, Haku would supreme and officially set him as the undisputed King. His next big match would happen at WM V in which he would face former Heenan Family member Hercules but in the end would come up short. His reign on the throne would come to an end that Spring as he would lose to Jim Duggan of all people. They would tease him trying to reclaim it but nothing ever came of it. Following this stint he would mostly be just there basically. It wasnt till the Fall when he formed a team with Andre known as the Colossal Connection(check out there entry page 71 )that he got back in the spotlight. After that team ended again he was just a body on TV with his main role being a heavy for Bobby in his feud with the Boss Man that Fall.By 1991 he was slowly being phased out with his last big match being teamed with Barbarian against the Rockers at Mania VII.Very fun match here. His last WWF appearance would come at the Rumble 92 in which he would have a short stay before being eliminated by the British Bulldog. He would leave shortly after this where he would have short stints in both Japan and Mexico still as Haku. It would 9 years for him to return to the WWF as Haku as in early 2001 at the Rumble he would make his make big comeback. He was in full Meng attire as he just left WCW but man it was a cool surprise to see em back on WWF TV. Only notable during this brief comeback was teaming with Rikishi with them feuding with Kane/Taker for a short time. He would be taken off TV by the Summer and would be gone by early 2002 Overall...Always a big Haku fan. Dude was a badass in the ring and outta the ring. And man that kick of his...Damn did it look impressive as hell. What are your memories/thoughts of Haku? Share them below!

Even though Haku wasn't a main eventer as a singles, it's easy to forget he was part of 3 tag teams in his WWF run.

Wait...I know Sam Fatu was The Tonga Kid, but did Haku also use the name? Yeah my memory was a bit off. Haku went by ''King Tonga''. I knew he had Tonga in his name but forgot the first part. Hey getting old sucks

Wait...I know Sam Fatu was The Tonga Kid, but did Haku also use the name? I can also see where people would get Samu Fatu/Tonga Kid/Tama mixed up with Samu from the Headshrinkers.

I marked out big when Haku returned, came out to the Headshrinkers theme (minus the shrieking sounds in the beginning) and even Jim Ross seemed surprised. Jakks made a prototype of a figure of him for the 2001 line but it was scrapped when he was let go. That was my R&B Greg Valentine Hasbro, it was the one I was always hoping to find. Haku was a real trooper to take loss after loss in WWF from like 1989 to 1991 when he probably could have killed anyone there.

Did jakks end up making a 2001 Haku in their classic superstars line or am I imagining things? It was more of a 1995 Meng between his run as Parker bodyguard and before working with Dungeon of Doom. Not sure if it was billed as Meng or Haku. They also made a King Haku but his crown was red as opposed to purple. Haku should have gotten a hasbro but the LJN was pretty awesome. I love the purple King colors but the Islander coloring was even better. The Rick Rude LJN (despite the pose) was even better than the prototype (rare) since it had so much cool coloring. I know in 1991 Hasbro was still working on the bigger stars so Haku wouldn't have been made and by 1992 he really wasn't doing much a year earlier in 1991.
