I wrote this text for the Vegas Con thread but I thought it would be better as a separate topic, so here we go.
This whole exclusive madness that's going on right now has to stop, it's not even funny anymore. Every figure line now, some US stores get exclusive figures that are impossible for whole Europe to get. And it's not some re release or legend anymore where you could say "ah I can live without that", it's more and more brand new first time in line wrestlers that people desperately want. It's especially ridiculous when it's the hottest UK wrestler in the world and you can't get it in freaking UK. It even goes so far that US gets whole exclusive figure lines now with the NXT 4 set, also with brand new wrestlers. That's just insane.
And don't come up with this Zack Ryder bullcrap excuse that every store can just get them and sell them if they want. I think NXT 4 and freaking Pete Dunne are the ultimate proof that it just doesn't work like that. Otherwise, some stores at least, would sell the hottest wanted figures in the world right now. But they aren't. So spare me this nonsense.
To be a bit more online shop (and rsc) friendly, I have to say I don't mind online exclusives too much, cause you can at least import them for the normal price (plus delivery and duty costs but at least no eBay price bs) and they appear more often at other online Shops or private sellers with more normal prices.
But in general, exclusives get out of control at the moment and it has to stop.

We have too many of these topics as it is. It literally is the same complaint over and over again and all anyone has talked about in any thread for like two weeks. I for one am over it.

It’s not going to stop so you should probably stop collecting.

This has been discussed ad nauseam. It is what it is. But how have they gotten out of control? We’re getting less exclusives now more than ever.

I agree. I think the Pete Dunne exclusive wouldn’t be bad except for the fact that it’s so limited. It doesn’t help that Target stocks like garbage in my area. It’s been a month since they’ve gotten anything new. Scalpers don’t add any relief to it either.

There are people out there that can’t find shelter or food. People losing family members everyday. You can’t find a Pete Dunne figure. It gets worse pal.

Yes, exclusives are just a horrendous idea, and come across as big " you" to us international buyers. I don't care what anybody says, there is simply no justification for it. And until Mattel finally see sense and stop this ridiculous practise, I will continue to complain.

Agreed 💯 Just look at what happened with the tornado in Alabama on Sunday....those poor souls aren’t even complaining this much....If not finding some little wrestling figure is your biggest worry then you have nothing to seriously worry about!!!

While I do think Dunne should have been some sort of shared exclusive with both a US and UK outlet. (Maybe Amazon/Amazon UK?) Mattel not shipping products to stores that aren’t ordering it. And we read on here all the time people can’t find WWE figures in the UK so if the UK stores don’t want to order/carry WWE figures in general why would they ask Mattel for an exclusive?
US exclusives aren’t going anywhere because the retailers are Mattel’s customers and if they ask Mattel for an exclusive they will get it. Exclusives are a way for stores to generate more foot traffic in their stores. More foot traffic means a chance for more sales. Especially with stores like WalMart or Target because even if you don’t find the exclusive you went there for may by something else there that you would otherwise buy at another store like groceries, pet food, cleaning supplies, automotive, etc. Basically anything so you don’t have to go to a grocery store or any other stop.

I believe the OP is being overly dramatic about things "being out of control" and raising his first world problems. But I equally find counter-arguments like these to be non-productive. 38 million people die annually of HIV; severe droughts in Africa leads to mass starvation, war in the middle east, your American president - there's so much crap going on in the world - we all know that. But to be fair, it's a toy forum, he's talking about toys, and he's talking about Mattel exclusives in the Mattel forum...so get off your high horses about tornados, hurricanes, and mudslides. There's a ton of other forums/websites dedicated to talking about what's happening in the real world. Hell we even have a Lounge forum for that very reason.

And relax...

no other way to view it--the recent exclusive rollout seems like a fail when all the figures are $100+ on the secondary mkt
and also: why arent there any amazon exclusives? amazon should have tons of them why isn't ringside pumping out more exclusives? don't see why they couldn't do simple repaints of hot characters why arent there other online toy retailer exclusives?
if mattel wwe sales were hurting i can appreciate trying new tactics, but distribution has always been garbage why did bill think adding 1 per case store exclusives to the mix would do anything but cause aggravation and alienation of loyal customers?

If you are not happy then stop buying figures en masse in protest. Maybe they will get the message then.

What the has that to do with our hobby or this topic? Sorry but what a dumb thing to say. It’s not going to stop so you should probably stop collecting. This too. "Just stop collecting then" Great advise, are you living your life like that in general? Absofrigginlutely... it really annoys me when people get on their high horses about this kind of stuff. I mean, EVERYONE KNOWS there are are real world problems out there and in comparison, not finding a figure or two is no problem at all... it really doesn't need to be said. This is a TOY FORUM though... and on a toy forum, people have every right to complain about and discuss all things to do with (*shock*) toys. And relax... Thank you. I came back recently to collecting after many years of pausing, so I didn't knew that it was such dead discussed topic, I'm sorry for that then, but even I, just a few weeks into this hobby again, as European collector instantly noticed how bad it is with all the exclusive stuff. So that alone shows perfectly what a big problem this really is. And yes, I know, most of you are probably American collector and because of that probably even think "it's not that bad, what is he talking about?". Because you just pay a cup of coffee regularly for figures, no matter if new or old and at best you have to drive a few cities wide to get exclusives. But for European collector which have a average price tag of 30 bucks per figure plus zero exclusives, this is really annoying. (And I'm even willing to pay a bit more, but not in the hundreds)

If you are not happy then stop buying figures en masse in protest. Maybe they will get the message then. I've actually seen quite a few people say it's become too much and they are just going to stop collecting (...some even say they are going to sell their whole WWE/Mattel collections too). Surely Mattel can't be happy about this though - and that they're actually turning loyal customers away? People/collectors WANT TO BUY the figures, yet can't as it has become too difficult to find certain ones. Meanwhile, these figures are going for crazy amounts on the secondary market... whatever way you look at it, it doesn't seem like a good business move. And relax... (again)

Guys, OP is being melodramatic, but I am with him.
Some of your replies are terrible. Yes, there are disasters in the world and other people suffering, but this is a wrestling figure forum. It's not Reddit. It's not Facebook. It's not Instagram. Yes, this has been discussed ad nauseam, but his complaints are valid. If US stores want these exclusive figures, they should be made available to the foreign collectors as well through some other means. I don't know that that is, it'd need to be locked to US collectors to keep the US retailers happy.

I do feel sorry for UK collectors who don't have the same access to Pete Dunne (at least yet) but I also think it's way too early to act like this thing is a massive failure for all collectors considering it just started within the past month. The price for Backlund is already barely above retail on the secondary market already so we can assume Sherri will be the same. Dunne might still be rare but I'd imagine way more people want him than they want Backlund or Sherri.
