Let's make a promise not to delve into the rumours about Macho and Stephanie.
In 2002 we saw loads of former WWF legends make their returns after spending years in WCW. Hulk, Nash and Hall coming back was considered hell freezing over after how badly they behaved toward the WWF when they jumped ship. We even got a brief full-time return of Mr Perfect that year.
My question is, if Macho had gone back, how would you have liked to see him return and who would you have put him against.
Imagine if he'd been Austin's opponent at X8 instead of Hall, for example. Or 'Taker's instead of Flair.
Where would you have put him in the first draft?

After seeing Randy appear in TNA in late 2004, I don't think he would have done well in the WWE in 2002.
From what I heard, Randy couldn't even do the top rope elbow anymore in 2004, so I doubt he would have been doing that in 2002. To be honest?? Randy should have returned in 1997, but he chose to stay with WCW for money.

Hard to say, I think it may have been too late by 2002 other than maybe a 1 year run then retirement. Feuding with Triple H makes sense as well as the Rock. Austin may have been more open to wrestling Savage at Mania 18 since he was a bigger name. It probably would have been better for him to return in late 1998/99 after he took a while off and came back to WCW a little more muscular. He proved in 1997/98 that he could put over younger guys so I could see him doing the same in the WWF. He could have feuded with many of the guys to help get them over more, the Rock, Triple H, Mick Foley, Kane, Kurt Angle. Have a year or two with the company then retire.

I’d have ripped off his return in wcw to counter the new blood in wcw on thunder 2000 - have the nwo beating down rock and Austin as they were in early 2002, and have Macho come back to even the odds.
Macho and Austin vs Hall and Nash at wmx8
Macho teams back up with Hogan when he turns face
HHH brings back HBK to face off against Macho and Hogan
Macho/HBK, Macho/HHH, and finally Macho/Hogan at the next Mania.

He was already a "free agent" in 2000, and he was asked this and he said that he would go to the WWF only if it made sense if they could make it work. From my understanding, Vince had no interest paying someone over a million dollars a year who betrayed him big time years ago. As a reminder, Macho used to make 1.3 mil/yr in WCW.
So if Macho decides to take any deal that is offered and comes in, I'm not sure what he would be doing honestly. The Rock vs. Macho would've been interesting I suppose.

I know why too!
So I grew up with Eric Young, and we were best friends as kids, and of course we still talk to this day. But back in 2005, I asked him, "Why didn't Randy stay with TNA?? He was a huge name and that was great for TNA." EY said, "Randy wanted the NWA Title, he said the only way he would stay is if he beat Jarrett, and Jarrett didn't want that, so Randy left. Randy was old and broken too, he couldn't even do his top rope elbow, and had a hard time moving, that's why he didn't show up in that six man tag until the end to do that horrible roll up on Jarrett."
So there you go! That was pretty much word for word what I was told back then about Savage.

I think physically he wasn't able to do anything at that point. He made 2 TNA appearances and didn't do anything and then left due to "health reasons".
In a perfect world if he had returned to WWE and was physically healthy and able to do everything he was used to....then yeah, feuds with Triple H, The Rock, maybe something with Hogan because of their history....every company is better when you have The Macho Man Randy Savage on your roster at his best.
Unfortunately, it didn't happen for many many many reasons. I think it had to do with Hogan, honestly. I think they had a feud and Vince saw Hogan as the bigger draw, obviously, so for as long as Hogan was on good terms with the WWE, Macho Man was black listed.
I really don't think it's just a COINCIDENCE that as soon as Hogan signs with TNA that all of a sudden we get Macho Man T-shirts, he's back in the video games, DVD's, they are mentioning him on TV, and we finally get a figure which HE HIMSELF WAS PROMOTING on behalf of WWE and Mattel!
I could be wrong, but it just seems like it had to do more with Hogan than anything else.

Nope! Savage was fine enough to work, though he moved slower. He just wanted the NWA World Title. And Jarrett said, "No" to that, and Randy left. So they had to have Monty Brown wrestle Jarrett at the PPV, and that ended up being a much better match than what Savage vs. Jarrett would have been anyhow.
If health issues came into play, it had to have been after he was gone from TNA. But I never heard anything about that from EY back then.

I also understood it that Randy cared too much about his image and that by working in TNA at his age he wouldn't look good. He was always sensitive about how he looked in the past be it his hair (going from bandanas/crown to hat), or being thought of as too old with his video blasting HHH for saying he was a dinosaur.

I think he still would've done alright, he was still shredded in 2002. He wouldn't have been able to work full-time though. He would've wrestled every few Raws/Smackdowns. He would've been a great veteran asset for guys like Kurt Angle and Edge to have worked.

I believe he would've been a perfect fit for Smackdown.
Imagine how awesome he would've looked in a Smackdown arena in his 90's attire.

I don’t think he would have had that much to give by then. Sure he still looked to be in great shape, but his style of wrestling had to have taken a toll on his body over the years.
