All these years later, and there is something about the way that RA and DA figures sit in my hand. Mattel look really nice, but they just don’t sit as comfortably.
I think the compromise here is that the Jakks figures are all the same height, Mattel’s more realistic moulds prevent figures from having the same feel.

I agree completely. much prefer the unrealistic large look compared to the tiny more 'realistic' mold

I much prefer Mattel's although there are some Jakks figures which knock Mattel's out of the park!

Even to this day, some jakks molds had great articulation considering their stuff was pretty limited to begin with. I do hate DA though.

I'm not sure if I agree. I like Jakks figures for what they are (preferably BCAs over RAs) but what gets me is the looseness of the ball jointed shoulders that randomly occurs over time. It happened to my top figures like CS Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart and Mike Tyson.
But I understand what you mean especially if you have larger hands the bulk of the figures feel more sterdy.

I'm not a fan of the RA figures. TTL is where is was at. The figures they put out in 2000 are still incredible. In my opinion a perfect mix of likeness and playability.

All my Jakks figures are super squeaky now.

I put mine on display recently and it seems like the arm joints fail over time. I have several that are rattling around and a few that can’t even hold the arms up. My figures weren’t beat up at all just shocked on how time effected them.

They’ll always have a place in my heart as my childhood figures

While Mattel figures look much better, RA had far better playablity.
When I first saw RA figures I thought they looked ridiculously jacked in comparison to TTL figures, but I quickly warmed to them and loved them even more than TTL.

RA is more playable than Mattel basics, especially now that they have those pointless knees that are super stiff to move. Also, Jakks understood to have the stance a little apart at the feet. The joints seemed to move smoother on RA. Hey, but I do like both.

Jakks BCA = Great! Jakks TTL = Crap! Jakks R3 = Crap! Jakks RA = Great! Jakks DA = Great!
Also, I always felt that the Jakks RA and DA heads/face scans were better than Mattel.

I agree in many respects that Jakks headscans were superior when capturing likenesses. It was just a shame that my Rey Mysterio and Paul Bearer figures we're ALWAYS taller that Kane, Undertaker and sometimes Big Show!
That and when Jakks learned that WWE wasn't planning to renew their licensing contract, Jakks did the least professional thing by purposefully ruining and half-assing nearly every release of 2008. (Naked Mark Henry, Taker/HBK) In the end, it said more about Jakks and how they handle intellectual properties than anything else.

I still have my Jakks displayed but I don’t think their feel is any better than Mattel. I feel RA’ and Basics feel just as sturdy as each other, but I do feel Elites aren’t as wobbly as DA’s. While Mattel figures look much better, RA had far better playablity. When I first saw RA figures I thought they looked ridiculously jacked in comparison to TTL figures, but I quickly warmed to them and loved them even more than TTL. Maybe now that the Basics have dropped the ankle articulation, but before that I would say at the very least they would be equal in playability. Or give Mattel the slight edge because they were more articulated than Jakks RA’s with the cut joints at the top of the boots. Same with DA’s and Elites.

I feel like Mattel's figures can be quite stiff compared to RA, maybe it's just because I no longer play with figures, but whenever I mess around with them out of boredom while rearranging displays or whatever, they've felt pretty awkward to me.

I am just going by the look of the figures because I haven’t “played” with a figure since the ‘80’s. lol But to me they look like pretty much had the same articulation until Mattel got rid of the ankles. So I would think they played the same.

I don't blame them for anything released than say, a few months before the deal ended, they probably just wanted to make a quick and final buck with the molds whilst they had the chance, but they shouldn't have done it as far in advance as they did.
