I was thinking about this on the way home from work today and the earliest thing I can remember is the Wrestlemania III contract signing when President Tunney referred to Andre as "Mr. Roussimoff". I was so confused at the use of his real last time, especially since I didnt know it.

I believe it was the Duggan/Sheik NJ turnpike incident. I remember thinking ''I thought these two hated each other!''.

I don't recall a specific instance.
Me and my older brother used to wrestle each other all the time. Best I can explain it is that we worked out quick how to "script" it and not kill each other. Sort of a natural assumption that there was no way these guys were doing what they were doing without "faking" it to some degree.
I've been watching wrestling since I can remember and I've assumed it was scripted nearly equally as long. The screwjob probably hammered it home for me as I was a huge Bret Hart mark and was foolishly anti WCW. To see Bret write the letters and then actually show up down south broke my heart.

I think it was the Sheik/Duggan news story too is when I first realized that good guys and bad guys were actually friends in the wrestling business.
Though over time I forgot all about that, and the next time that kayfabe was broke for me was when HBK and Triple H showed the MSG Kliq hug on Raw the night after Badd Blood 97.

Been thinking about this since I read the OP and it had to be the Curtain Call.
I can't begin to guess what it would've been otherwise, as I was so young I never realized times when Kayfabe had been broken.

Weird the Duggan/Sheik is mentioned so much when it apparently happened after the Andre press conference. I would have assumed that more people would have paid attention to the PC and not read a news paper lol...Then again it was a few years after WM3 when I actually saw the PC with Andre so maybe it didnt stand out as much as I thought.

Vince McMahon's death storyline being cut because of the Benoit incident.
I was only 9 at the time and had been watching wrestling for 6 months at that point, i was so confused when one week McMahon was blown up, then he was standing in the ring, alive & explaining what happened.
No one had to tell me, i sort of just figured it out. Though it completely changed my perception of wrestling, it didn't change how much i still loved it.

The intro to the tape says it was two wrestlers from WrestleMania. Does anyone know for sure? I always thought Hercules and Billy Jack Haynes considering they worked together but on the close up of the VHS box it's hard to tell with the mask covering all but their eyes.

I believe the year was 1995. I was in Orlando for a huge family vacation. We stayed at a Residence Inn, and my Brother noticed Johnny B. Bad walking around. Then it happens. I run into the Nature Boy, Ric Flair!! We chatted a bit. I asked him where Hogan was, and he said "the big stars stay at the Disney MGM." I replied, "then what the heck are you doing here??" I saw so many Stars like Harlem Heat, members of the Stud Stable, and I swore Alex Wright was Sting. He, of course, said he wasn't, but I didn't believe him till I saw him on TV. Oh, and by the way, Sensational Sherri is so beautiful in person, and to think, I despised her at the time.
While walking around the Disney MGM, someone was handing out passes to see a taping of WCW Saturday Night. Obviously, I was not going to pass that up.
Here's the part where Kayfabe was broken for me. The show starts, and everything looks much closer in person. We were in what was a small sound stage. There were a few people instructing us to cheer for the good guys and boo the bad guys. The WCW mascot, I think he was a lion or a tiger or a liger, was directing the crown on how to cheer or jeer the SuperStars.
At the time, they had separate entrances for Faces and Heels. During a match, I saw Hacksaw Jim Duggan behind the curtain of the Face entrance. He sees me, waves, and gives me the "shhhh" gesture, followed by a thumbs up. I assumed he was just watching the match like the rest of us. Then out of "no where", a Heel runs in and now we have a 2 on 1 assault in the ring. A couple of seconds later, out come Hacksaw for the save. That's when I knew this $#!+ was scripted. Duggan was waiting for his queue, and my view has been skewed ever since.

I'm infinitely jealous that you got to see a mid-90s WCW Saturday Night live. It's funny when we're kids and don't fully grasp size. I definitely would have assumed Wright was Sting out of make up too.

I remember that contract signing, lol i still have it on VHS, and I remember Tunny using Andre's real last name. I don't think that broke Kayfabe, even as a kid I figured Andre's last name wasn't "The Giant". LOL I did catch it back then and thought it was cool because I found out what his last name was. Now if Tunny called Hulk "Terry", then I could see a Kayfabe break.

I believe it was the Duggan/Sheik NJ turnpike incident. I remember thinking ''I thought these two hated each other!''. I never heard of that before. my first time really seeing it for what it was was the screw job. an older impassioned cousin informed me on the whole fiasco afterwards because I was really confused at the time. I remember feeling gutted in a really strange way. not knowing wrestling was fake - I’d essentially known that from the get go, in my house it was to be understood it was entertainment so I didn’t think I could go and try that on others - but seeing the raw bones of the backstage politics took it completely out of the fantasy world it had been for me.
