PPV/Supercard Talk #1: Starrcade'83
1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best): 2
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: Being that I didn't watch this event until probably 2011 maybe, I was most excited to see Steamboat/Youngblood vs. Brisco Brothers.
3) What did you like most about this event?: I liked that it brought a few different territories together under one roof for a big show
4) What did hate most about this event?: Gordon Solie. I always thought he was horrible, even though he gets praised as the best.
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: If Dusty Rhodes wrestled on it. Not sure why he didn't. He was there for an interview, but didn't have a match at all.
a) best match: Steamboat/Youngblood vs. Brisco Brothers
b) worst match: Ric Flair vs. Harley Race - the build up for it was great (from what I seen on the Ric Flair DVD that came out in 2003) but I felt the match just didn't deliver.
c) fav match: Piper vs. Valentine, I guess
**Final Thoughts**: I get that this was the first big show - even before Wrestlemania - but I feel it just doesn't hold up for today's standards. I am sure if I was in my teens back in 1983, and watched NWA Mid Atlantic Wrestling, that I would be all excited for this event. But it is a 'must see' event just to say that you did see it.

hbkbdc, yea wrestling wasnt as big yet, but only starrcade84 next, then we are into '85 already with wrestlemania, wrestling classic, starrcade, great american bash & awa superclash 1. im going in order! by next year we should be into 50+ events! I love this one too, like my 20 questions thread and dudes best/worst of a year threads (im taking those over for him after he does 1996). we get to talk about a certain wrestler, a certain event & a certain year. ive watch more wrestling last month and a half or so than last couple years. these threads get me pumped about it again.  |

PPV/Supercard Talk #1: Starrcade'83

3) What did you like most about this event?: Seeing some real old school wrasslin' ,and some wrestlers I never saw before (or since)
4) What did hate most about this event?: Most of it felt like a glorified House Show
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: Better production values
a) best match: Piper vs Valentine
b) worst match: The Tag Match with Kevin Sullivan
c) fav match: Brisco's vs Steamboat and Youngblood
**Final Thoughts**: It was ...okay. For such a hyped event, and the first ever SuperCard, it was woefully average for the most part. And the main event, I'm sorry, it stunk. a boring, plodding affair that lasted WAY too long and the finish was kinda weak considering the hotness of the feud.

Honestly from what I remember (or don’t remember) it really wasn’t that hyped. I think I heard about it after the facts during one of their Saturday night shows and wrest magazines

Piper vs Valentine Dog Collar Match.
4) What did hate most about this event?:
That it wasn’t broadcast anywhere around me.

If it was aired in NJ on our cable network

I honestly don’t remember most of the first half the card, but I guess it was the tag match with the Assassin’s. I forget who they wrestled so clearly it wasn’t very memorable for me.

Piper vs Valentine
**Final Thoughts**
This wasn’t a PPV, but a Close Circut TV so it wasn’t available in the North East (NJ) so I didn’t see it until years later. I knew about it via magazines and newspaper results.

I don't think I ever saw the entire starcade 83 card. Just a select few of matches that were on wwe compilation dvds. So I won't fill this one out, but am looking forward to future ppv/supercard talks. If I saw it I will answer the questions. Out of all the matches that I did see from this show, Piper vs Valentine was my favorite. The Flair vs Race cage match was good, but a little plodding.

Starrcade 84

2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?:Flair/Rhodes for the build it got
3) What did you like most about this event?:Tully/Steamboat. Best match on the card by far in my book
4) What did hate most about this event?:Too many bland/boring matches.

a) best match:Tully/Steamboat for TV Title
b) worst match:Brian Adias vs Mr Ito
c) fav match:Tully/Steamboat
**Final Thoughts**: Very weak Starrcade here. Rhodes/Flair for the great build it had was a terrible match IMO with a bad ending.
Starrcade 1985
1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best): 4
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?:Dusty/Flair and Tully/Magunum
3) What did you like most about this event?:Definitely the I Quit match. Must see match for old school fans and fans wanting to get into old school.
4) What did hate most about this event?:Miss Atlanta Lively! plus the 2 locations(Greensboro and ATL). I can see why they did it but still I was never a fan.WM II made it worse with 3.
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: Midnights in a more meaningful tag match.
a) best match:Tully/Magnum in I Quit
b) worst match:Miss Atlanta Lively and Jimmy Valiant vs The Midnights( uggggghhhhhh terrible)
c) fav match:Tully/Magnum
**Final Thoughts**: This event definitely has it's flaws but overall it's still a decent Starrcade. The I quit and NWA Tag Title matches being the standouts to me. Dusty/Flair was decent but again the ending wasn't the greatest. Still way better than their match a year prior though.

PPV/Supercard Talk #1: Starrcade'85
1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best):
I would give it a solid 4. Really the only unbearable match on the card was Garvin dressing up as Miss Atlanta Lively.
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: Magnum TA vs Tully Blanchard “I Quit” Cage Match. After that it was Dusty vs Flair.
3) What did you like most about this event?:
the “I Quit” Match followed by Minnesota Wrecking Crew vs Wahoo and Billy Jack. Then Dusty vs Flair.
4) What did hate most about this event?:
I hated the Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant, but what I didn’t like more than him being in the card was him tagging with Garvin dresses in drag.
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?:
Better opponents for the Midnight Express
a) best match:
Magnum vs Tully to me it’s still the best “I Quit” Match I have ever seen.
b) worst match:
Valiant and Garvin vs Midnight Express.
c) fav match:
Magnum vs Tully
**Final Thoughts**:
I felt the “I Quit” Match was worth the price of the admission. And the same could be said for Flair vs Rhodes. I am sure people will say that it was boring, but it was entertaining for the time/era it was held.

2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: Nothing, since I had no clue as to what matches were even on it when I finally watched it... that being back in like 2011 maybe??
3) What did you like most about this event?: I thought it looked a bit brighter than the previous year
4) What did hate most about this event?: That again, a lot of matches on it just didn't seem worthy of a big time show
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: I honestly have no idea
a) best match: Steamboat vs. Blanchard
b) worst match: McDaniel vs. Graham was on this one if I remember correctly.... I remember not really enjoying it
c) fav match: Steamboat vs. Blanchard
**Final Thoughts**: I feel like this Starrcade gets easily forgotten compared to 83 and 85. I don't really remember any matches on this show, and I watched it before too. Rhodes vs. Flair was the big selling point, I do remember that. But it had a crap finish I believe.
PPV/Supercard Talk #1: Starrcade'85
1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best): 3
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: Again, being that I just watched it like 8 years ago or so for the first time ever, I had no real excitement for anything since I only knew of like a few matches
3) What did you like most about this event?: I thought it was cool that they did it from two venues
4) What did hate most about this event?: Some of the under card was questionable
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: I can't think of anything
a) best match: Blanchard vs. Magnum
b) worst match: I can't think of any, I am sure some under card match sucked
c) fav match: Rock N Roll Express vs. The Russians
**Final Thoughts**: It was pretty neat to think at this time frame for the NWA that they were able to pull off two separate venues for this, knowing that they had enough drawing power on each show for a main event. We get Magnum vs. Blanchard in a cage for one, and we get Rhodes vs. Flair in a rematch from the year before at the other. I did enjoy this Starrcade more than the two years prior to this, mainly because this is around the era where I knew of the wrestlers competing for the show and followed them either on NWA TV or from the wrestling magazines.
