If Paul Heyman and a group of supporters ran an ECW Hall of Fame of sorts, with a small Museum somewhere in Philadelphia who would be great candidates for the inaugural class?
I have mixed emotions about the good and bad that ECW has done for and to the wrestling profession, but I still enjoy watching ECW content now and again and love most of its roster to the day I day. I remember watching ECW One Night Stand on DVD and thinking this was one of the greatest damned things I've ever seen. Still love it and think it's mostly okay as a thing for just us die hard fans. Anyways, Suggest names, give reasons why, talk about who would give great speeches and how awesome it would be to have an ECW Museum/Hall of Fame to actually visit. I would have suggested Paul buy the 2300 Arena and make it into the museum, but I still enjoy seeing wrestling cards emanating from the venue.
Here's my suggestions for an inaugural class.
#1: Terry Funk: Arguably a guy good enough he have hung his hat on his career after just ten years, then twenty, then thirty. That on top of his importance to building up the locker room makes him a first ballot Hall of Fame candidate in any Hall of Fame, so ECW simply couldn't have theirs without a founding father of the style and such a nurturer of its talent.
#2: The Original Sheik: As true a legend as any and the Equivalent of Gorgeous Gorge for the wild and wooly wrestling style. An originator of the style on top of being training two of the company's biggest stars ever.
#3: Dusty Rhodes: NOW BEFORE YOU GET UPSET, here me out. Paul Heyman discusses meeting and learning a great deal from Dusty during his career, and I feel that we could all enjoy and appreciate Paul giving a touching tribute to Dusty's influence on him. Also for the fans of AEW, there would be the possibility of Cody wanting to accept the award and give a speech and maybe that could lead to something positive? If nothing else, a touching tribute because as savage as ECW fans are, we all love pro wrestling and can appreciate giving back.
4: Taz: Someone who started with Eastern Championship Wrestling and gave us some of the best matches of the company's history. Also a living person who is relatively well spoken so he could tell some interesting stories in his speech.
Possibility/Honorable Mention: Paul Heyman inducted by popular vote of the former talent?
Name whoever you want, crap on my suggestions, maybe give actual reasons, share favorite ECW memories, tell us about the time you made your girlfriend and your best friend roleplay as Tommy Dreamer, Beulah Mcgillicutty, and Raven and ended up conceiving your first born, GO CRAZY.
