cultaholic.com/news/nxt-champion-tommaso-ciampa-having-neck-surgery-out-of-action-indefinitely/?fbclid=IwAR0_ul8lxrYoBCFCS15Y5m1jeLAzPWv2KiPhquyT-t12rSZOQPH76bIVoOEMeltzer notes in his report (about 10 minutes into the audio at the above link) that it was known that Ciampa would be out following WrestleMania weekend and that he would try to work through to that point. However, Meltzer speculates that the situation with Ciampa’s neck over the past week must have deteriorated to the point where surgery could no longer be delayed. Stories have emerged over the previous week that Ciampa had been pulled from a handful of outside bookings due to injury reasons. Meltzer isn’t sure the specific nature of Ciampa’s injury, but notes that depending on the procedure, recovery time could take between six to 14 months. As for TakeOver: New York and the Championship, it remains to be seen what new direction NXT will be forced to go into. -------------------

NO!!!!
This is a really terrible time for him to get injured. Just as he was getting promoted to the main roster, and the reunion of #DIY. Was super excited, but this takes a lot out. Really feel bad for Ciampa. I wish him a speedy recovery, and an impactful return. Truly one of the best stars in the entire company.
I also really wonder how this affects the plans for Johnny Gargano. Obviously his recent tweener turn was heavily orchestrated by Ciampa, and it seemed like the two were reforming #DIY on a permanent basis on the main roster (I can't comment on NXT because I don't read spoilers).

Too bad indeed. One of the rare true heels around. Being 33, I wonder how much this effects him. If it's a full 14-months I wonder if how much steam he could lose.

FUUUU FUUUUUUUU FUUUUUUUUUU FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU F***************************************CK
This has to be the most devastating thing for Ciampa...
- NXT Champion - Red hot heel - At the climax of his long term feud with Johnny - Main Roster Call Up - The peak of his career so far
All ripped away right before Takeover & WrestleMania, as well as possibly missing the next WrestleMania... It absolutely sucks but at least they pulled the trigger and didn't risk him getting further injured. Really hope this doesn't majorly affect his in ring future, him retiring so early would be a huge loss.
As for the NXT Title, i could see them replacing Ciampa with Adam Cole, and finally giving him the Title. It'll be unlikely, but what i'd like to see is Kassius Ohno 'returning' with a stronger attitude and renewed push, finally getting the NXT Title shot and win he should have got back in 2017.

Adam Cole is the easy choice. They've clearly hinted at UE gaining all the gold in NXT by the end of the year (I assume).

Ciampa was scheduled to do a meet and greet and serve as a guest referee at my local indie's (where he came up) big 'WrestleMania-esque' event at the end of this month, and was just pulled (somewhat inexplicably) and replaced with War Beard Hanson (another alum). Guess this explains why. That sucks.

That's incredibly unfortunate. I think DIY had a pretty high ceiling as a tag act on the main roster to get them going. Hopefully it's more of a 6 month than 14 month deal for him.
This probably leaves Gargano in a bad spot unless they just drop him back down and let him be NXT Champion for the next 6 months or whatever. There isn't a ton of room in the main roster mid card right now to give him anything substantial as a single imo but maybe that's a landscape that would change post Mania.
I'd say Cole vs Gargano is the way to go for Takeover. Do Riddle vs Dream for the NA Title. Both seem pretty easy to setup with editing and an extra couple of promos.

It’s sucks he is hurt again. But he was out a long time with his last injury and when he came back his career skyrocketed! When he gets back from this injury he is going to dominate.

Ugh. So unfortunate. I really felt like Takeover was going to be the culmination of a great Ciampa/Gargano story.

Yikes! That sucks!
I figured it was gonna be another knee injury, but a neck one?? That isn't good at all.

Seems like every time this story with him and Gargano is about to take the next turn, he gets hurt. It's a damn shame. If the spoilers are true, they could write this into the story and pick up when he eventually returns.

Horrible luck, he's been one of the best performers in the business recently.
If he's able to return at full strength the culmination of the story with Gargano on the main roster could be magical, hopefully we get to see it.
As for Takeover, time for Adam Cole to take the reigns in my opinion.

I can’t imagine having a surgically repaired neck and consider still wrestling. especially with the work rate and bumps these younger nxt guys will take.
but Bryan seems to be doing fine...so who cares what I think. haha

So after 2 years of build up, the epic conclusion to the Gargano-Ciampa story is... Nothing. Sometimes, wrestling really can suck. Hope he comes back soon though, nothing that involves the neck is any fun.

Turns on Gargano and breaks out on his own, needs surgery. Gets introduced on the main roster, needs surgery. Seems to be a pattern: every break he gets he needs time off, a huge peeve of Vinnie Mac.
Terrible news though. Hope the best for him. Ship has sailed in being a major player on the main roster, I fear.

Obviously his health is most important but this is really hard to swallow.
