This is one of those, "at least we got a figure of him" kind of deals. It can't be understated that injuries just kept him from being the guy he's capable of being.

I can't wait for the idiots on Twitter who say "KENTA should go back to New Japan!"

I'm a fan of his but it just never worked out for him in wwe. Glad wwe granted his release which I understand he requested. Should be interesting to see where he ends up.

I just like how reports are twisting this. Some say he's a lock for AEW. Some say its weird how Mike and Maria are tweeting their goodbyes to him given that they were denied releases (A story that was thoroughly debunked). It's shoddy "news" reporting.

so is that why his figure was taken out of the NXT lineup?

so is that why his figure was taken out of the NXT lineup? That happened before this news broke. I know Mattel had a helluva time trying to find a place for his figure, it has been in the works forever it seems like. At one point Itami was the 5th figure in the 4th wave which would have wreaked havoc with case breakdowns. Don't have a problem with it being moved back to Series 5, as long as we still get it.

Dam I want him vs Daniel Bryan You could always watch the Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA match from ROH. I mean, it's not Daniel Bryan vs. Hideo Itami, but it was a pretty solid encounter. That was Bryan's favorite ROH match.

But regardless, I did catch this also.. and was like, "haha, oops." Then 20-30 minutes after 205 Live ended I read on Twitter about his release. Came as a shock. I don't think it was scripted though, I think it was just a slip. That said, is 205 actually Live like the name says? If so, I do wonder when the request for his release was made.

I think it is as "Live" as RAW and SDL are, no? and for a while, maybe it was just because of the MIXED/MATCH Challenge , but they no longer aired 205 Live "live" and right after SDL finished and it aired "pre-taped" the day after,

So the Live nature of the show and the ending of 205 Live makes me wonder when the release was requested.
Was the final moments a transfer of heat to Ariya because the request had already been made?
Was it leading to Ariya vs. Hideo and the request was made post 205 Live.
So many questions.

Yeah I have heard a few act like this was a victory for AEW. And that the mass exodus of WWE talent has begun. The thing is, for all we know, Itami is just ready to go home. He's had a few rough years due to injury and at 37 years old, he may just want to go back to Japan and travel less.

I still never get over the look on his face the night Nakamura left NXT to go to the main roster. The absolute look of hatred and disdain in his face was priceless I had to look that up to believe it, you're right. Everyone's all positive and little old Hideo emits burning anger inside while he claps.

Seriously how many times was he out on injury during his tenure in WWE?

Seriously how many times was he out on injury during his tenure in WWE? Thats a good assignment for somebody here if they have the free time to research it. I remember after Mr Kennedy got his release, somebody here counted the number of days he was on the disabled list, suspended for wellness policy violation or filming a movie over the number of days he was on the main roster (Aug 2005-May 2009) and he was out for 33% of that time.

Rey Mysterio comes to mind on being on the injured list frequently. His last run he was injured more than he wrestled.
