Soooooo long. Matched with how terribly the network was running for me until I switched to the PS4 it felt like an eternity. Every WWE show is nauseatingly overproduced. Way too many recaps, way too much filler. Now for the takeaways:
Asuka vs Becky was great. I love Becky, I love Asuka, and the setup for later was perfect. Asuka needed this last few months after the past year of terrible booking/not knowing what to do with her. She also manages being unable to speak English unlike Nakamura. Intensity is a universal language.
SD tag I skipped. Sick of the Bar, not interested in MizMahon. It made up for some of the early buffer issues I experienced through the app. Seriously like every 5-10 secs it would stick. Women's RR was decent. Much better than the men's. This was my first view of Lacey Evans. I'm not sure I see the appeal yet. Mediocre promo, numerous small botches. She's into the character, but she's clearly being positioned highly. I'll have to wait and see where it goes before I pass judgment. I'll say the women's Rumble did a better job of capitalizing on character issues and taking advantage of them then the men's in telling the story of the match. I'd probably have put this after AJ/Bryan and before Balor/Brock.
Bryan/AJ I found a little slow, and with a weird ending. I know Harper is recovering from surgery, but they better not screw Harper over again with this by splitting the BBs with no explanation and leaving Harper with nothing to do, or worse yet putting him back with Wyatt.
Brock/Balor was pretty good. Nice job using the diverticulitis as a means of making Brock look vulnerable. It was clear from the start that Brock is going to Wrestlemania so Balor never stood a chance. Announcing that he wouldn't be the Demon didn't help, as unless I'm mistaken the Demon has never lost. This would've been a perfect opportunity to do Beast vs Demon, but there was no way Brock was losing.
Men's Rumble was the correct match to go on last. Too bad there was so much crap. Jarrett was looking like a mini Bastion Booger in that outfit, and the hat without the hair looked really weird. I kind of expected Black in the match, and could see him on the main roster soon. Dunne was a very pleasant surprise. Both looked great! I was surprised the Lars wasn't in. I thought for sure they had played us to have him in the final 4....but the surprise was Dolph....again. Nia was unexpected. Having her eat all the finishes was very satisfying. Ambrose with the Wrestlemania 2 Neidhart elimination. Unless Ambrose is working with Black that match did nothing for Ambrose. As soon as Braun was taken out of the match with Brock I knew he'd be in the rumble.
I could see Seth facing Bryan and Brock getting these hands at Wrestlemania. Ronda/Becky is the main event. Maybe EC will be the 8 woman?
And what's with the free for all Rumble rules. If you land on your back you should be out. And even though it worked for Becky you shouldn't just be able to attack someone and enter the match.

Funny how this show would of been so much better if it didn’t have either rumble matches. And a bonus the crowd wouldn’t of been burned out for aj/Bryan which may have turned into a better match.

lmao Becky hasn't lost much lately. Also can we stop bitching about the Women wrestling? they have the right to wrestle and put on better matches than the men. It was literally half the show of a big 4 ppv. Just give them their own ppv and everyone would be happy. This show would of been unwatchable without the women on it.

Thank you to all who reached out to me saying that my rules that I have lobbied for would have made both Rumbles much better. To those who differed in opinion to the point of threatening violence I forgive you but please do some self reflection.

So, I had to watch most of the show with the audio turned low because fiancee was trying to sleep while sick. Was the AJ/Bryan match bad? I thought it was well paced and exciting. Was it getting boring chants or something? I didn't hear boring chants. Heck I didn't hear much of anything. The crowd was just dead during that match because after 3 hours of action that included an exciting women's Royal Rumble match, it burns you out. These shows are way too long. I'm going to wrestlemania, is that show going to last 6 hours? I mean the main show, I don't count pre-show. The main portion of this show was 5 long hours! While waiting for any response, I rewatched at work. No chants. But crowd was dead. It was a cool down match that was hard hitting. I enjoyed it just as much the second time--moreso since I knew the ending and didn't have a pit in my stomach while watching.

Way tooo much Women’s Wrestling.....By the time the men’s rumble got started I wa soo burnt out that it ruined the rumble for me. Other than that I though the show wasn’t bad. On a side note, Becky Lynch is the Elias of the Women’s Division, cuts a good promo and you want to cheer for them but they lose way more than they win. lmao Becky hasn't lost much lately. Also can we stop bitching about the Women wrestling? they have the right to wrestle and put on better matches than the men. there is nothing wrong with people not enjoying women wrestling. just like there is nothing wrong with you enjoying it. i think what people need to remember is that the wwe clearly invests huge amounts of time and effort into the women’s matches. they’re planned almost move for move, there’s nothing really being called out there. the actual execution of the matches is often sloppy and at times dangerous. those women’s matches, while excellently pulled off by the women, are more of a success on the agents’ parts than anything imo. some of the most well written matches I’ve seen.

I'm all for the women getting a shot and all that, but too much time is being devoted to the women right now. Most of their matches are botchfests, and its incredibly hard for me to sit through most of them. I think it has to do with the size of the rings. I think with smaller rings, botches would be less frequent.

Show was decent, just super long. It's hard to focus on ANYTHING or sit for that long. I think everything went pretty much as expected. I'd have had McIntyre win the Royal Rumble just because I think he's a more (kayfabe) serious threat to Brock just based on how big he is. I didn't realize how big Drew was until he stood next to Strowman a few months ago, and I was shocked. Put him in there with Brock and I'd definitely believe it more than Seth, but I get it if they feel like Drew isn't ready. I don't see them putting the Universal Title on Rollins at WrestleMania, anyway. They'll probably wait until SummerSlam and have McIntyre win it. He'll be ready for sure by the end of August. Brock's not keeping it that long again. And if he does, then the Universal Title needs retired. It's been nothing but a prop for Lesnar. People want shock. People want the unthinkable. Seth winning the belt writes itself. 2 years ago, he slayed a King. Now, the Kingslayer returns to the grandest stage of them all to slay a Beast. But the thing is, Seth winning wasn't unthinkable, it wasn't unpredictable. Everyone knew going in he had the biggest chance of winning. It's been reported for months now.

And how often are dirtsheets right? How often does Vince change plans just to stick to the sheets? A. LOT. There was also numerous reports that Drew would win. And then I also saw something yesterday that said Braun would win to "earn" his taken away title match. So that Seth actually won, and eliminated Braun to do it, that wasn't easily predictable. No one has "the biggest chance" of winning anything until a specific match is over. You don't know what's going on in Vince's head, no one does.

Lots of people, myself included, think that the Rumble (and most PPVs) are too long. it showed last night when the Women's Rumble ended with a crowd pleasing pop that came at about the point an old PPV or even a current NXT Takeover event would have finished. Daniel Bryan vs AJ Styles got little to no reaction at least partially because the crowd was burnt out just halfway through the show. It didn't help that AJ and Daniel had a slow methodical brawl more befitting Triple H vs Undertaker than two of the most athletic and cardio capable guys on the roster that we know can work a faster pace but whatever. They were fighting an uphill battle no matter what because of an exhausted crowd.
It doesn't look like the WWE is going to change the length of PPVs so I have a suggestion for them. Look at what NJPW does with their four hour shows. They basically book two 2 hour shows with a main event in each half and have a fifteen minute intermission in the middle to let the crowd hit the reset button. Imagine if the Rumble event was the same length but there had been an intermission after Becky won the Women's Royal Rumble. Everybody gets to step away after the hot finish and recuperate for the rest of the show. Fans need rest time during a five hour show as much as wrestlers do during an intense 30 minute match. An intermission is the fans rest hold.
Alternately, as much as I am not a fan of goof ball backstage segments I have to admit that a short comedic sketch placed between the Women's Rumble and AJ/Bryan would have provided at least some sort of cool down and reset for the fans. I'll never complain about Mick Foley leading a backstage food fight or Brodus Clay & his dancing mommas again because people who loved it could watch and those who didn't could use that time as a much needed break from the wrestling.

Once. Just once... I'd like to see no pointing at the freaking Wrestlemania sign.

I love Gargano got in, but I would have changed them out with different NXT guys.
1. Ricochet for No Way Jose 2. Velveteen Dream for Johnny Gargano 3. EC3 for Curt Hawkins 4. Matt Riddle for Shelton Benjamin
If they would have had those guys in the Rumble instead, you are introducing your next MEGA-STARS to the audience and giving them a taste early. By doing this you also put eyes on NXT. I'm sorry but Johnny Wrestling and Pete Dunne are bound for 205 Live, not the main roster. So why not give them the rub and early recognition.
That stadium would have exploded if Velveteen Dream or Ricochet would have come out.

Watching this last night was a lot of fun, a friend wound up coming through to watch with me about half way through the PPV so that was nice. The rumble is always great and this year was no exception.

That is weird EC3 and Dream weren't in the Rumble. With them on the main roster (or seemingly close in Dream's case) that would have served a decent chance to introduce them to the broader audience.
