Bill replied to someone’s concern about exclusives on IG. He said I found a Bob Backlund at Walmart near the toy show I’m doing. So since Bill found one then that means it’s alright guys (sarcasm if you can’t tell). There’s no use complaining especially to him because he’s not listening/doesn’t care. Since day one Mattel/Stores have had issues with distribution (legends line!!! The best line of all time died because of poor distribution). It’s not going to change. And let’s face it the head designer is just not fan friendly as previous lead designers (the goat Jeremy). Don’t give in and pay ridiculous prices. If no one pays the crazy amount scalpers want, they will be forced to lower their prices. If the figure is slightly over retail go ahead, snatch it up, but don’t break the bank fellas. There is no use complaining to a designer, he cannot do anything. If, and its a big if, there are complaints, they should go to Target and Walmart, and not Mattel, especially not the designer lol

BILL IS IN CHARGE OF DESIGN. NOT DISTRIBUTION.
He chooses who goes into what series and what they look like. Are you all new to this line of collecting? Do you know who Bill is, or just know his name is associated with Mattel?

the thing is there was a lot of American collectors moaning when Tyler Bate wasn't going to be in the states but this happens in the UK constantly. I think store exclusives aren't the biggest issues but these figures are technically country exclusives. It's such a catch 22 because the stores don't get the figures we want because some of the bigger names are exclusive but then why should they supply them when they're not guaranteed money so in the end no one wins. And also the UK miss a fair few of the good figures from certain series so it's not like we're guaranteed all of Elite 66 for example. It's not very good.

I guess some people fail to realize what the term 'exclusive' means. If a figure is such a big deal to you, join a forum like this one, and make some friends in the US that would be willing to go find one for you and ship it over to you.

Imagine thinking that a product designer was in charge of or responsible for sales and distribution. That'd be like thinking that a manufacturer was responsible for a separate entity's product assortment.

I don't remember a single person moaning about that Tyler Bate figure potentially being a UK exclusive. Out of curiosity, I went and found the thread where we first found out about this fig from a UK retailer and not a single person cared about that possibility. forum.wrestlingfigs.com/thread/344999/tyler-bate-figure-november

It won’t end. Mattel dgaf as long as they are getting money. I really think the exclusives should be cases appropriately within the stores. I’m not saying a case of all Pete Dunne or a case of all Sherri. Just maybe four or so to a box. Especially at these stores with little toy space.
Idk about the Walmart’s in anyone else’s area but mine has a bigger section plus the shippers. Target doesn’t have a lot of room. Maybe 5 pegs. Walgreens is a joke all together lol.
Wouldn’t it be neat to have all future exclusives be shared? Like Walgreens and Target could share? Walgreens are more accessible from what I gathered from friends. Targets are spread out. So if your Target lacks, if your Walgreens lacks, you could at least have the alternative to try....just a theory. Apparently some of you like having hard to get figures to boost your egos.

However you contradict yourself. He is the head designer and he picks and chooses which figures go where and what sets they are in. . So people are right to voice their concern over certain figures going in certain lineups or certain stores, because he chooses that aspect. If you Mattel apologists can’t understand that I don’t know what else to say. I agree people shouldn’t waste their breath complaining to him and this horse has been beaten to death. He knows there’s been distribution issues for years. So in turn he should know there’ll be backlash against this decision. Some guy in a distribution warehouse isn’t determining which figures go where and that’s why bill takes the heat.

I'm pretty sure he said on that notsam pod that the exclusives idea was an idea Mattel brought to the retailers in order to help move the normal Elite waves. So it sounds like he was a big part of that decision making process to end the exclusive Flashback waves and start going this route. And yes, he's obviously the one picking the variants and the exclusives in each wave. So he decided Pete Dunne wouldn't be in every wave. Also, Bill has literally told people on Twitter to let him know about distribution problems. Even if he's not listening, or just on the design side, he's still asking for the information.

YES IT IS! They can go digital, which is what they should be doing, its 2019! Online is the way to go not retail, RETAIL IS DEAD! Retail is far from dead. Having 2-4,000 stores within the US is far from being “dead”. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about and just come off butthurt. What is it 2000? 3000? 4000 lol...dont just throw a number out there. Whats the status of those stores? you think business is booming do you? What a vague response to simply say there are 2-4k stores within the US. How many was there 10 years ago? i think you will find retail is going the same way as the dinosaurs if trends continue the way they are going.

Wal-Mart operates upwards of 5,000. 'Retail', as a blanket term, accounts for upwards of almost 4 million establishments in the US.

One thing's for sure, when it comes to this community, this whole situation has brought out the bungholes on both sides of the fence.
Conversely, it's also shown who the more than decent members are.

It’s going to stop if it doesn’t make money, not because some kids on the internet complains about it. Those of us in the UK live on a small island that doesn’t make it feasible for our stores to bother buying every line and exclusive. Hardcore collectors alone do not keep the line going - particularly when we’ve spent the last few years waiting for sales and discount stores. Being bratty and entitled and melodramatic is not going to make the figures appear, unless you catch the ear of the right person at Smyths/Argos/wherever who has the power to buy these toys in enough bulk to sell them as cheaply as you want them for. Until then, it’s an expensive hobby.
This sucks for those of us who did buy everything from Smyths at full price, but unfortunately there weren’t enough of us in the UK.

These store exclusives have really brought out the worst in people, not just here on this board, but all over the groups on the internet. It's kinda gross.
Do I want a Dunne? Sure, I'd buy one if I found it. I'm not going to lose sleep over it though. I'm long past the days of driving store to store, city to city just looking for the latest store exclusive. It's not worth it (to me, but to each their own). The scalpers near me get the cases before they even hit the floor anymore anyway, so there's really no point in wasting gas and time on my end.
It is what it is. Collecting wrestling figures is an expensive hobby these days and you've gotta put in the work if you want the goods. I just don't have it in me anymore. I buy whatever I find at retail if the price is right or if I find a good deal on something on Amazon or a secondhand store.
I've gone back to collecting LJN's recently. That's been more fun for me. Would love to land a Sherri and/or a Dunne at some point, but the odds of that with being a new parent and my job probably aren't in my favor. Happy hunting to all, and to all CHILL OUT! :-)

I can understand If its the only way to get new names out there in figure form but the main problem doesnt lie with the fact that they're 1 a case. The problem is that they're not stocked to begin with. The OPPORTUNITY to find them is not there. So I agree and disagree with Ryder in his view. I only get ONE day to go on toy runs every 2 weeks and that's on payday. I get the car and my 2 kids on that day to get my pay and go on a toy run. So while the hunt may be fun for some, it might just be impossible for some.

Granted you don’t complain about it or blame Mattel, but obviously with having a family, certain things get put on the back burner. Some people don’t see that and believe everything should go the way they want it to 100% of the time. That’s just not how life works.

Well, the kids WERE a choice but having to share 1 car with the mrs is kinda no choice. Dont get me wrong, It SUCKS not having to find ANY new figs (I'm a Authors mark and I JUST found Rezar @ Target. Sadly, no Akam) but I just know of all else fails, I can get them for half off somewhere down the line at flea markets, collectible shows, or BF sales.
