I assume not, since most of the agreements were made by word of mouth/handshake, but has Bret or anyone ever mentioned this? How interesting would it have been? I know his sister-in-law sued after the death of Owen, but that was obviously different.

He could've tried, but because he punched Vince, he could've been countersued for assault.

I guess hypothetically he could have sued for breach of contract since technically he had creative control over the last 30 days of his deal and this was not the outcome he agreed to.
But again, as was already said, if he did that he's likely getting sued for assaulting Vince McMahon.

More I think and see of this I’m really starting to wonder if this was one of the biggest works in the history or wrestling

The thing is with this situation is, that the WWE Montreal Screw Job is a lot like religion. Either you believe or you don't. So it was either very real, or it was the biggest work in the history of sports entertainment/pro wrestling.

he could’ve sued for sure. I think outside of the incident, Bret realized his brother in law and brother were still employed by the company. dragging wwe through a lawsuit would damage their jobs as well as how the wwe may treat his legacy, which he was always worried about.
i think those factors plus the assault on Vince of course that stopped any lawsuit.

I had no idea that Bret struck Vince McMahon. Plus, Bret spat on Vince. In the states, that's considered assault.

I had no idea that Bret struck Vince McMahon. What? You never seen the backstage footage? It’s not in that link above, but Vince comes staggering out of the locker room a minute or so after Bret’s wife tells Hunter what goes around comes around.

He could have sued but I believe he has said that it would have went on forever and great cost and complicated matters for him in WCW because they were already tied up in the trademark lawsuit with Vince.
Little did Bret know that with a locker room of enemies waiting for him? things would be complicated enough for him down south.
