One on one convos with the COMMISSIONER OF THE NFL is hardly the same as one on ones with the United States Government.
Wow.

The commissioner of the NFL has been trying to sweep this under the rug and belittle it as much as possible. I find the entire thing hilarious. He shoulda just handled it the right way the first time and investigated it to the death of it, rather than allowing the public and people in the NFL to feel as if it still needed further clarification or scrutiny. The NFL and the Patriots have acted irrational about this saying things like they couldn't pick Walsh out of a line of men and things of that nature when the guy was working directly with the Pats every day. The entire timeline shows nothing but a personal agenda focusing on taking care of themselves on the side of the league and the Patriots. I personally just think it's hilarious that there is so much uncertainty on the Pats and NFL side, and everytime they said it was over and done it comes back up again. They are the ones who seem hostile about it and helpless. If they just came out right away when it started and handled it the right way, maybe this wouldn't be spilling over TWO SEASONS. They have yet to come out with anything to exonerate the Patriots and... well... if this SHOULD go away, then just exonerate them and shut everybody up? I mean, how would the Pats feel if it came out that on the last play of the 2006 AFC Conf Championship game, the Colts were using stolen information to know what formation to run when they intercepted Brady's pass ending their season sending the Colts to a Championship? The downplay of the severity of this issue makes absolutely no sense. They got caught cheating... what more is there to it besides the fact that they got caught cheating? "Oh it wasn't that bad" "It didn't mean anything" "they are just a good team" No, they got caught cheating and a whole lot of people, including a lot of their peers, are pissed off. The people who throw any defense on the Patriots are defending a team who factually got caught cheating and has yet to have even a silver of innocence defended. The same team who people defend, isn't even defending themselves. They've apologized. Bill Belichick apologized to his ing bosses for crying out loud. I dunno about you but if I'm apologizing to my boss, I did something stupid or wrong.

Besides, it should be let go. I think the Pats have suffered enough considering people question the validity of their entire championship run. They will always have a black mark and it will never be certain if it was legit.
I always thought the reputation blow was the biggest punishment.

Easy to destroy one's rep......very hard to repair it.

I believe Scouts, Inc. puts it best. "We don't know for sure whether more tapes ever existed in New England, or how these tapes were broken down and used. But after reviewing the material released by the league, this much is clear: We saw nothing in that video that would allow us as a scouting department to provide a team with an unfair advantage over an opponent.Yes, preparation time was reduced and film study was streamlined, but not in a way that single-handedly turned the Patriots into one of the premier teams in the league. In the end, the Patriots' success comes down to having better players who make full use of the information provided to them. " The whole article: sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3394809

There is so much going on right now that should not have to do with the NFL and the Patriots, Arlen Spector needs to worry about the country and PA, and the rest of the sports world needs to focus on the NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs and now interleague play. Shut the up Arlen Spector.

Who gives a **** about rep when you are beating the **** out of teams year in and year out, and have won 3 titles and have the easiest schedule in the NFL next year Apparantly a lot of people do when they come to their defenses or remind everyone of their past accomplishments. Bottom line, there are a lot of people who don't take their championships as seriously. As somebody who has put their health on the line on a football field, I find it disgusting that people would even consider cheating another team for the sake of winning as opposed to playing the game with integrity. Who cares though, it's over and the Giants got their SuperBowl win, the Pats could go win 10 more titles in 10 years but the Giants still got them. One time is enough, especially since nobody is handing them Randy Moss.

Every sports team has done something illegal and you do not see US Senators going after them. Why isnt Spector going after the Niners for tampering or the Broncos for lying to the NFL about the cap?

Bottom line, there are a lot of people who don't take their championships as seriously. With no due respect to those people, they have no idea what they're talking about. People are just looking for reasons to justify the fact that their own team couldn't overcome the Patriots, who were just a flat-out better team... Again, my Cowboys included.

The fact of the matter is, everyone does it. Getting caught or not, people still do it. The subject needs to be dropped. Matt Walsh should be shot and Specter needs to give it up

Arlen Specter should investigate horse racing. Big Brown's trainers already admitted to pumping steroids in him. We need a senate judiciary committee to bring Big Brown to congress and Mr. Ed.

People are just looking for reasons to justify the fact that their own team couldn't overcome the Patriots, who were just a flat-out better team... Again, my Cowboys included. Tell it to Joey Porter and countless other NFL players or former players who have issues with it. I just heard Porter on NFL Live making a very good point... if the Patriots did nothing wrong, had nothing to hid and were completely innocent... then why were the tapes destroyed immediately without allowing anybody else to see them? They must have been that bad that they didn't want anybody to see them. He also said if guys like Tom Brady and the defense didn't gain an advantage from them then why did they do it every week? I just think the entire thing is a huge mess and had it been handled the right way back in Sept it wouldn't be a mess now. It all sucks for everybody involved.

Gooddell destroyed the tapes on his own, its not like the Patriots forced him to do it. Blame anyone, blame him for his decisions. I mean the Patriots were guilty, they were punished and thats what Goddell decided to do with the tapes and everything, so after the decision has been met, it has nothing to do with the Patriots

Na I agree with Ralpho. That's what I was saying, I wish it was handled better in the beginning.
It's kinda a let down after Goodell was so intent on cleaning up the league.
And there is no way EVERY team did, absolutely no way every team did it. That's like saying everybody cheats on their wife because it's convient for your arguement.
Sure there is probably a lot of shady stuff going down elsewhere but that's not the point here... at least from what I can gather.
I think people are pissed and targetting them so much because of how successful they were. They meant something, more than just one year, more than just some records broken. The Patriots had a run that was/is going to go down as possibly the greatest dynasty ever.
It's like Bill Clinton... in my opinion the greatest president we ever had. Sure it was a booming economy from post war state, but he was targetted for the BJ's with Monica Lewinsky because people wanna exploit a good job when it's not theirs.
