Hey Guys, I’m new to Elite Collecting and looking for some tips on how to best take care of the figures. Questions I have are
-Is it safe to fig-bath elites? I recently bought a Rey Mysterio WCW Elite and he had some crap on the back of a leg that I wanna get out. If not fig-bath, is there a preferred way of washing figs?
-Are there any long-term ramifications of keeping hats/rubber shirts on the figures? Like does the paint eventually start to stick or warp onto the actual figure?
-How concerned should I be about joints getting loose over time from arms or legs being posed?
Any other general maintenance tips for Elites would be appreciated for this noob!

I don’t typically submerge my figures completely. I usually spot clean with q-tips, cotton swabs. For surface spots on figures, like paint, I use Goof Off, but not liberally. I have experienced staining from Warrior’s pink tassles/knee pads and soft goods, so I pack all of those away in individual baggies. Even Andre is separate from his singlet.

The blue ring on my DDP’s tights chipped onto a title belt but since I now have him displayed with the rib tape piece over it it doesn’t matter
The real concern is cloth items leaving stains. You should wash red and black cloth clothes in cold water to remove excess dye. Nikolai Volkoff and Yokozuna are the two most infamous cases of staining as far as I remember
Edit: oh and the red shirt that came with Tito Santana, too

I've bought lots of elites loose from eBay and figured washed them all. No ramifications years after. I always leave them in very warm water for up to 3 hours with some washing up liquid and very gently scrub any marks off them.

I wash all the loose figures I get in mail with dish soap. I use the foam kind. Spray it on rub it around and rinse it off, Pat it dry and let it sit to finally air dry. Never had issues.

I wash any figure I buy from eBay because I just assume that they've been in someone's ass.

Get yourself some Isopropyl Alcohol 91%, bag of cotton balls, and a box of Q-Tips and clean the dust and funk off them too. Best way I found for removing dust and what not from mostly anything from electronics to dusty, funk covered figures. Dries quick and clean, I personally have never seen it cause damage to a figure, but I'm not scrubbing with it, just making a quick pass. As with anything, test it on a figure or an area first just in case. Most people like to live like the kid from The Sandlot, without shame:

I wash any figure I buy from eBay because I just assume that they've been in someone's ass. ESPECIALLY when buying from you. In seriousness, yes to Q Tips but I would also add baby wipes and magic erasers to that list. They worked wonders for me

If you display them loose they will get dusty, you can always airdust them off or brush off the dust with a paintbrush

Another MajorPod quote 🤦🏻♂️
Don’t “fig-bath” any figures with joints/articulation. It may result in them becoming loosey goosey. The fig bath is mainly good for LJNs for the simple fact that it’s one solid hunk of rubber.
However, you can dip just Rey’s leg in hot water and remove the “crap” with mild soap and either a toothbrush or rag.
