I am kind of new at figure customizing and to start out, I want just to do simple Jakks/Mattel head swaps. Almost every time that I try removing the head (either by dunking in very hot water or by using hair dryer), the peg comes off with the head after I pull it off the body. And then I can't put the peg back in the neck after removing it from the head. What am I doing wrong? Once the peg comes out of the body, the figure is ruined because I can't put it back in. I want to be able to pull the head off without the peg coming out as well. Any suggestions? Thanks

This happened to me once with a Stephanie McMahon figure I was practicing on. I wonder if you can use needle nose pliers to hold the peg while pulling the head??

Maybe it's not obvious, but when removing heads you don't have to heat up the whole figure. Just dunk the head in the boiling water for 2 minutes or whatever. Grip the neck to clamp the area together and yank on the head, it should pop off easy. Do all Jakks have the double balls for the neck? Someone sent me Jakks heads to sculpt on and they all had the double balls still attached, maybe they had the same problem as you lol
Don't know how Jakks are built, but I'm guessing you have to pry the body apart a little to force the ball back in there.

I’m new to this too, and have experienced the sane as you. But it is easy enough to resolve:
1. Put the head (if peg is still attached) I to boiling water for a minute or 2. 2. Remove with tongs & dry with cloth 3. Hold head & pry out peg with long nose pliers (I used scissors as I had them to hand but they offer much more risk obviously so use pliers instead) 4. Heat neck/shoulder area of torso in boiling water, use a bit of force to push peg back into body.
Then to prevent from having to do all this next time, heat the head/neck/shoulders in boiling water as usual but instead of pulling head straight off, try putting your thumb under the chin and kind of lifting it backwards. I’ve found this to work well so far.
