As the title says, I thought I'd try and get back into wrestling.
As a kid I was fortunate enough to grow up with the attitude and ruthless aggression eras. Now, I know things will never really be the same as they once were for so many reasons, and I'm not asking for those reasons, or how bad wrestling is now because that's a whole other topic. Really, just looking for some help on where to start up again, good story lines to look out for, if structure or PPVs have changed etc. so I can enjoy some good ole wrasslin'.
Thanks for your help!

Great things are happening in NXT. I would just jump in on the next episode and enjoy the ride. You won't be disappointed.

Watch NXT.
Go back and watch some recent Takeover shows. Every Takeover since the beginning of 2018 has been outstanding. The ones prior were all great/really good too, but it kind of kicked into another gear the last year-plus.

Okay, instantly two votes for NXT... What is that? And what's a "takeover"? I will have to look it up. It's like learning a new language.

Their own indie fed basically. It still is but it's thrown into its own brand as well. Take Over is their "PPV" that's held the day before major WWE PPVs. I recommend getting the Network if you don't have it and starting NXT from the first episode and going from there.

Though it's hardly developmental. More so a 3rd brand. There are a bunch of guys and gals who work at the WWE Performance Center that aren't featured on NXT, and that's really the developmental portion of things in my mind. And if you're thinking of OVW, NXT is nothing like that lol.

Then when you catch up to the point where the NXT people are called up to the "main" roster you can scream at the TV asking why the hell are they booking most of them like idiots! Trust me, you'd be better off going back to 2009.

Dont read spoilers, rumours I find add something even if they dont turn out to be true, dont be influenced by the negativity that surrounds pro-wrestling on forums, just enjoy the show. I've watched PPV's enjoyed them, come here after and seen the whole show slated.
Its a pretty interesting time to be into wrestling at the moment with AEW starting up and having such huge financial backing, WWE having historic low viewership, but also expanding NXT by adding NXT UK and forging something similar to the "territories" of old, but on a nation wide scale, NXT UK is pretty great (dont know if thats a biased opinion) And I'm hearing they're setting up a performance centre in the middle east. And plan to do the same in Latin America and Australia.

I’d agree on starting with NXT. It’s a one hour commitment a week and it’s awesome. And the Takeovers almost always deliver when those hit.
If you want to get into the main roster, I recommend watching Facebook clips and then just the monthly PPVs. I genuinely think WWE’s weekly main roster programming is a giant waste of 5 hours a week that you’ll never get back. On the off chance that something great happens, like Rey vs Almas, you can catch it on YouTube.

In terms of structure, nothing has really changed since about 1997. Except that at the moment, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey are pretty much bigger stars than any of the guys. The feuds between those three since last summer have all been really good, so watching anything between them is where I'd start.
Brock Lesnar's last two matches, against Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series and Finn Balor at Royal Rumble, were awesome. Rey Mysterio vs Almas from various episodes of SmackDown in the last few weeks have all been fantastic, too.
Daniel Bryan's current egomaniacal SJW/eco-warrior gimmick is great, so anything with him from November to now is gold.

WWE '13 did it for me. I'd been out for a long time, but I bought that game on account of the Attitude Era mode. Once I'd played it through, I found myself curious about some of the more modern names, and I began perusing the ones that stuck out to me. I've basically been back in ever since.
Absolutely check out NXT, but anyone telling you there isn't some merit to be found on the main rosters is lying.

I honestly feel there is something to enjoy on each brand. None are perfect, but none are as bad as people claim either. IMO wrestling has never been perfect. It's never been 100% how I wish it was. But there's plenty of good wrestling out there to watch.
The best advice I can give for anyone wanting to enjoy wrestling is... to stay away from online news and discussions in general. Don't get me wrong, online forums can be fun. And I love this place.
But hearing people complain about camera angles, making up "facts" so they can b***h in every thread, and the general loathing for a hobby they supposedly love will wear on you. And before you know it, you're just as angry and just as jaded.

it’s a great time to get back into wrestling. despite people’s feelings about the overall direction, a commonplace statement is that we currently have one of the most gifted rosters athletically than perhaps ever. that equates to a lot of really good matches happening monthly.
also the overall quality of wrestling has improved with the influx of experienced workers and less home farmed talent. so on certain levels, we’re seeing some of the best wrestling in wwe there has ever been. aj styles, rollins, Daniel Bryan, the list goes on.

The roster at the moment is as talented as any roster the WWF/WWE has ever had. And that is coming from someone who isn't exactly in love with the product of today.
Plenty of great matches although the creative is a mess unless you're a top-tier guy.
